It’s the same for LTT
Can most people really not understand lloyd? i thought he sounded fine lol. I feel he speaks similarly to dennis and dennis never needed to be subtitled
Kind of insulting lol. Speaks perfectly clearly imo
I was thinking the same thing. Mid way thru the video I was like wait why does only Lloyd have subs lol
they subtitled jonathan as well at some points. It may just be so the subtles are solid as youtube's auto caption tends to be pretty bad
I had some trouble understanding him a bit at first. But I think that was because it was my first time hearing him. As I got further into the video I was able to easily understand him without the subtitles.
for non native level speakers it would be helpful since he has an uncommon accent but yes anyone with a decent understanding of english could unstand him @@extra4542
quest 3 literally support wireless ar triple monitor on mac natively right now. it would be really embarrassing is Apple’s own 3500 doller headset can’t support it.
Nobody wants that cheap toy from Zuck
Apple Vision Pro is the real product that will change the world's future
Its a nice app but the screens on the quest 3 need to get slightly better to be able to comfortably be productive, I was still amazed it worked decent on a headset that wasn’t 3500
with virtual desktop and quest 3 its surprisingly great. I keep trying to compute with it but most of the time I'm using it to watch streaming services. You really get a glimpse into where things are going though. Its wild to me that a $500 headset, a $20 piece of software and whatever computer you currently have is all you need to start experimenting. You can even make screens bigger than your physical room which is weird in passthrough where you still see the room too. Rokid is perhaps the dumbest way to do it with a 1080p floating fixed image in front of you at all times especially given its price. You might as well get a Quest3 and have all the other benefits of spatially tracked mixed reality.
@@aleksei5195 if they made a version under 1,500 probably, for now not really for most folks.
Yeah but then it would show that it does a similar thing to the Vision Pro but for a fraction of the price and the many who worship apple at any price would be upset. Ultimately no one knows what the Vision Pro will do as other than the 30 minute demo they had nobody outside of apple has used it. We will all have to wait to find out.
conspicuously subtitling lloyd's completely fine english is weird lol
for real lmao, i was looking for this comment.
Yeah me too, glad I’m not the only one feeling it was just not necessary.
So true 🤔
It's not actually for native English speakers. Sometimes foreigners can't understand people with an accent
@@AL-HDI agree. They also subtitled verbatim, so it's not like they corrected his slightly awkward sentence structures or anything either.
I love that you really analyze how using this makes Lloyd feel about using his computer. I think that's going to be so critical to how this technology is going to fare going forward. People will only want to use it if it feels okay to them. Also, I'm loving your new hair!
My dad owns a repair shop for apple devices and has at least 3 headless MacBooks as workstations. I never knew it was a thing until he showed me one. It’s a great way to save a MacBook with a broken screen and turn it into something useful again without buying an expensive replacement screen.
They're really fun to hold. I do wish tho that Apple would let users disable the "boot on any key press" feature.
guys, what is ginger guy saying? i need subtitles NOW
Why is Lloyd subtitled? He is speaking english
Yeah that makes no sense... he's speaking perfect english.
the subtitle suggest to me that people may not understand an asian person speaking english? For a company based out of Vancouver that employs a lot of asian people, this is kinda bizarre.
@@Martin_from_ScarlemI think it's more for non native English speakers because I know a few people who have difficulty understanding accents that they haven't been introduced to. Especially with a channel like this who has subscribers and followers all over the world. I do however think that it is weird as they don't typically subtitle Andy or Dennis
@@Studio19design I mean atp just caption the whole video with the inbuilt caption option, even more accessibility
@@Studio19design🙋🏻♀️
Why does he get subtitles? He is perfectly understandable
maybe for you, but he has so much "bass" on his voice to me to understand
Came here for this. Getting racist vibes from it
@@lm_dccxl4078 completely unbelievable, his pronunciation/ accent isn’t that far off from the host’s…
@@MrJanus19racist vibes???? Are we really labeling accessability features as racist now?
