Adam: *Is hyped to hell and back and then killed off in one episode*
The Entire Voltron Fandom: _Adam_
That's it. The whole thing was written to be such a dumpster fire simply to make this joke possible
I was in a depressive state for two days after that.
My mind went to the vine and it fits with how stupid that plotline was
I haven't gotten to Adam yet...
Wait he was hyped?

@@tonydanatop4912 Then you get something like part 3 that has shitload of wasted character potential and killing off characters only to revive them and kill them off again without developing them or doing much of anything else with them when they came back (*COUGHCOUGHavdolCOUGHCOUGH*)
I like part 3, heck Polnareff is one of my favorite Jojo characters, but that aspect will forever make it one of my least favorite parts.
Like, you don't *have* to have something planned in advance, but if you don't? Be prepared to sit down and do some *serious* work to make things satisfying, especially at the finale.
The worst part for me was the whole lion switcheroo thing. They had established that they all have a special bond with there lion, and they emphasize how especially strong Shiro’s bond is to the black lion, with him fighting Zarkon for control. Then in the blink of an eye they just erase all that, and the worst part is they don’t even change suits.
Soo true.
i actually think it was a good idea but just executed poorly. they were going off the plot for the original voltron in the 80s and actually had some good character-building for keith, lance, and allura as they were all learning how to adapt into their new positions. but then they threw it all away once that shiro clone mess started and keith went off to do ??? whatever it was i literally cannot remember. that general era of voltron is just where it all went completely downhill.
ikr. It could’ve of been better like some character development but it just got so confusing with the lions. Like shrio left so keith became the leader, but then Keith left and I don’t even remember what happens afterwards. This plot had so much wasted potential.
I was left genuinely and extremely confused but the whole "wait shiro's gone, wait shiro's back, wait shiro's a clone, wait he's not a clone, wait he's a side character" To this day I am still confused about shiro's character arc or whatever that was
Same
I never understood the whole clone thing
it was so confusing that i remember him being a robot at some point but i think that is just the clone? The lion switching and Shiro dying undying are the only two things that i still remember disliking
Wait Shiro was a clone? If I have to ask that you know something is wrong with the writing
I could be wrong, but Shiro might've been a living plot device/red herring. Hear me out. He gets abducted by the Galra with Pidge's brother and father, escapes to Earth to warn the other heroes they need to find Voltron. The other Paladins respect Shiro for one reason or the other, so he gets elected Black Lion pilot/the leader while having to work through his PTSD and amnesia.
The red herring part is that he, apparently, was supposed to die for real at the end of season 2. Thus, forcing Keith, or someone else, to step up as leader while giving Pidge more difficulty/drama in trying to find her missing family. TV Tropes has more info on the subject.
Apparently he was supposed to die at one point sooo that might explain *that* whole deal
“Coran has never dipped in quality”
So true
So basically...Coran is this show's Varrik.
The Voltron Show was a dip in Coran quality
When King Alfor tells him to leave with Allura in the final moments of Altea and all Coran replies is "It will be my honor" with tears in his eyes, that shit gave me the chills.
"Coran Coran the gorgeous man!"
I've only watched the first 2 seasons and he was my favorite character~
HOLD ON A MINUTE!
>8 Seasons
>2 year run
I am beginning to see where the problems began to manifest.
Jesus Christ, really? I guess google could confirm this easily, but that just seems so ridiculous. Aren't seasons usually done as a yearly thing? In fact, why not just have several big seasons?
You can see the problems from this plain as day in the season list. The amount of episodes per season starts to drop as you go farther in, then increases a bit for the final two.
I felt old at first cause 8 seasons but then I read this and I was just upset
And Steven universe goes through all these hiatuses
No U
As a former Voltron fan who NEVER ONCE paid attention to the show's marketing outside of release dates for the next season, I was deeply confused by the level of hate it received. Like, the last seasons weren't good, but what could have offended people so much? And then I saw the marketing. I don't think they thought it through
tumblr people took the scaps the staff left. made up their own stuff way beyond what the writers could do. then got mad the show didn't follow their version. and i feel the writers just kinda looked at what the fanbase was doing and partially wrote it into the show. Altean Lance was a popular fan AU.
Adam. yeah people took those bits the runners told em about. went nuts while waiting for new episodes.
basically they hyped themselves up so much, the show just paled in comparison.
@@ghoulchan7525 I wasn't (and have never) been on Tumblr before. I wasn't part of the Voltron fandom, so I had literally no expectations for this show when I watched it, and I still think everything past maybe season five was dogshit. It wasn't just the expectations people had, the show genuinely became really bad.
I was a fairly little kid when the show came out (like elementary) and I'm just now getting back into looking at how it was recieved by the fanbase. So much of the complaints went straight over my head because I wasn't in the fandom at the time. I thought the show was good with a forgetable last season. Honestly my biggest complaint while re-watching is Shiro should have stayed dead.
I’m not in the fandom, and plan on keeping it that way. I enjoyed the series, but bringing back Shiro as a clone was always dumb to me. And the final season wasn’t good, the finale was just dumb
Literally me
Also they never brought up the fact that Lance LITERALLY DIED. ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS DIED and they just completely ignore that?? Lance and Keith could’ve had another bonding moment talking about their near-death experiences. Honestly, every fix-it fic I’ve ever read has been better than the actual show. Lance my boy you deserved better (as did everyone else as well)
Wait WHAT??? When did Lance die??
@@chewyjuice4656 it’s so long ago now that I don’t remember too many details but it was in one of the later seasons, i think it was S6 E1? There was a mission that Hunk was leading and Lance and Allura were doing something together, aligning panels or something. Anyway there was this bolt of energy heading for Allura in the blue lion, and Lance uses the red lion to push them out of the way, so him and red get hit instead. He is dead until she leaves blue, enters red’s cockpit and uses her quintessence to revive him. It seems like such a good opportunity to talk about his self-sacrificing tendencies and how he should value his own safety more but they just… never bring it up again

