      Agree...win & who cares! Comparing apples & oranges is counter productive. Both CP & Leao are contributing and making their teammates better with their assists & scoring. Victory comes in many forms. I am more concerned about the defence. Hats off to Florenzie for his asists instead of trying for the wonder goal outside of the box.

      Fully agree. You don't know if the ball was even headed in, it was going across the goal. Every good forward crashes the goal and gets that ball in the net. I see no issue with it.

    If Pulisic stopped his run and the defender headed that ball out (which it looks like he would’ve) then all the Italian fans would be hating on Pulisic. As an attacker he did what he had to do to make sure the ball went in. He didnt try to take credit for it, he recognized that was all Leao

    I want to bring up an interesting point. When Pulisic played at Chelsea he was constantly earning penalty kicks in the box and getting players sent out. So many goals from won PK. He's slippery and it causes a lot of fouls. Matter of fact the only person ever fouled more in a Champions League game than Lionel Messi was Pulisic. So those red cards and PKs will keep coming.

  • @DougWeidner

    It all balances out in the end. Leao is a world class winger, one of the very best. Pulisic is a great complimentary player who has gone underappreciated until this year. Coming from Pulisic fan.

  • @maudalmusicalmachines3541

    That *was* a brilliant assist by Rafa, just as his last goal was. We never get to see a definitive angle on it, but from the backside it looks at least close enough for someone to make sure of it... not to mention that there was a defender right there crashing on the ball. Puli did the right thing. And if it were the other way around I'd say the same 😁
    But you're right, it doesn't matter. And that it was mostly a snooze fest too.

    We have to be honest if they passed the ball more on that side where Pulisic is, his numbers and contribution would be some of the best in the game.world game, ,if he dedicated himself only to wait for the ball to reach him, his legs would be as fresh as Leão , Now imagine what fresh legs would do, Pulisic is capable of taking down any defense . But he puts in his effort to cover the defense in a way that makes his contribution very important. I love Leão. I think that the two can easily be complemented with a coach who knows how to use them, Pulisic's intelligence w is above in my opinion. And Fuerza Milan ! Pa lante !

    For Pulisic, if there's a defender on the goal line, you have to try to get the ball in the net. Full stop. Nothing wrong with what he did.
    99% of the videos being shown (the Nani video etc) are of open goals. The reality is, there was a defender waiting to make a goal line clearance....you had to make an effort to get the ball in the back of the net. Like Pulisic did.
    This is not like those 1000s of memes out there (Nani/CR). The defender in position on the goal line makes it different. Not a "stolen" goal

  • @mattmexor2882
    @mattmexor2882 Před 2 měsíci +2

    Interestingly, just a few weeks ago Vlahovic poached a goal from Mckennie for Juventus in almost exactly the same way. And almost no one called it McKennie's goal. I don't remember loud claims that Vlahovic "stole" the goal. And there wasn't a big discussion afterwards. There was a note of it and then life went on. It was just that's the way it goes.
    It goes to show a few things. 1) People's viewpoints are informed by the primacy of the player on the team. 2) People do not consider Pulisic a primary player for Milan. I understand that Leao is a primary player like Vlahovic. But if Gnabry had poached a goal from Sane it would be like the situation of McKennie and Vlahovic, not like this Pulisic and Leao situation has turned out to be.

  • @mattkelly7246

    Here's a thought. Leao's greatness and ability to create and Pioli's tactical shortcomings are interconnected. Walk with me, Kush (by the way, I love your videos). Listen, they are 3rd in the table, could end up 2nd if Juventus can't pull it together. Yet, their TEAM performances (example this game) are very much mid. It's clear that attacking through the middle is not a thing. How could it be when they s-l-o-w-l-y work the ball up to the center line, allowing the other team to set up their defense. From there, the internal players (RLC, Reindjers, Giroud) have limited space to operate. So, the ball gets recycled from side to side until either Leao or Pulisic does something brilliant (by the way, I admit I'm a bandwagon Pulisic fan). So as awful as it is to watch, relying on Leao to do something incredible seems to work. His (and to a lesser degree Pulisic's) creative ability reinforces Pioli's 'tactics', which seems to be - retain possession, pass that ball around the backline until a winger is successful 1v1, and hope it works out, which often it does! Oh and I think Theo deserved a call out. He lost his mark, which resulted in a goal.