Said same thing. I understood everything he said and Im Puertorican.
In case no one else pointed this out yet, Xreal's (Nreal's) MacOS app does some head tracking to allow for 3 1080p-ish virtual monitors. Same drawbacks but slightly better for work. 5:20 5:23
I was thinking about that too. Though because it's a software solution, you would need a monitor to actually adjust and control it.
That feature was pretty much the main reason I went with the xreal, in fact I'm using it right now, my only gripe with it is it makes me motion sick after a while but that's just me. Also I love how much privacy you get using the 3 monitos
I use mine this way every day since last year. Absolutely love them
The drawbacks are poor spatial tracking, meaning it causes motion sickness. Because most people are unproductive while motion sick. The concept is there, I’ll give Xreal that.
There is software named immersed that gives you 3 screens at 1440p for free and then a subscription for the 4k resolution and up to 5 screens. Not used it personally though.
Great video as always. But cmon guys Lloyd does not need subtitels.... He is perfectly understandable. And I am not even an English native speaker.
What a way to express your personal opinion as something everyone need to agree with.
@@matu1181that wasnt an opinion, it was a fact. his “accent” (it’s literally almost the same as the host’s) is completely understandable
@@imobsessedwithblowoutsI agree he is perfectly understandable
@@matu1181 you tried doing something, lmao
Did the editor have hard time understanding Lloyd? I don’t get the captions only with him. I hear him fine.
I have a feeling it's for people who aren't used to hearing subtle accents (small-town or mid-west), but it would probably make more sense just to have CZcams captions for the whole video like they do on LTT.
The guy testing the glasses, Lloyd, is great and a real pleasure to watch! Open to new experiences without being fussy. genuinely trying to make the best out of the tech to offer real world feedback. great concept great execution
The idea of working in an office where I stare at my colleagues across from me with bare desks smart glasses is a dystopian nightmare I didn't need to imagine, thanks Johnathan.
Are cubicles your utopian dream?
To be fair... you could be in "immersed" mode and not see your colleagues at all 😛
Or you could be in the countryside under a tree with your doggo running around in a meeting as you hear birds chirp outside.
I think that in order to really sell this vr/ar experience, the computer environment needs to be easily switchable between the headset and a traditional monitor. Kind of realized that when watching the video!
Can barely make out what Jonathan is saying... can you please add captions for Australians?
Honestly this is facinating to me.
As someone with a visual impairment I have always been interested in these technologies because I wonder "what if I could get a much bigger screen without the encumbrance that comes with it?"
Then make it curve so that everything looks similar in perspective.
I would really love to be able to try this and see if well it would work.
Maybe I'll have to try to making one of those things some day ^^
After seeing the occlusion on the Vision Pro recently, I am really excited to see what the platform brings! I know a lot of people don't like the idea of strapping something to your face, but I think it will be a really cool device to use.
Lloyd spoke perfectly clear English, why the hell did you give him special subtitles for his speech?
PC user here. I use my Quest 3 as a monitor. I have to plug in a ghost hdmi in order for it to work. I use Virtual Desktop and it works great for gaming. I wish there was a multi monitor function instead of just switching between them.
That being said, it only works if you have VD running. So no bios editing or anything like. I have a spare TV on the side incase VD stops working or something else happens
I made a headless macbook (we called it the HalfBook) in 2013 because I was volunteering with my schools IT program. They had a bin of broken-ish parts that I could cobble together a working computer from. A "broken-ish" screen is hard to come by (they're usually just broken) so I just left it as a halfbook.
the man doesn’t need subtitles for when he speaks
I still ask myself. Why do we want to recreate Displays in a Display. Transforming the programs into actually usefully designed Ui would be way better
Atleast someone else said this. I've been thinking the same thing since last year when I saw some other youtuber showing his ar glasses and using 2 monitors inside them.