"The writers were practicing audience manipulation". That's it, that's the show. ESPECIALLY Lotor's character arc. Let's not forget how the writers literally admitted that Lotor was written to be a red herring. A twist villain just for the sake of tricking the audience. Never mind the fact that he was on his way toward a compelling character redemption or at LEAST atonement like Kuvira, never mind that his character is representation for people of mixed races and people with abusive families.
Yeah, that's what made me hate Chloe's betrayal in season 3 of Miraculous, we had at least two or three episodes of her fighting with the heroes and one where she messed up and got Akumatized as Queen Bee, and what did the creator do? Eff it all up and opted to make her go back to square one and backstab everybody because Hawk Moth stoked her ego! What the actual fuck?! It could've been great to see her at least make amends for her shitty attitude before getting the Bee Miraculous (even if it was an accident during the fight against Style Queen), but nope Thomas Astruc is allergic to trying and opted to give the viewers the middle finger! That pisses me off, we didn't see a good redemption arc for Chloe's stupid ass because the creator was a lazy-ass coward!
@@ReapermaskhybridI am okay with twist villians if nesseccary like omniman or some other sort , I dislike too much unnesscary plotwist or blandness of how to create dramatic/emotional impact
@@ChimeraLotietheBunny Yeah, again, they had the ingredients to make Chloe tolerable at least but the creator said "Screw that, let's make her another dime a dozen scumbag, LOL!" The fact that the episode where he dad was Akumatized because of her showed she was at least aware she causes some of the problems in her broken home but they never let her admit she needs help, I know that's kinda true but I'm kinda sick of people having EVERY opportunity to save themselves at the earliest moment but NEVER takes it!
Yeah, I didn’t see the tweets about Adam, so when it was revealed he died, I was like, “oh so Shiro is sad one of his friends died.” I thought he was literally just a friend!
I thought they were simply coworkers until my friend pointed out their relationship. The only time they talked it looked in they were in a random cafeteria lmao.