    • @kylerodd2342
      @kylerodd2342 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yepp. Same style as Ancelotti. I really hate when people say Pioli doesn't have some tactical style. Tactics are fascinating to me and I've watched the progression of Pioli's tactics since he got here. I think you're 100% right though. Pioli gives Leao the freedom he needs to become the player he has. I think in an alternative universe, where Leao got stuff with a very tactically rigid coach, he would have faded into relative obscurity. If the management wants to replace Pioli they need to think hard on who could come in and compliment Leao's style in the modern era of positional, rigid tactical systems. Leao would do well with the likes of Ancelotti, Klopp, Michel from Girona, Postecoglou, Zidane, coaches like that. I really hope that if they do replace Pioli they bring in someone who doesn't put out Leao's light.

    There is no such thing as “stealing” a goal. Just natural attacking instincts you hope your attacker has in this particular situation. Pulisic is always making those runs either way. Nothing is guaranteed. From his point of view, he can’t tell if it’s going to hit the side of the net, miss completely or hit by the defender. If Pulisic did not “direct” the ball there, people would have called him out for being “lazy.” Better safe than sorry.

    Leao touched the ball a total of 26 times and had 16 passes. This is our best player with well over a half playing with a RED card. That’s not attacking Leao it’s absolutely on the Pioli tactics and the inability of our midfield to drive the ball forward. Talked about it last week and it was just as evident this game. It’s sad how many times the ball went around the back horseshoe.

  • @Neoyorchese

    I agree with you, Kush. The goal is a team effort. I also think the defender could have cleared the ball and then people would have blamed Pulisc for not doing the effort. Similar play when giroud s shot against Udinese hit the cross bar and while it looked like it was going in, Jovic made sure that was the case.

    Not a word wrong in this video and I agree 100% with everything you said. Pioli needs to go and we should build around 433 which we started the season with (and already built the squad around).
    Well balanced midfield of defensive midfielder-playmaker-physical b2b player or deep playmaker-physical b2b-playmaker both work unless the playmakers don't have any defensive capabilities. I honestly think that we already have most of that midfield: Bennacer/New - RLC/Musah/Pobega - Reijnders/New/Adli.
    As you said, Adli is not on required level to play regista, he could perhaps be one of the 8's but then others in that midfield would need to work for him.

    its the complete inability to pass the ball with any speed when we have a man advantage that leads us to looking stale and without ideas. Rafa only managed to push forward with his run for the 4th because Slava left space behind the line. We cant create that space ourselves by switching the play due to the pedestrian pace of the defence and midfield in possession. Pioli should be screaming from the touchline to sort this out, but he just stands there mute.

  • @garymathe9863
    @garymathe9863 Před 2 měsíci

    Perfect analysis for me. I just want to add is that LAST season should have been Pioli's last. Finishing 5th was completely unacceptable but he got lucky because of Juve's point deduction.
    Some fans point out that we are 3rd in Serie A and advancing in the EL. But these "achievements" don't even meet the minimum requirements. We need to be challenging for the Scudetto, not languishing ~20 points behind Inter (by the end of the season). We also should have finished 2nd in our CL group. We even crashed out of the Coppa early on. The only way this season wouldn't be a failure is if we were to win the EL, but considering Liverpool and Leverkusen are in it, our chances are about 0.

    Pioli is to blame for most of this, he is not adapting as a coach. I agree fully that there seems to be no tactical presence. I hope we sign Motta he has so much that he can bring to Milan. I think he can take our team to new heights
    Our midfield is a big concern to me. We need to bring back another Frank Kessie type midfielder. I thought Loftus Cheek would be that but he is really playing the role of an CAM which I just don’t think he is good at but not the best. Rejinders has alot more that he can give but he needs that Regista postion to be filled by someone else to be able to be fully unlocked.
    If the midfield is more threatening Leao and Pulisic will become extremely dangerous because it will force defenders to have to go 1v1 with them. Honestly I think Pulisic would be great where Loftus cheek is currently he has the skill and ability to push the ball up the field and be very dangerous and Loftus Cheek should be that regista but he needs to work on his distribution. Other than that his physicality, defensive ability, ariel threat and ability to finish outside of the box will be his greatest assets.
    We need a striker and I hope they sign either Zirkzees or Gyorkes or both of them as Zirkzees is so versatile that he can also play as a CAM player. Gyorkes is another Halland and Lewandowskiesque player. A complete CF who is just an absolute machine
    Last but not least I hope we sign a RW, we need a player that can both attack and defend at a high level and Chelsea signed Gusto who is immaculate we need another player like this and I will say it to the high heavens. We need to start scouting south american players. If we get a good RWB type player from Brazil. Give them one season if so much and watch how the pocket Dimarco every single time. We need to reach out to Cafu and Kaka and our legendary players for scouting.

