as a german, i have to say that england have an immensely talented and deep squad, and i fully agree they should be considered at least co-favourites (alongside france) for the upcoming tournament. i'd probably even root for them to finally win something after we get eliminated, were it not for the extremely toxic english fanbase and their disgraceful behaviour hosting the 2020 tournament.
Germany can get to their prime again its time
@@ERICTENHAG56 the main problem is that we have too many weak positions. we have an over-abundance of great goalkeepers and midfielders, but a distinct lack of top quality defenders, especially fullbacks, and also strikers. teams like france and england have great options on almost every position, that's why i rate them higher.
If it's any consolation, we aren't all like that
Thing is you clearly did not dig very far,You did not see the racist chants of Italian fans, nor did you see that Twitter and Insta ran traces on the racial abuse England players received only to find that over 98% of it came from outside England, mostly India and the middle east.
what you saw was Englands reaction to those chants. It is all you ever see - you never see the cause, only the effect.
@@Whoami691 both the italian and the english football league have a long history of racial abuse - but i did not comment on italy because this isn't about them.
i commented on england because they were rather disgraceful hosts, repeatedly booing opponents' national anthems, abusing children on social media, and also abusing their own players racially after losing the final - and let's not forget about the whole storming of wembley stadium.
to be clear, i'm not suggesting only england have bad fans, or even that they are the worst in the world - even though they are certainly up there historically. all i'm saying is they were pretty abysmal hosts and they have a prominently arrogant and toxic fanbase. to suggest that's only a "reaction" to prior provocation is absurd. you're either dishonest or ignorant about the matter.

Well we all know who not to trust
James Tarkowski deserves a spot in the squad as well. Him and Branthwaite have one of the best defensive records in the League this season
The issue I have with giving Bellingham the Ballon d’Or, is that after scoring 17 goals in all comps by December 17th, for whatever reason, be it tactical, fatigue, whatever, he only scored 6 goals the rest of the campaign (not including MW38). I’m just not sure that what he did is worthy of a Ballon d’Or, even if England win the Euros, I think Kane is much more likely to win it than Bellingham. If Vinicius balls out at the Copa America, I could definitely see him winning it, but the amount of goals Kane scored this year may be too alluring for the voters to ignore, if England and Brazil win their tournaments
Did it occour to you that perhaps he was positioned that way deliberatly? Once people cottoned on to the fact he was lethal he became man marked, so he had a new role - open up space for Vini and rodrego.
And he did - flawlessly.
It is ironically the same reason Kane rarely scored in big games, because his role in them is to score if he can, but otherwise to open play for others to score.

You made some good calls regarding Wharton and Bowen, over Rashford and Henderson. No Chilwell, either. Maybe ol' Gareth was watching this video?
This is the same XI as mine.
However, I'm curious to see it working in a narrow 4-4-2 (so basically a 4-2-2-2). You have Bellingham up front with Kane. Chilwell plays in his preferred Wingback position to push up on the left, allowing Foden to play centrally, whilst then giving Saka room to overlap with Walker and roam as a RW.
Broadly a 4-2-2-2, but basically a 3-2-3-2 on breaks and transitions.
Surprised on the absence of Eric Dier
He is crap and slow. Why add one more crap and slow CB to an already trash defense?? He doesn’t improve the team

@@CMJames Not at all. Read the whole thread. This is the second time you're making assumptions. You infer.
Rashford should start over foden and palmer is best suited for no 10 , foden can be good backup for for them
I think there is a case for England playing 3 at the back with a pair of wing backs. While Pickford is a good goalkeeper, far better than some of the players we have had going into previous Euros, he isn't world class. And there's serious concerns over the back four. Either we're starting someone out of position, or out of form. You could essentially play all of Trippier, Walker and Arnold. It would arguably suit Mitchell a bit more playing LWB. The most obvious down side here is you would have to sacrifice someone from either midfield or further forward. But given England's potential for defensive fragility, I think there's a non-zero chance of Southgate resorting to it in the more difficult games.
I agree, I don't see any way you're going to play Arnold without having Walker behind him. It would be a way to get Palmer in as an inside forward at the expense of Saka, with AA providing the width. It'd be a big system change though and Southgate loves Saka so I can't see it happening.
No one can stop you from DREAMING! And if you are going to dream, dream BIG! And you certainly are dreaming BIG!
Do you have any plans for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Alfie?
Wirtz has been the best number 10 in Europe this season by almost all metrics.
This Bellingham pr is actually ridiculous considering he's scored most of his goals this season playing at no 9 for Madrid. English + Madrid hype is really smth else

