- Doing the dragons muscles this time around.. and now its REALLY taking shape! Hard to believe I have gotten this far in just 4 videos! This just goes to show that if something at first seems too hard to do, or even intimidating, that only by taking those first few steps will you ever know if its possible. I am having so much fun with this project... I almost don't want it to end.. Like a GOOD book, know what I mean? Drop me a comment and let me know what you think? Are you as excited as me? We should start talking about final details now, being were so close!! Hope you enjoy this, and thank you so much for watching!!

I came across your dragon because I'm making a spirit doll and needed more ideas for making an armature and covering with Polymer Clay. Your films are SO interesting and informative. Thank you SO much!
Ahhhh! i get so excited when i see you have put a new part of the dragon sculpture up! it is looking AMAZING!
This is amazing… thank you for sharing your time and talent. I appreciate how thoroughly you explain and describe each step as you go, and why things are done in this fashion and order. Great video, subscribed!!
I love watching your videos!!!
I can't wait to see the finished dragon!!!
I'm Welch .... Of course I like Dragons ! Thanks great video , I'm learning a lot.
Beautiful sculpting, I love dragons!
This dragon is PUMPED up!! LOL...looking great. I can't wait til the wings and the head or HEADS (maybe) so cool that you might consider multiple heads! U my man are awesome! Thank you for sharing your amazing talent :)
the musculature is amazing. great job
Amazing!!! Great job, Tom!!!
Wow! I can't wait to see the final product! This is so amazing and i am so excited to keep watching the rest of your videos on this!
Thank you so much!!! You are the only guy I have found so far that so into this much detail!!! I really want to start sculpting. Thank you again.
I think is awesome, this Dragon is going to be the best yet. Love the fact that you want to do the 3 headed....so go for it :)
Those muscles look AMAZING! It's really looking great Tom!! Well done and thank you!
Very nicely done and it's great that you keep in mind what the muscles are used for and why they're there on the dragon.
It is coming along nicely. =) I love the idea of "spikes" on the back. I'm looking forward to the next videos.
One more thing... This is not a commissioned piece, or a business deal. Its a "fun" art project and learning experience.. If I fail, that's o.k. It seems too many artists worry about what other people think.. too much. The meaning of art has changed greatly in this competitive world which we live in today. I see art in a different way. As a form of relaxation, expression. And If this turns out weird, I will be just as happy for trying.
Good details on the sculpture!
I just started sculpting and that was great... I just wanted to point something out as far as detail is concerned. I have seen other Sculptures do and it looks amazing. They will sculpt a "Rib Cage" , "Hip Bones" on top of the armature and then attach muscle to it much like you did so that you can see a Hint of the "bone". That helped me with sculpting People. JC Cappelletti comes to mind. But you Probably have figure something out that works for you so disregard if it is something you know already. Thanks for the videos.
It's cool to see you getting so excited about this piece. Made my day. It is looking wicked. I pin all the dragon stuff on pinterest. Thanks for taking the time to share your work.
The muscles are really taking shape, looking good. Personally I think spines would look amazing,
Wow, thats awesome! And what a nice gift!! I'm sure he will love it!
Wow look at that buff dragon... never thought I would say that shit lol Fantastic for your first go at muscles!!
Great videos! Thank you so much for the help--I made my first sculpture without benefit of instruction, lol. My mermaid wasn't horrible, but she was terribly sunburned after baking and very rough. Your videos are going to be so helpful in my next iteration!!
Thank you for doing these videos. It is helpful to see some one smooth the clay out. I am still learning and want to make an animal or dragon. Awesome!
I'm glad you're enjoying this series! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it!! Good luck on whatever you make too :)
2 cool, realy amazing art!
Fantastic. wow. This is so taking shape now. I love how you defined the muscle shapes. It has added so much more life into the sculpture now. You mentioned about spines on the back. Im not to sure about that. but I would add some spines along the tail though.. I look forward to seeing the next video now
Very valuable tips experience and more thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh Mr Tom this is looking so good ;););)!!
this is awesome! i hope to see the finish work soon :)
great job!
wow dude nice work on the muscles
Oh wow this is great! I love it!