    Adli is an attacker just like Baldanzi of Roma but Pioli made him play defense cause of the whole Krunic thing. He’s doing what Pioli asks him to do and not what he’s signed for. Pulisic did not steal that goal. He busted his butt to get to that position to get there to flick it in the goal. It may have been saved by the keeper and really as he’s sliding and just trying to be in the right position is he really going to think or even have time to think, “I’m going to intentionally take this goal selfishly from him and take this goal from myself.” No, he was actually being a hardworking teammate ensuring that his team would win. And then after he scored he immediately goes and congratulated his teammate. He doesn’t celebrate his own touch into the goal. Stop saying he stole it. They both had a magic moment in creating that goal.

I have no faith at all on the away game..

    I just think that Pioli is reverting to the system he had used last year and trying to make that double pivot work while still being expansive in the attacking phase rather than moving the ball down the left. I believe it isn't working and it clearly shows that in the performances, Milan might win games but they don't have any control over the game. They need replacements for the guys that left which isn't Pioli's fault, but the Pioli still hasn't shown that he can be more tactically superior to other European teams. So there are faults on the manager and management. I just think that the amount spent in the last summer put Pioli in the line of fire and the bullet was already shot by the 2-3 game of the season. It happened to Maldini and it was going to happen to Pioli if he didn't deliver.

    Teamwork is critical to being a champion. To me, that's reflected in great part in the passing and assists. Agree with kush on the CP "stolen" goal. As true professionals, Leao & CP assists more than most and make their teammates better. Who cares as long as they win. As a fan, it's my opinion that it's counter productive when you compare them.

    The last few games have proven to me what you have been saying all season, Pioli isn't the coach for the long-term at this club. The last 3 games he has either been completely outcoached or the midfield just doesn't have the qualities he "needs." Either way, a change in leadership is likely needed.

    That was a horrible game by Milan. Despite being one player up, once again it felt like they were face a full squad. Also, I didn’t see what other fans saw. When the goal was scored, the team (including Leao) congratulated Pulisic. There was a chance a defender was going to clear it where I didn’t care how the goal was scored so long as it happened. As an American and one that has supported AC Milan since I was around 12 years old, I’m embraced by the commentary and comments by other (not all) Americans trying to spin a Pulisic versus Leao narrative.

    As an American I agree that they would be mad if Rafa “stole the goal” but no one who supports AC Milan should be mad at a player guaranteeing a result. Result> Individual stats. If Rafa “steals” all of Pulisic’s goals the rest of the year I wouldn’t even care. Assists also show up on the stat sheet so I don’t see the issue anyway.

    Whoever talks about Pulisic stealing the goal probably has never been a fan long enough to know what stealing really is: Tomasson stealing the winning goal at 91' from Inzaghi against Ajax in the Champions League quarter final. The statistics says Tomasson, for all the Ac Milan fan that goal has been scored by our Pippo. That year we won the Champions therefore let's hope that this stealing goal will bring the same luck!

    Your doing a great job of balancing the bias us Americans have as a rabid fanbase of Pulisic with fair expectations and criticism of him when he doesn't perform. Don't let the amount of us Americans subscribing to your channel change your opinion and takes. Keep us honest. I will say, imagine if Pulisic didnt tap that in to allow Leao to score but that opposing player on the line was able to clear it away. It would have been terrible. He couldn't take that chance.

    The two goals we let in where from a corner and a free kick. They had close to nothing besides that, very lucky to get two goals from that. Sure we need to defend better at set pieces, but we controlled the game from start to finish, think people are a bit to hard on this performance. I doubt there would much complaining of it ended 4-0, which easily could have happened.

    McKennnie had a goal “stolen” by Vlahović (no defenders on the line for that one btw) and there wasn’t an out roar. The out roar comes from protecting Pulisic from criticism, when other players wouldn’t get the same criticism. It’s probably from the Chelsea days tbf.

