I thought you'd like a look at this very original 1956 Pontiac Star Chief. This amazing survivor has only 74,xxx original miles on the odometer. It's powered by the factory 317 V8, backed by an automatic trans. It has all original interior and even the factory Air Conditioning. You won't find too many out there like this anymore. It has a cool patina to it, that can only be built up over decades of use. If it were me, I would leave this car as it is and just have fun cruising it. I hope you find it interesting....thanks for watching!

Back when Cars deserved the title of being a car, truly a piece of art
This car brings back memories. When I was a Junior in high school,I got to use my father’s 1956 Pontiac Star Chief to take my date and another couple to our junior prom. Dad’s car had this same color com but was 4 door hardtop! The prom was in March - and it snowed! But we drove through town with all 4 windows down and the heater running full blast!! Aww, to be 16 again!!
Great to see factory AC. It was an expensive option, like $8,000.00 today, and special order. Seeing these 50s cars reminds me of, well, the 50s, growing up in Southern CA. Some families would buy a new car, ordered through a dealer, and then take the train to Detroit and pick up the car at the factory. The savings paid for a family vacation driving trip back home. Of course, one returned home via Route 66, so all of the attractions accessible were visited, including The Painted Desert and The Petrified Forest. I remember one girl sharing this expedition and recalling that her parents had purchased "Cactus Candy". We all, of course, imagined choking down thorny balls. Many years later, my wife and I (in our Peugeot 405) stopped off at the same attractions. Sure enough, Cactus Candy was for sale, but, to my disappointment, it was just jellied, flavored cubes.
My grandfather put me on his lap at 2 and a half tears old in his 56 PONTIAC STAR CHIEF AND LET ME STEER IT DOWN HIS DRIVEWAY I LOVE THAT CAR AND HE TRADED IT IN ON A 63 CATALINA THAT HE GAVE ME IN 75
I love the smell inside old cars of this era.
Oh boy I`m salivating, dreaming I`m driving such a beauty.
My dad had one he bought new. It was a 4 door hardtop. It had the inserts over rear wheel openings. A fast car with 4 speed hyrda-matic tranny. He let me take it to town sometimes.
Built the year I was born!:)
I love finding original survivors like this one. Thanks for checking it out!
Beautiful looking car. I've always liked original, unrestored, unmolested, survivor cars. The interior is very nice.
Unbelievable original! I would leave it as is and get it safe and driveable. Only '56 Pontiac I have ever seen with factory air! Super rare!
I agree completely, Pontiac has always built great cars.
Look at that Hood Ornament Light up ❤.
Gotta love any survivor, but DAMN! She don't even smoke? Sweet car.
It really is an affordable way to get into the hobby. I'd just clean it up, tune it, and drive it.
Happy Birthday! Glad you like it.
Yep, factory air, power brakes, power steering...it's definitely a nice one. That's cool that your Olds even had the power windows and seat.
Gorgeous Pontiac
I know, I was amazed about that too....I expected it to at least belch some smoke when it fired up. Thanks for taking a look at it.
Thanks for taking a look!
Nice survivormobile! And the price ain't bad either. I believe you did not mention that 1956 was the last year Pontiac put "suspenders" on them. I read that they almost put them on the '57's until the head of the Pontiac division kiboshed it just before the '57's went into production. Pontiac was in the process of shedding it's image as "an old man's car". The chrome "suspenders" that had run the length of all Pontiacs for many years only served to reinforce that image. By 1959, that "old man's car" image had been shattered with the new "wide track" look, especially with that attractive grill on the '59's.
My first car, bought used for $50 in 1973. Same colors to. Took it Canada, Mexico, and every inch of Interstate 80. No ac on mine. Had a reel to reel tape deck and Home speakers on the back seat. Wish I never sold it in 1977.
I had a 67 Pontiac Tempest, solid steel, cruisin Woodward Avenue as a teen...
Just the way I like them, all original! Such a cool car!
Much appreciated showing us the survivors!! that steering wheel, I think the lady in the middle nice, great show! CJ...
Ich hatte den 1953 Pontiac Chieftain Catalina Coupe, der mir sehr gefiel. Vor allem der beleuchtete Irokesenkopf. Aber der 56 ist auch superschön.