Thus the reason some hardcore dragonistas keep their designs to four-limbed creatures and not six (e.g. Dragonslayer vs. Dragonheart respectively). Nice work BTW!
I love this tutorial, I am really exited how it looks when its finished! :))))
Thank you for your videos. and for the tip of that the tape over the tinfoil will be able to bake and fire. I've got my first armature ready for tomorrow's sculpting, only I'm starting without wings
Wow!! You R O C K! It's looking really good!!!
Soooooooooooooo coooooooool I was crying while watching this video cuz it was sooo good!!
Your vids inspire me to go for it Thanks ....i will be using your techniques to make my own
+Polymer Clay Artist - Good to see the sculpting of the muscles
It looks amazing :D
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! And wow!?! All of them??! That's a lot of videos LOL Blue would make a good dragon for sure.. But I think I'll wait till the head(s) are on, so I can better read the personality of this dragon, make since?
Well yeah. Gotta have muscles. Who ever heard of a wimpy dragon? Very cool.
i am impressed with those musculus u made
I forgot to add. The back legs should be wider then the front legs. For stronger muscles and ability to push off of the ground if the wind doesn't add enough lift. So cool. For a second there I thought it reminded me of the "Dragon Booster" series!
Ahhh, so much awesomeness here! This is beginning to look bad ass tom! :D
To answer the question.. Yes, I will be doing the bottom "chest" area slightly thicker.. so its not to flat down there.. Several people have been asking, I should have said something lol
Do you really wanna know what I think? I think your are AMAZING! aaaaand these videos of yours are really helping me out with a project I am doing for my design 2 class :) Thank you!
Amazing work as always, I have just completed a 16 inch dragon and was sad that I had finished him,so I know what you mean but not wanting it to end. Many thanks for sharing, you work is awesome and you are a very talented man.
~Time to clay on~
Jinny
it looks great
Hi I stumbled upon you a while back, meaning 2 years ago. I couldn't believe how well you were doing and so little views!! It looks like you are doing well in publicity. That is amazing news. I started clay not even a year ago and I have always wanted to make sculptures like yours. However because I an not able to get a job (only 13) it would be too expensive. Anyway I really just wanted to say hi again and I wish you the best of luck with selling the latest edition to the many sculptures ~Spark
Muscles look great
You make it look easy
i cant w8 until its done im soo exited!!!!!
this is really cool finally someone who I can learn from! ive been recently getting into polymer clay and all I can find are how to make cute charms that ill never actually make myself lol
woohoo its finally here!
Hi, I'm trying to make Link from the Legend of Zelda by watching this. And I've got to say, you are amazing! I'm actually a little scared to start putting the clay on my link. Anyway, thanks so much for making this tutorial! :)
I love it. Dragon on steroids... great muscle forms..
That's awesome! Part5 pls?
At first I was going to reply with "Absolutely!" ..but then I though.. Why not? Why can't I do this?!? Its still in a proper stage for such a change.. all I would need to do is cut the clay back from the neck and add 2 more wires for 2 new necks!!! OMG, I think I'm going to try this?!?!!!!! Thanks!!!
Have you tried looking at lizards for inspiration? I can't wait to see more videos!
Most of the lift and forward propulsion of powered flight is generated on the
downstroke, primarily driven by the "pectoralis muscles" of the chest. So yep. :D
Wow this is great, coming on really good, the muscles are amazing! The only thing that I'm not too sure about is the tummy area, it looks a bit straight to me. You know how when you look at a dog or cat from the side, the chest comes down and the tummy part arches up a bit? I reckon that would look good on the dragon, I mean just a small difference between the two that's all, just to keep it from looking too straight. Don't know if you agree with that at all?But anyway, it looks amazing!
Thank you and no problem!!! And HEADS!! I am gonna do it for sure!
Thank you!