The same thing literally happened to me, I didn't even know who Adam was, and I thought this guy was just a friend.
BUT HE WAS SHIRO'S FIANCE.
Who the hell thought it would be cool to make Lance a Farmer
Lance can be a farmer or even a janitor for all I care AS LONG AS HE'S HAPPY. He's not.
All because of the fucking stupid writers who hate him for no fault of his...
The writers😑
it's kind of a cuban stereotype. i'm not sure why they thought that was a good idea but yeehaw lmao
Lance got the short end of the stick, because everyone else's ending were good but Lance's ending is just sad kinda, because he got to have a relationship with Allura only for her to die to save all realities, he had quit being a pilot to live out the rest of his life on a farm, and even though Lance is not my favorite character, I feel sorry for him
@@fearglitchdragon7237 Yeah wasn't being a pilot like his life long dream?
I'm still mad that all Hunk was really good for was "Fat Joke Character"
We really need to be a lot more pissed about this as a collective whole, tbh
90% Of his character was comedic relief and he had one character developement episode in season 1, otherwise he had no character arc even though he was part of the main 5. I still respect that the show hadn't *entirely* forgotten that he was an engineer. Episode 1 Season 6 was a refreshing Hunk - centrick episode and I wish the show had more of those. Sadly his role in the team was often overshadowed by Pidge, who is a lot more proactive character and is supposed to be the computer person, but sometimes fills in Hunk's engineer role as well, while Hunk is pushed asside as just a comedic relief.
The show just couldn't decide if Pidge was the overall technical genious, or if Hunk was actually a character that egsists...
Exactly
He was literally my favourite-
i'm glad he got more love in season 7 (or was it season 6? i don't remember), but still..... the fatshaming.... the jokes.... he's more than that
You were NOT the only one who was bugged by the color coordination pretty much *D I S T I N T I G R A T I N G* I cry every time I have to look at Lance in the red Lion with his bright blue armor TvT
The DnD episode was my absolute favorite. I have no problem admitting after the first 3 or 4 times I skipped forward 20 or so seconds on Voltron transforms. Coran Coran the gorgeous man was my absolute favorite character and as the seasons wore on I was just happy any time he was on screen.
We need more Corans. Would they be considered “himbo” types, like, a subspecies of himbo?
The only episodes that are worthy to watch besides s1 and s2 are the filler episodes and the Pidge and Matt reunion episode
The DnD episode was on of the few episodes I managed to like after s2
Let's not forget how great Space mall was
Two good things about Voltron’s last seasons:
1. Coran
2. Pidge’s mom being a much better character than 90% of the cast.
Yes
3) Hunk got more screen time
4) The animation was somehow even better than usual
But that's about it.

*Audience: sees Shiro's S7 hair*
*Audience:* Oh, it turned white from the stress of being a paladin after such a traumatic experience and he stepped down to a role healthier for him and also Keith?
*Screenwriters:* Nah, all the color was drained when he un-died.
That's literally what I thought though, before I knew.
Leo if that’s how un-dying works then lance should’ve got a taste of shiro hair too,, Voltron writers pick a flaw
See, I took it to mean he wasn't fully human anymore. And there was some magic shit he could do. Like mentally piloting the Lion while he's doing something else, or channelling its telepporting power.
@@Aurora-313 that was probably what they were going for but this show is just so rushed that they didn't have time to even really talk about it.
@@imsotiredofthiscrap2341 and the EPs seemingly hated Shiro's guts.... can't imagine why, he was only conceptually the most interesting character in the show...
I prefer him as lead to magical anime boi Keith... yeah, Shiro had anime stuff going on with him too, but that all had justification. An evil space witch was experimenting on him for a year. Keith just went full Gary Stu
voltron writers: the lions have this really intense specific emotional bond with their paladins and the lions have waited for hundreds for these specific people to come along and will only open up to their chosen individual!!! And they spend all this time bonding with their paladins to the point that some of them start to basically act on their own to save their paladins!!
Also the voltron writers: oh yah they can just switch like nbd lmao bond what bond
I think this is better than having each one be "chosen" for a specific lion. But keeping the way they work ambiguous didn't do the show any favour.
You know what would have been even better? If there was no chosen one bullshit and instead they had to obtain the respect of the lions through their acts and choices.
That was the idea usala.
@@NeroCM come to think of it, that was actually the case with the red lion.