@@kalashkhator yeah, cause why display virtual display if you already have a display on your head. Better optimise the apps for the ar world and don’t just copy past the real world into the virtual world
@@mr.morales0707it takes a lot of time to develop applications for AR/VR, and many software devs aren't going to focus a lot of their time to create applications for a niche audience. Emulating a regular display allows conventional programs to run on an AR device, and not just tailored apps.
I think for ease of coding. Compare OpenBrush (or Google's old vr paint app) to say GIMP or Photoshop, less features but a ui built for immersion. The thing is, people are mirroring existing software stacks into the glasses/headset, not making a totally new software stack (yet)
There was really no reason to use captions for Lloyd's lines. I can perfectly understand his english without them.
I definitely see the problem with webcam calls and more “distance” to the computer if you’re not already wearing the glasses.
First thought that popped into my mind when watching this, was that Vision Pro will probably not replace all your displays, but that you can probably get by with a smaller and simpler screen for video calls and notifications.
That said, when it comes to notifications the Vision Pro does have an external display too. Could that display system notifications, progress bars or other useful info when you are not wearing it? Will probably not reduce the distance as much as a proper monitor, but could still give you visual feedback that the system is still active and working, without wearing the headset.
Also I worry that the Vision Pro is a lot heavier than this. Meaning it will be a lot less feasible doing an entire work day in AR/VR/XR.
The Nreal Air AR glasses can virtualize 3 monitors in a 3d space using their Nebula app
*Xreal now, and yee. Wonder if their app works with other glasses (no Mac to test with, and Windows app is beta)
One thing you could do to make this even more portable, more wearable like the Vision Pro, is to ditch the MacBook's chassis altogether -- you could 3D print an enclosure that skips the keyboard, and just has the motherboard, cooling, and battery sandwiched into a small box [or make a hard cover, or leave the top hinge and casing on, so you can close it in a bag and not press keys]. You can get one of those tiny pocket keyboard/trackpad combo units so you can use it anywhere; full size wireless keyboard and mouse or touchpad for regular use, and the box can strap to your belt or back or go into a backpack. Plus you can get one of those high-wattage high-capacity battery banks to keep the setup powered for even longer.
that Headless laptop combined with AR glasses is actually a good idea,
especially if you're travelling or at a coffee shop
and definitely better than typing on air or doing a stupid hand gesture.
I'd actually love to see the return of keyboard PCs with modern hardware like this "headless Macbook". That would be super cool if that would be available out of the box.
I don't think this would bring it back because like he said in the video, not having a monitor at all is a barrier. So at the end of the day, laptop and desktop from factors still win. It's either that, or 100% of the computing is done on the headset itself.
Great episode really cool shots in there mate!
Always nice seeing you posted
This is such important, practical work. Basically, I want a polished setup just like this. The Apple Vision Pro is cool, but somewhat limited at this time. I want it to basically BE a full Mac (it has an M2 chip!) so that I can just travel with the AVP + keyboard + trackpad.
5:25 Nreal has a desktop app that let's you extend to more than 1 display iirc
I love this channel so much!!
That was a smoother segue than Linus has ever done. Congrats.
7:07 I appreciate that he's using the Matias board lol.
I got one for my Mac in the basement, it's such a joy.
I can’t wait for your Vision Pro review!
They chose the wrong AR glasses! The Xreal Air does support 3 virtual monitors on Mac
Kind of research you can expect from LMG
@@battman505 wouldn't say they hadn't done enough research when it's something that Lloyd only mentioned after the fact rather than _prior_ to testing.
Really the best use of something like this, is to think of them like air pods for your eyes. If you could use your iPhone with this, it would be a perfect use case. Keep the compute module in your pocket and just slip on some glasses to interact with it, or if you don't want to mess with it, just pull the phone out of your pocket and look at the screen. The idea I could be privately watching a movie while riding a train, or seeing a maps overlay on the sidewalk as I navigate a city is appealing. Of course, this could get a bit dystopian, where you could see everyone's tinder profile floating above their heads as you walk about.
even through the controversy and the monolithic nature that comes with being such a large entity in the techtube space, it's hard to deny the diversity of perspectives and concentration at talent at ltt! fascinating video
Except this video is just a rip off of what action retro did earlier this year
I have the same exact headless MacBook Pro but is it currently hooked up to a brand new second hand Apple Cinema Display HD 30”. I use them daily and total cost was 350ish Euro.