Its looking good so far. My idea is have it be a blue dragon with scales and a dark blue backbone. That would be soooooo awesome. Could you please make an oshowatt and pikachu sculpture. Have the oshowatt and pikachu together just like ash's pokemon. P.s.--- I love your sculpures. They are soooooooo good and cool. I subscribed to you and have watched all your videos. Byee.
Wow it looks skool good
To answer the question.. Yes, I will be doing the bottom "chest" area slightly thicker.. so its not to flat down there
to make the dragon more menacing, you should really angle the toes and add big knuckles and big claws
I'm glad your finding the videos helpful, best wishes to your next project! Haven't done a mermaid yet but I'm bound to do some sort of woman figure, maybe a fairy even... I have no idea how that would go lol
This looks amazing! I love dragons! Do you know what color it will be?
Thank you!! :)
I love Dragons... My horses name is Dragon Heart. He is big, white and very muscular like your Dragon. Thank you so much. I love, love, love your videos. I do animals in Artwork, mainly pastels and wanted to branch out into this kind of thing but was having trouble finding anything describing what to do. I'm wanting to do horses and Great Danes especially. You said something about a Pasta machine? Could you explain that more or did I miss it.
Wow!! What was that creepy thing at the end... some kind of totem pole!!????
It would make a awsome griffin!
Definitely pre bake... I could use ivory clay as well as black..
But I could also make 2-part epoxy claws too.. hmmmm...
i love all of your videos and i have been trying to do a dragon but its difficult for me and i was wondering if you could make a video on a easy simple small dragon?
It doesn't matter how long it takes for him to finish this dragon I'm watching this until he finishes
Nice!
I love your videos do i have to cook the white clay? Thank u Tom
Love your work!!! What kind of clay are you using?
looks really good man...if i were u i would put a spine on it but not a really big one if u know what i mean..hope this helps a bit...are u gonna do anymore detail to the belly...u dont have to just wondering
I like dragons and I like the scales part you are AWSOME! And I'm a girl and I wanna be cool and I'm 7 years old.
Looove it
Thank you!! Polymer clay, (super sculpey in this video)
Oddly and conveniently enough.. I made the stance of this dragon "sprawled out" I've always had a good since of balance with certain things, he should be just fine.. And thanks!!
Thanks! And right?! That would be so wicked.. =O
lol, thank you!!
LOL ...a belly button? Just kidding! I popped a air bubble, and forgot to smooth it over.... But I do make one or two such holes as "vents" before baking.. I don't think I ever mentioned that before though..
YAY! =D
Thanks!! I know.. its exciting even to me! =O Thanks so much!!
no,YOUR awesome :)
I really appreciate that!! Just give it a shot once I'm done, make it a little smaller if you feel its too much to do.... never hurts to try.. :D
Good question. I'm still not sure if it will be "just"the dragon, or if there will be small patches of earth under each foot... As far as a whole base for him to stand on, I'd rather not.. He's stretched out awfully long lol Something like that could be added later, so I'll have to keep it in mind.
* If I do small round disks for each foot to stand on this will also help protect the dragons claws from becoming damaged. I could always paint them a high contrasting color so it doesn't confuse
I can't explain how, but in my mind I see it just fine. Another way to look at it is I can make the the heads a little smaller... Kinda like the glass is half-full, half-empty theory.. Its just a different way of looking at things. lol
when you do the claws ...are you going to pre back them to out of black scupley then add them to the feet so they keep their shape????
will you be bulking out the lower torso and stomach area more?
No problem I thought mabye you could experiment with reds and golds and blacks to do the skales it would look cool with 3 heads if you do them
Polymer actually isn't like the clay you might be talking about. Polymer doesn't need water, or anything. It stays soft until you bake it.
Are the stabilizer pieces of clay going to be rocks or some kind of surrounding when you are finished or are you going to be removing them?
Thank you!!! Definitely something on the end of the tail, huh? Wait till you see the 3 heads... I'm gonna do this! =O
I am.. It's so fun! =Þ