I genuinely fell in love with this show when I first was introduced to it. I found it at a really hard time in my life and it was the perfect escape. I loved all the characters and how they interacted and I loved the story and animation. I never really participated in the fandom because I knew how toxic it was, but I still loved the show. The ending was the most disappointing thing I have seen to date. I hate what they did to Allura and even more what they did to Lance. I hate how they hyped up Adam and then gave us nothing, and they just disregarded Shiro's PTSD. It was just a mess. But I still adore the show! Even through all the shit.
same! i honestly don’t think i would have enjoyed voltron as much had i not discovered it at such a low point in my life. as terrible as the writing may be, the characters alone are so fun to watch that it’s such an easy show to get sucked into. sorry if i derailed this lmao i just wanted to share my experience

I needed to brag a little, sorry. But the idea is interesting, so the program remains good.
temmie johnson now this I can get by :)) it’s still a pity at how such good characters and voice actors were wasted 😔 when’s the next reboot coming out?
@@cristinaestrella well, i did it with other characters, everyone has a good life. But I agree, they wasted a bit of the voice actors, but I still think it's a cool show.
I didn't understand much of the question, could I explain it? Yes, I'm pretty dumb most of the time I'm sorry
I never did understand why the show redeemed Lotor... and then immediately dumped him in the garbage.
he had so much character potential ahhh
It was like teasing a child with some candy. We thought we were gonna get and keep good Lotor until the writers yeeted it saying "Sike, it's bad."
It’s actually a common thing in a lot of shows and franchises.
Kizami from Corpse Party (a horror game) gets similarly thrown down a garbage chute, as the first game portrays him as insane but somewhat redeemable/pitiable (his family was physically and verbally abusive in response to his sociopathic behaviors-not the correct course of action whatsoever to handle a mentally ill child), then the following game shows in a bad end that he’s capable of guilt and remorse, but immediately goes “ha sike” and kills him. The games that follow turn him into a literal monster because they stopped entertaining the idea that he’d ever be anything more than a crazy murderer and pretty much ignore his redeeming qualities/backstory as if it ever existed.
There seems to be this trend of developing evil characters to make them sympathetic only to say “ha you still have to hate them” even when the development made them impossible to hate enough to actually want dead. (Lotor from Voltron, Loki from the MCU, and Theodora from Oz the Great & Powerful all being prime examples)
It basically just jerks around the audience with no actual payout. There’s no reason for it except that it’s a twist.
Yeah. It feels stupid that they hype up his pride and desire to be more Altean then suddenly they go Lol he has actually been using the remainder of the Alteans as batteries. Hell we even see in his Mother's flash backs the horror he showed when Zarcon destroyed a coloney Lotor built because it wasn't the Galra way. I was rooting for the guy as he kinda reminded me of Zuko. A Prince wanting to fix his empire. I didn't Ship him with Allura but that's just me. I feel it was wasted to just do that like alot of the plot twists in GOT's last season.
Savannah Burris bad writing. Nuff said.
If I remember correctly, one of the reasons for Voltron being so bad in later seasons was that they decided to churn out shorter seasons more frequently rather taking time to flesh out longer seasons that had more time and effort put into them.
I absolutely agree with this! I would rather had 6 13 episode seasons instead of 8 seasons but half are 6-7 episodes
Lance was my favorite character, I wish he had gotten more character development. I hated the fact that him and Allura were so rushed and they could of worked if they had put time in their relationship. And after she died, Lance became a farm boy and told her story, like seriously, he couldn't of been anything else? It really sucks because he could of had so much potential.

“And this, kids, is what we call *queerbating*”
@@satireknight sometimes, yes, but Voltron really did queerbait so
satireknight that is definitely the case sometimes, but for this specific show it definitely queerbaited. Before the last season Shiro being gay was revealed, the show runners hyped this aspect up, showed that he had a fiancé, and (basically) promised we would see that story line unfold. In the end they killed off his fiancé immediately, barely talked about it or had Shiro think about it *at all* and randomly at the end make him marry some random crew member without showing them together AT ALL. It was obviously a ploy to get their LGBT+ audience to keep viewing (I personally almost didn’t watch the last season but hoping to see Shiro’s sexuality being explored was super intriguing to me as I’m a lesbian and barely see any lgbt rep). Instead of actually developing this storyline they hyped up, they smacked a sticker over a couple of horribly rushed scenes and said THIS IS REPRESENTATION IF YOU DONT LIKE IT FUCK OFF
@@daisy9858 well then u know what to do haha
Wait, what? How?
The show had a grand total of two same-sex couples, and they were just there. No play-up. No tropes. They were treated just like any relationship.
Isn't this a good thing?
@@Monody512 im not sure if you watched the video, because it shows that the relationship between Shiro and his boyfriend was very much hyped up by the show itself, just to have the boyfriend shown in one scene and promptly killed. Yes, Shiro marries a man at the end of the show, but people were expecting more. If there is more lgbt representation in Voltron, please tell me, I never watched the series myself.
I'm surprised you have a lot to say about Voltron when the show only lasted for 2 seasons 😮😮
Why does he keep saying 8 seasons? Is there a joke I'm not getting?