I would definitely try to use the glasses too.
6:52 you can just see her clearly saying “that’s just stressful” and that’s the exact feeling I had throughout the whole video lmao
Ohh, I like the idea of a broken screen Mac! That’s brilliant!
Having AR/VR with just the display pieces that looks like regular sun glasses is where it should be with an external gpu doing the processing. The only reason they are now much bulkier is because companies that make it decided they needed to integrate the gpu into the headset, which is wrong. Only if it needs to be portable is that required. But if not, it should be no bigger then a pair of sun glasses.
And when it is the same size as a pair of sun glasses, and the screen projected in front of you doesn't move when you move your head, then it will take off I think.
Headless Macbook with AR glasses is a great combo
I like how the prod quality is impecable, it's like a very google quality of a TV Show...nice
I suggest a leap motion to add hand tracking to controls using guestures and mouse controls for a full vision pro experience.
It appears he ended up using XReal Airs instead of the rokid glasses?
If you used Nebula for Mac it would have allowed multiple screens locked to specific areas. A much better experience.
1:48 loving the Bonobo music choice
great, something else i didn't know that i needed until just now.
How was it like for others while using it? It would have been great to get Lloyd's co-worker in the office experience with someone using it around them. Ideas for when the Vision Pro comes out and the review?
Combine these glasses, a GPD WIN MAX, cargo pants, and the Tap 2 keyboard knuckles and you have quite the setup.
From this short "skit", I think the most valuable thing I saw was that his posture was better. Because the "screen" is in the upper vision area, he was not looking down like you would on your phone or laptop screen. When you have a good desktop setup, you should always have the monitor in an appropriate location, but laptops rarely do. By moving your monitor to your upper vision area, even this "laptop" is a better work enrvironment IMO.
Nest LLT job description - Hair Continuity Cordinator.
Try quest 3 and see if that makes more of a difference since that is more robust then the rokid (or other sunglasses devices)
I love that Lloyd’s iMac looks just like mine with painter’s tape holding the display on 😂
The input aspects is entirely different.. I assume Apple don't want people to use mouse when using vision pro (even though they could). From the demos it'll be more like interacting with spatial hologram, Iron Man style. And current apps might need redesign to support pinch input, like ipad apps is different with mac apps. Tough they seem to support opening mac apps in visionOS, like you can use ipad to extend macbook screen. And though tactile feel of keyboard couldn't be replaced, they might push people to use voice instead.
I believe there's an app for the rokid for two/three monitors
Why does only Lloyd have subtitles? He’s not speaking another language and I can understand him perfectly. Maybe he doesn’t mind but this feels very offensive to the guy.
I made a headless MacBook Pro sort of don't have any goggles yet but I have thought about the concept. Wondered if I would like it. Wouldn't be useful for most things but occasionally I think it would find use. I used an old one of the earlier generations of unibody. I have that connected to a touchscreen and I use it to control my audio mixer stage right house left and then I have a handful of other devices a small GPD P3 for caring with me while I run around and fix problems and listen to the space and I have a windows tablet for a slightly bigger screen and a Windows convertible the swivel screen not the yoga for the times when I want something a little bit bigger and have a little bit more space at the venue. I also have one of those small form factor mini PCs for hooking up to a 15 inch touchscreen when I do have a nice table to work from. Took me a while to find a compatible touchscreen monitor but I like the experience on the Mac although it doesn't support multitouch. It's also running the older version of Mac OS X when things used to be in a reasonable way out although it still has the stupid full screen green button bug you know when they changed it from being a maximize function to the un-tasking full screen mode.
you can do 3 screens with xreal air on a mac and lock it in space just like vision pro. with body anker.. since I see you have xreal air id let him try those instead and see what he thinks with the 3 screens
Hrm, I feel like you would get a closer experience if you used something like the Quest and it's MR functionality.