Cool Pontiac, I wonder what's the story on this one, was it family owned, a barn find etc. This was a pretty rare car in 56 with power steering, factory air and power brakes. Thanks for this one Jeff!
Sounds real tuff!
My grandmother has a 56 Star Chief 2door with like 45k miles, perfect condition I could have had, same color combination as this one. Bad me!
It looks like the millinum falcon and sounds like it too beautyfull awsome car inside like the cockpit of the millinum falcon thanks jeff have a Nice Day All
Nice old car!
Nice rare survivor even has factory air which has to be very rare. I had a 56 Olds last year that had factory air in it plus power seat and windows. Too bad Pontiac quit making cars.
Awesome 👍 👍 1956 Pontiac Star chief review .
Sign says AM/FM radio. I did not know they were offered in 1956. This has to be extremely rare.
Yeah, I've had some cars with a lot more "patina" too...lol. That's cool that you have a Trans Am, I'm definitely a huge fan of them.
What a beauty. I love the patina! Cars like this are contemporary witnesses of a glory car era. Restoring it would be the destruction of a piece of automobile history.
It really should be left as is. I'd just tune it up and drive it.
Beautiful car 🚗
Actually, in Corpus Christi, Tx., factory AC was HUGE, and not new for the time. Also, after- market AC units were becoming a very viable option. Driving cool was a big deal and people were willing to pay for it.
I've got a 1955 Star Chief with 12,000 original miles
I always find those cars interesting What I really like is the fins on the tail lights other than that she s a fine lady
This would be a nice one to work on ❤.
Great looking survivor. Appreciate showing sale price!!! Great price for old land yacht
I sincerely hope no one ever touches this car except for general maintenance and preservation.
Great classic motor!
Great uncle had one as pictured in an old photo. Also had a Willys truck he sold to buy this car.
Thanks for watching George!
Thanks for watching, I always appreciate your support!
The GTO was definitely awesome when it came out, but they had some cars in the 50's that were fast for their time. They had some with 300+ HP...more than the Chevy's were making at the time.
Yep, you don't see too many like this one. I'd just tune it up and drive it.
Thanks for watching!
That thing is Killer Bud!! It has less miles than my Taco!!☺
Pretty cool car!!! My uncle Eddie had a 1958 Pontiac....sadly I never got to see it :-(
In 1977, there was a 1958 Pontiac 4 door with 53k for sale, for I think less than $400 at a used car lot. It looked decent, and therefore I test drove it. It had plenty of power, but it needed shocks really bad, plus at least one other thing that I can't remember. Anyway, my dad at the time said that car would not have been worth it if they gave it to me. So I did not bite. Yet, that same car at that same price today would have been a steal! Problem was, I would have had to garage it for 40 years, and start it up and drive it around the block every month or so, as well as do all the time sensitive maintenance, for the last six POTUS's (39 to 45). The first clue to know that it was NOT a good deal was the fact it was being sold by a dealer, and a used car lot at that.
We had a ‘56 like that when I was a toddler. White with coral accents. Don’t remember the interior color.
The chrome on that car will be 10k plus to restor. I like to see cars stay the way they came my self..
i got a 54 Ford Customliner needs restored.
That's a beautiful car too!..