D W I'm still wondering what happened to Shiro at the end of Season 2, and what Lotor Would've been like. Shame we never got to see it
I feel like the point where the show fucked up was when they killed lotor. He added a lot of salt and pepper to the show and the little we got of him as part of the coalition was super fun, plus his character arc and backstory were pretty fleshed out and his whole situation with abuse was pretty well written and all. His death also let the show overextend itself and introduce more meaningless characters that noone cared about and the story going into the shittiest direction ever
I liked the arc of Voltron and Lotor working together. It made me think of the fourth season of Avatar where they work with Fire Lord Zuko to untie the Fire Nation that got cut by Nicklelodian. What I didn't like was Lotor suddenly turning insane. Like, here is the best character with real motivations and struggles, but nope, he's just insane now.

@devsy same for me really... I Don't really get the Reason for people being upset with the prince and alura story ark and how they didn't get together.... the original Voltron kind of had the same story ark in this regard with Zarkon wanting to force her to marry him and him also not acting like a bad guy in all the episodes... I absolutely loved voltron. I spend months (and a ton of money) making a set of armor for my Pidge cosplay at comicon. I even put lights in it so it would glow.
When the group started to split up, I was bummed because I loved their genuine friendship and bonds. I started to lose interest after Zarkon died. It kind of seemed like they didn’t know where to go with the show and they were making it up as they went.
When the Adam situation happened the show was completely dead to me.
"And any time they're in a tight pinch they just pull some new spirit focusing technique out of nowhere to save the day"

The way that the writers added the idea of Shiro being gay last-minute has always kind of reminded me of J. K. Rowling’s announcement post-series that Dumbledore was gay. Don’t get me wrong- I love Harry Potter, but both were cheap ways to generate interest in a series with declining popularity. Harry Potter was over, which is always a bad sign for popularity, and in Voltron, it was to hide bad writing.

I think the problem with Lotor was that they tried too hard to make him into a Zuko - and that brilliance can never be replicated, they should have tried to make their own show (also, no show that gets bullied into making story decisions by its fans deserves any recognition)

The toxic fandom thought that she was transo because of her undercover crossdressing, when she was obviously not.

Not to mention the fact that he technically died IS NEVER BROUGHT UP AGAIN AND FROM WHAT I COULD TELL EVEN HE DIDNT REALIZE HE DIED LIKE WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK ALLURA THAT ISNT SOMETHING YOU JUST FORGET TO MENTION.
Pidge was my favorite character because I really loved her backstory. Then, for whatever strange reason, they tanked and completely forgot to use her character. When Pidge got the whole plant power thing, it felt like it was a build up to a very cool and important Pidge centered fight. But no, her powers are barely brought up again. That wasn’t even the most disappointing thing they did with her. The scene where she flew her lion to protect the Earth from the bomb, THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THE REST TO JOIN. She literally moved it by herself but because they trashed her character, they just HAD to have the rest of the team help because friendship. Maybe this is just me being mad about how they forgot about her character because her family was reunited, but I honestly wish she had more relevance. Such a sad ending to what could’ve been a great show
One of the things I got mad it at the last season, is that lance got a sad ending. When he finally got Allura he’d been chasing since episode one, she died. He gave up his dream of being a pilot so he just got be to some farmer. That really just icked me. Justice for my poor boy lance. He got done so dirty.
No mention of how the writers literally THREW OUT THE SHOW'S BIBLE after season 2? They actually had a very different plan for the series post season 2 and they scrapped it for...this. They literally sabotaged their own show no wonder it sucked.