    It's undeniable that Leao is statistically a great player and Milan's most talented player, however it is also undeniable that this season he is extremely frustrating to watch... He spends 99% of every game doing nothing, contributing nothing and giving zero effort, which is why even when he eventually assists or scores you still end up with a negative feeling towards the guy

    • @ciaoatutti307

      No beacouse if leao stay there someone tell him to stay there and we already know who tell him...pioli yesterday let leao on left on the sideline but then push the team for play the ball on the right side, tell me how leao can be involved if pioli tell him to stay just there and the team go on the other side, also watch leao during the games, he do at least 10/20 good cuts every single game but no one that give him a long ball, if he have a player that give him this passes he arrive easely at 20 goal per season becouse need just to stop the ball and defenders can't catch him anymore he is already 1 vs 1 with goalkeeper, in fact when bennacer came on they done 3 high passes on leao's cuts and we have been instantly dangerous, the fact is that on leao they don't serve him long passes but on pulisic they do, so I don't know what is going on with pioli and the team but they need to start to serve him more, yesterday in the last 20 minuts leao was visibly a bit frustrated and every time he do a good cut but teammates don't pass him the ball he visibly jump like "fuck why don't you give me the ball??????" But he is a nice guy and never tell this things in public so look like everything is ok but is clearly not there is something going on, leao and the team are all pioli's victims, pioli is definetly the one in fault not the team or leao

    I reckon your argument about Adli is slightly flawed for a reason. Yes, if we take into account stats we might say hes being quite crappy often, but it's hard to actually do anything playmaking style when the team is in shambles. There is no midfield and no movement in front. Games like yesterday where leao and theo get blocked, Adli had very little to move the ball forward to. In short, Adli can't show his quality when the team is not moving the way it should.

    I 100% back Pioli. I think that what he has done with the players he was given to work with was legendary.. that and all the injuries hes had to deal with and we are still 3rd in Serie A? I think hes overly criticised. If he had more quality players to use i think we would be doing amazing things.
    This said i am not against a new coach arriving, but he needs to be backed by silverware and lots of it. If not we are going to remain the same or get even worse!
    I do not see Milan winning anything with players like Adli, Musah, Bennacer, Chukuweze, Kalulu.. call them talented and still young etc thats fine but the truth is they are just not of the quality thats needed to compete in Italy let alone the Champions League.

    I agree it should be. Because when we win it’s not convincing. No one is afraid of us unlike our noisy neighbors. It almost seems like it’s individuals that win the games and not team performances. And that has to go down as bad performances by the coach. I’m not convinced that we’re going to advance in Europa. If they can score two goals, away, with ten men, then think about what they’ll do at home with 11.
    Time will tell I guess

    The probelm is we have a lot of midfielders but we dont have a specialist CAM or a specialist CDM. Its like jack of all trades, good for none. There was no need to buy musah and krunnic should have been sold in the summer and a proper CDM should have been bought to play alongside bennacer or adli or reijnders. Had we done that we would have conceded far less goals and we would have been playing in the UCL not UEFA LEAGUE and we would've given inter a run for their money in the Serie A

    It is pretty clear that Pulisic is fatigued at this point in the season. He needs REST. Why Pioli played him is beyond me as these are the games in the Cup when he should be a sub, or should have been pulled off at 55 minutes. There was a defender on the line getting ready to head the ball. Would he had got it? Who knows, but there is no guarantee that he wouldn't have headed the ball off the line as it was not a hard shot. The defender's reaction after the goal, pounding the ground suggests he thinks he would have got it. What we only know for sure is that Pulisic scored the goal. Please don't tell me what American fans would do. This narrative of 'stolen goal' in this case ignores the position of the defender.

    Wow that is harsh for Yacine. Let's just have a reality check. He's 23 years old. He's still developing. It's his first season playing in this position and the first time in this team for more than a few minutes here and there. Remember that this was not his position coming in. He is not a starter level at the moment but his iron mentality and his performances from a few matches ago (before the last 2) put him in the "promising" category. Right now the starters in midfield should be Tijjani, Ruben and Ismaël. Yacine is getting game time which is good for his development.
    Last couple he has been lacking in quality but throughout the season, he has mostly been decent and improving. Sorry but that criticism of him is unfair.

    • @footballkush
      @footballkush  Před 2 měsíci +1

      So my critique for Yacine is present day, not future, which is why I said I am not saying for tomorrow, but today he will not be a key piece to a trophy and if you want to challenge in the Europa League to win, you need to play your best. For me, Yacine doesn't fall in that category.