Nice car
MY FIRST CAR WAS A 56 PONTIAC CHEIFTIAN THAT I BOUGHT OFF OF A USED CAR LOT FOR $150.00 IN 1962 MINE WAS WHITE OVER THE WHOLE BOTTOM WITH A BLUE ROOF AND THE BLUE WAS ON THE DASH AND METAL TRIM INTERIOR IT HAD THE 316 V-8, 2 BARREL CARB SINGLE EXHAUST 215 HP. WITH THE DUAL RANGE 4 SPEED HYDROMATIC TRANS. THE COLOR COMBINATION WAS FACTORY,THE ONLY ONE I EVER SAW WITH THAT COLOR COMBINATION! THE STAR CHIEF IN THIS VIDEO HAS THE SAME WHITE AND BLUE WITH A DIFFERENT COMBINATION,, WHITE ON THE ROOF TO HELP WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING THE STAR CHEIFS MOSTLY CAME WITH.POWER OPTIONS EXCEPT FACTORY AIR CONDITIONING THOSE PONTIAC V-8,S WOULD RUN FOR EVER WITH DECENT CARE . ALMOST NEVER SAW ONE SMOKE OR USE OIL !....////
cool stuff! wanna hear a story? my grandpa and i were yard sailing together up in the mountains one day and he bought me this weird hood ornament for an old car i had no idea what it was... haha my birthday is 3/17 i mention because that's a 317 v8 and i got this star chief 1956 hood ornament light from that yardsale and i was wondering what car it went to...so i looked it up on google for a while i was searching and interestingly it turned out to be this pontiac which is really cool to me because i love pontiacs i had a 2002 pontiac v6 firebird convertible for about 11 years or so and i sold it recently i so totally regret it...but uh thanks uh for letting me share my kind of funny story here! hope you enjoyed and it's a pleasure to learn more about this interesting car i knew nothing about prior. to be honest i believe this is one of those god things he does stuff like this.
um correction though i think mine is actually from a 1956 chieftain which has a slightly different airplane hood ornament light which you can tell with the spikes that come down left and right it gets kind of smaller at the end abruptly so it looks slightly different than this car which has smooth spikes that dont change size on the metal at all.
I’ve got a ‘56 Star Chief all original but I need to replace a trim piece. Where’s a good place to look?
so cooool
You won't see too many other like that for sure
shes old enough to be my Grandma lol but good condition lol
I have a 56 Pontiac Star Chief
So did they list the paint colors on the car? I don't really see alot in that color combo maybe one on old paper ad
Do you have any updates on recent shed tours and what cars do you have for sale
my first car was a 1962 Pontiac parisienne 4 door hardtop
I'm looking for parts for my 1956 Pontiac .
Patina? where..lol. You have not seen my 80 Trans Am that sat for 20 years than, again, great video..
this '56pontiac still for sale?
Was a Catalina along with chieftain
magnificent car, hope they don`t restore it
1956 PONTIAC SHE LOOKS GOOD FOR AN OLD TIMER LAST OF ALL FIRE HER UP AND GIVE HER HE'LL I LIKE THE FINS ON THE TAIL LIGHTS
You should make a video about the van next to it.
PS how about making this car run on nitrus Jordan
GM should have kept Pontiac
Sound
Why didn't you show us the price of the car?
Factory air conditioning, but no exterior mirrors? That's a strange way to option your car.
Outside mirrors were still optional equipment in those days - Surprisingly,in those days, most buyers only ordered a driver's side mirror...still,it's strange that this car was ordered with no outside mirrors at all....
my uncle pulled a 10x50 house trailer with one 300 miles
It would be nice to have this and leave it as is just do the mechanical parts and a fresh rebuild on the engine Might but some new cars to shame at a drag race
totally, do not touch a thing, my 80 Original Trans Am runs like a new car
HOW MUCH $
Car looked like it had " chrome eyebrows " to me. I wasn't a Pontiac fan.
I was a little guy; I was picked up for Bible School in one of these.........................I made a mistake........................I was about 5 and I told Mrs Smith that I did not like the look of her car................next day she picked me up in the family Cadilac.......................My eyes popped outta my head.
Who says we do not reincarnate?
How else does a little kid from a Pennsylvania suburb of Philadelphia form such firm ideas about design if there was not some previous influence.......??.............out there I know.
I appreciate this car now but the Caddy was it in 1960.
👍❤😂😅.
>low mileage
I always thought this is a completely irrelevant question for classic cars, and as an owner of one, it really annoys me. The answer is "I don't know." in short, but people just blankly stare at you when you say that.
"Yeah, i've had this for about 3 years now. the motor is about a year old, the transmission is rebuilt. original wheels, original paint. :)"
HOW MANY MILES DOES IT HAVE ON IT????
"....you mean this motor or? almost every mechanical part has been replaced at some point in the last decade. I mean I don't know."
then they stare at you wanting some number for some reason. I don't understand what you want to hear. why does everyone ask this? I dont even know what that means and why everyone is so obsessed with what the odometer says even though it's been rolled back multiple times.
polluters engines sound like they pollute. more crushed for scrap the better