deadass. i've read that they were worried about people losing interest in the show if it was gone for too long, so they pumped out seasons like crazy. i've always heard people claim that some people who worked on the show said that they didn't really know what direction they were going to take the show, and i've also been told that they planned for shiro to die but when they realized his merchandise was selling and he was such a popular character they decided not to kill him off which then resulted in a ton of replanning and rewriting. idk how true these claims are but god with how garbage the show has became i wouldn't be surprised.
Making 8 seasons in only *2* years was a *bad* idea! That made it so much easier for the show to jump the shark.
Shera did representation extremely well, both made by Dreamworks yet Voltron failed horribly at it
So the lions are supposed to bond with their pilots, right? That’s why their suits share the colors. *SO THEN WHY DO THEY JUST SWAP AROUND THE LIONS LIKE SOME GAME OF HOT POTATO?! IT MAKES NO GODDAMN SENSE! JUST CHANGE THE COLORS WHENEVER THEY CHANGE LIONS! THAT SHIT PISSES ME OFF!*
Them having different colors then the lions they pilot is supposed to be a homage to the original show
As was stated, it was indeed a reference to the old show, but they did not incorporate that very well into the story at all. Next the the ship discourse and Season 8 bashing, this is the most common complaint I hear from fans of the show, the vast majority of whom had never seen the original series.
And that's the thing with a reboot: it has to stand on its own, regardless of references. And if the nod to the source material doesn't work as is, it needs to be re-worked until it does or removed entirely.

Voltron without a doubt has the worst fandom in all of media. The fandom was fine for the first couple of seasons but it only went downhill from there.
Ironic, as the show dropped in quality, the fandom went down with it.

I honestly didn't care at all about Adam.
What ticked me off was how Lotor was shat upon so hard. Meanwhile, Honerva almost wipes out the entire multiverse over a temper tantrum and still gets a whole "there is still good in you, we believe in you" redemption BS.
Also, yeah the uniform thing bothered me bad. *RED LION PALADIN SHOULD WEAR RED DAMNIT.*
I didnt care about Adam either. Thematically, it wouldn't have even made sense for him to get back together with Shiro, as Shiro chose the mission over him in that flashback. I didn't see Adam as being the "rep". That was Shiro. And it was pretty weak, absolutely. Basically from the moment he was confirmed as canonically gay he became a side character that hardly interacted with the main cast. The tacked on marriage was also just...empty.
And yeah, agreed about Lotor. It seemed like they were writing a redemption arc for a while but then decided eh fuck it. Definitely a waste of what could have been one of the best characters in the whole show
Considering that the original show pulled the same pallette swap after the pilot episodes, I was happy to get two seasons before "killing off" the leader.
Then Shiro came back and put the new group dynamic on hold!
Wait, what..?
Not sure why but I feel like they pulled a J.K. Rowling when Adam was brought in. What was the point of this character anyways if they were gonna introduce him so late into the story? All that did was piss off the LGBT community (at least that’s what it sounded like back then)
Honestly, I have a different bone to pick about Adam, but I still completely respect that you don’t care, even if that IS my bone to pick- People didn’t really care about Adam, so why would they care about Shiro’s new husband? It frustrated my friends and I that they even included Adam, because they made it /seem/ like Shiro really cared about him, and that he was super significant, but barely gave him any screen time at all and killed him off immediately, and didn’t even give Shiro a moment to grieve. There’s far too many movies and shows that include the plot of “queer romance for a hot second until one of them dies,” and it hurt a lot to see them just toss this plot point aside like they did, and they twisted that blade by giving Shiro a husband at random. It just, all-in-all, didn’t sit right at all.
Ryan Reed wow seriously? Damn Klance shippers (not that all of them are bad)
Voltron definitely needed an Aaron Ehasz to get it all working together.

The core issue is literally just how they shoved 8 seasons into 2 years.
So many of the show's issues would've been avoided if the writers were given enough time.
Bruh, princess mononoke took almost that long to make, spider verse took twice as long, 1 season of invincible is taking almost that long, and kaguya took like 4 times that long to make. The writers were definitely rushed, as were the animators holy shit