Bellingham can do things the others never will. Multi-functionality is just as valuable highly technical.
@@Big_flizz32still not better than wirtz
@@deron19 better is subjective. You’ll say he’s more technically gifted, I’d say Bellingham can play way more positions, is a better finisher, athleticism is not even up for debate and Jude’s maturity and mentality is second to none in the world of sport. @@Big_flizz32chance creation? Fodens got 2x his numbers. Wirtz aswell
Henderson dropped. Wharton IN
I mostly agree with your XI, although I'm not sure about left back but then again there's no obvious solution. But I wouldn't play Gallagher in midfield, nor would I Mainoo or Wharton. I would put TAA without a doubt. He would create a great duo of midfielders with Rice, very complementary. I think he's the best solution.
But the amount of great players England have at every position except center back, left back and goalkeeper is astonishing. I don't support England as I'm french, but I must say you guys have quite the squad, and I think you're the number 1 favourite ahead of Portugal and we are 3rd.
It's a shame for Maddison and Sterling. They're fantastic players, but there's so much competition in advanced midfield and wingers, it's really difficult to choose. Palmer had a sensational season and was arguably among the top5 players in EPL this season, and yet he won't start. Though I wouldn't be shocked if he started instead of Saka, he's been better recently. But a manager has to keep stability.
Something that could be done to solve where Foden plays, is to do a Busquets-Xavi-Iniesta, and have Xavi be more advanced than Busquets (Bellingham and Rice), with Iniesta a bit more advanced (Foden). Who plays on the left then? Could be Grealish, could be Bowen, but Rashford just does not have the confidence needed right now to be starting games. Bowen definitely would be a nice sub for Saka, keep each other fresh, while Bowen can be an impact sub. Just my thoughts
Gordon has been fantastic all season for newcastle and honestly believe he should start on the left. Obviouly he is not better than foden but surely familiarity in the position makes sense. 21 g/a and 6 should have been 7 penalties won gets close to fodens stats.
Foden has been awful for England he’s never played well for the national team, he’s good for City but awful for England
love you mate. sometimes I feel in an international tournaments context, Turkey is like a smaller sample of England; we also always go to tournaments with the ''arguably the best generation of the country so far'', we also always have heated debates about who should make the squad and who should not for like a whole year before tournaments, we also always get very unexpected defeats and hold on to extremely unlikely chances to proceed etc. etc. On paper everything seems to favor us but when it comes to reality it's always ''oh to get out of the group as the second team we have to draw it with Poland and France has to beat Bosnia and Hungary has to concede against the Netherlands and Germany has to fart at home ground and a meteor should hit Suriname and Lithuania has to drown under floods... and it goes on and on.'' In Euro 2024 Turkey seems the second favorite of the group after Portugal, and some even say Turkey can also beat Portugal, but I'm expecting a result similar to the one you predicted for England at the beginning of the vid and I just don't get my hopes high anymore lmao.

Not starting Palmer in a single one of these set ups is honestly criminal. Not saying he should definitely be starting but to not even mention the possible and have likes of Rashford mentioned in starting line up is an absolute howler.
The problem is Saka plays on the right, and the only other spot you could play him, as a 10, is either gonna be Bellingham or Foden, both of whom are better. Rashford only gets named due to a dearth of talent at LW, rather than because he’s a better player than Palmer currently.
@@alexrobb22 the best line up would be Rice and Bellingham as the 6/8's, Foden on left, Saka on right and Palmer at 10. But Gordon playing much better than Rashford. Palmer may not be better than Foden or Bellingham but he's having a far better individual season if in form is of any consideration. Just no way you can leave Palmer out after the season he's had and offering somethings different to the others.
Palmer never tracks back on a team which is poor defensively 🤣
Palmer is a fantastic player, it's just that he happens to be around at the same time as Bellingham and Foden. I still can't get my head around the fact that Paolo di Canio never played for Italy, not even once, yet was one of, if not the best, players in the Premier League back then. But he was up against Baggio, Totti and several others. Similar story for Palmer. He can be an amazing impact sub though if the others aren't doing it.
Alfie hates Chelsea, he'll never give Palmer proper credit 😂
I think this tournament will also be similar to the last few under Southgate..
Clear the grp stages comfortably, get lucky with a weaker team in the quarters and get eliminated in the semis vs a good team..
The problem is not the players, but Southgate.. he just can't tactically adapt to game situations.. so often we have seen us struggling against tough defences..
Southgate to England is what Solskjaer was to Man United.. a good man manager, who satisfies the bare minimum as a coach, has his favourites in his team who get picked regardless of form, and is tactically out of depth, relying on counter attacks and moments of individual brilliance..
And Man Utd have gotten far, far worse since OGS left, with much better successors on paper at the helm?

every day where i'm not topped by alfie finishes with me howling at the moon
as a Liverpool fan i would love too see Elliot at the euros this season as he has looks remarkable at times and offensively class
As a Liverpool fan, there are a number of English right sided forwards better than Elliot who does not have a good goal conversion record.
Not even a starter for Liverpool, and competing against the likes of Saka, Bowen and Palmer
@@pritapp788he's a midfielder....
I'd love to see Trent getting minutes first of all, this is Southgate we're dealing with, don't get your hopes up
Foden shouldn't start in my opinion. He is not a big game player, looks good due to system he plays at city . Rashford on the other hand has experience he has shown what he can do in last season. Palmer should start as a 10. Play foden when saka is tired, this solves all the problems.
I don't understand people's obsession with 4-3-3. What's wrong with 3-4-2-1 which is imo the best formation for the current england team.
Pickford in goal
Back 3 of Walker, Stones and Maguire
Attacking fullbacks: Chilwell and Trent, they're not known for defensive solidity but in attack they're brilliant.
Midfield two of Rice and Bellingham (whose natural position is an 8)
Front three of Kane, Foden and Palmer with the latter two being number 10s rather than wingers, these famctions will be placed on Chilwell and Trent.
Why doesn't that sound more exciting than 4-3-3 that can't get the best oyt of the talent available?
3241 is England's best Formation.
Pickford
Walker Stones Gomez
TAA Rice
Saka Grealish
Foden Bellingham
Kane
The less "defenders", and more technical/threating, England play, the better. Chilwell is gash. Maguire is gash.
That defensive right side of England is really world class 😂
Personally I’d invent time travel and stop Antonee Robinson declaring for the USA, but Mitchell is a good left back choice too.

Pickford
Wallker Konsa Gueye Chilwell
Stones Rice
Bellingham
Saka Foden
Kane
Nope. stones is the best CB in the team by a mile, you gotta play him as a CB. He can play at CDM with city because City have like 5 other 40+ million centre backs
toney has been shocking same with trippier
