In this minecraft datapack tutorial, you will learn: how to make a datapack, how to use functions in minecraft, and useful things like how to set up pack.mcmeta. I'll use Data-pack Helper Plus/Datapack Helper plus, and Arcensoth's language mcfunction extension. These are powerful visual studio code minecraft extension(s) that will help us greatly. And VSCode is an IDE that can be used for minecraft. It's much better than notepad++ or sublime text (although there is a sublime text highlighter). The /function command is one of the best minecraft commands, and is essentially functional programming in minecraft. So, if you want to learn how to make a data pack, or datapacks, or watch a minecraft data pack tutorial/datapack tutorial for minecraft 1.16 or 1.17 (even minecraft 1.16.2, which is slightly different (minecraft 1.16.3/1.16.4 is the same)) or learn how to make a minecraft datapack, then you've come to the right place!

*Common fixes for "things not working":*
    -Make sure everything is saved!
-Namespaces and .mcfunction files *cannot* have capital letters or spaces.
-Make sure load.json and tick.json have the correct function name and namespace inside.
-Make sure everything is spelled correctly and there are no sneaky typos.
If the datapack doesn't show up in the list:
    -Check pack.mcmeta.
-Make sure your file structures are all correct (E.G. datapacks/Datapack Name/data/namespace/functions/)
    -Make sure everything is saved.
Yes, this tutorial is still up to date as of 1.19! Just change pack format to 10 for 1.19.
If you're still confused, ask in the #help channel of my discord server!
Let me know if you found this helpful!

You know there are God Tier tutorials, then there's Legitimoose. You are a class all your own and it is something awesome!

  • @thunderbear06playsstuff63

Probably the best tutorial maker person guy thing creature whatever you are iv ever seen for making Minecraft content like data packs, you certainly earned my sub lol

  • @Magiccc
    @Magiccc Před 3 lety +3

First of all: Love the content, this is heavily underrated.
Second of all, I've run into an error. The datapack refuses to load.
    I have checked:
pack.mcmeta is outside of the data folder.
all functions (load.mcfunction & tick.mcfunction) are inside of the functions folder under the namespace folder.
The namespace folder contains no capitals or spaces.
the minecraft folder contains both .json files, copied exactly from the description with changes to the namespace.
This reddit post of mine contains screencaps of the exact file system.
    www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/k4vnyz/reload_will_not_load_datapack_any_help/
Edit: Using "say" instead of "tellraw" yielded results, as well as that for some reason VSCode messed up the formatting in the json files. Starting again from scratch fixed it. Oh well :P.

Oh, well I'm glad you got that sorted out! Nice job fixing it btw! Debugging is the _real_ skill you have to learn to make datapacks ;)

I’ve got this growing appreciation to your channel, as in each video I can feel that personality of yours just seeping through the cracks. You manage to be incredibly easy to learn from, your humor’s so playful, while still being remarkably concise.
If you don’t mind me, I’m going to go ahead and share your CZcams with some of my friends who also mess with command blocks the same way I do.