This is actually really cool
Why didn’t you just use continuity mode for the mac to use your phone as a webcam?
The single 4K screen from the Mac was the #1 issue I noticed when the Vision Pro was unveiled. If Apple was able to expand this to allow either using any MacOS app as a separate window, or expand the casted screen from 4K 16:9 to say 5120x2160 21:9 that would already help a lot. iOS apps + single screen is just a shitty, subpar solution.
I'm jealous - I did the same project and I haven't published my results yet. Very nice! Continued Success! I often use it for watching CZcams videos and movies.
I haven’t had any MacBooks thereby difficult to make it headless but I have done it with an ASUS laptop which I use to connect to a TV as a media PC, lol.
You know what. It would be nice to pop a desktop environment from my phone like that. I would need a phone, glasses and a keybord/trackpad and I would do my homeworks anywhere. It would not repace my main computer but just be an alternative.
Lloyd take the frickin peel off the acer logo on the back of your right monitor before I come over there and do it myself!
I actually liked the touch screen one and believe it should have gone from jank-mod to full fledge 3d print a way to keep that monitor on
Bloke speaks perfect English, but sure - put subtitles on when he speaks...
This is actually a fascinating behavior experiment with wearable device.
sso happy to see the new merch Item that pet house looks awesome, I want one, was actually just looking for one, guess I'll wait. :)
Well, another brilliant idea 🤩
Hey MA if I wanted subtitles I would turn on subtitles….why did you give just ONE guy subtitles? Now if I turn on subtitles I get a garbled mess at the bottom of the screen just for him.
Jonathan gives off an energy I hope to emulate every day.
I was fascinated by this concept until I got my first peek at the Pet House at 6:58 -- now my attention is completely diverted to being excited for that
I feel like the least important aspect of AR tech is being able to show your own face on a call. Far more useful will be the ability to show your exact perspective to others in the call. Being able to see what you see, be it real world or virtual object, and be able to advise and annotate in your heads up display will be a killer app for so many things. Tele-health, remote inspections, remote training, product design, etc. Just imagine if, in this video, you were able to peer around that dog bed instead of having to hold it up to a stationary camera.
xreal were working on the software for a few virtual monitors I think ....but maybe for windows
There are no antenna's anymore. Does the wifi work?
I did this for a half a year and it was not fun but it is good when you dont have a desk and need to work
Why did you add subtitles when Lloyd is talking 😂
So vision os is windows 8, with the metro apps?
Did not like how only Lloyd had subtitles. Interesting video otherwise
I think the best part of this was fixing a broken mac/reusing it.
I really like the different narrative format of the Mac address channel compared to the ltt channel.
Happy early Christmas Jonathan
The biggest issue for me with these kinds of setups is the screen always following you, which the Vision Pro seems to fix - it appears to be anchored in the world like a real screen
Yeah it can be annoying. When I tried it, I was surprised at how it forced me to keep my head up. Which might be good for posture?
7:10 Oh man that is a LOOK!
What's that keyboard at 10:22?
The quest 3 with Immersed App should be what he tries next.
I'm one of the people who is incredibly excited for Vision Pro and all the new ways of working it can bring. One of the reasons is that I work in audio, so being able to remove the computer screens (Which do negatively affect the acoustics.) from my studio sounds like a very promising prospect.
Usually these types of glasses or headsets don't cause motion sickness, they are more open and made for everybody . VR when you are sealed off from reality and can't perceive your surroundings, that gives people nausea and motion sickness.
I’m wondering why they didn’t use the quest 3 with a app like immersed. It’d still be under 1000 and more like the Vision Pro
Why did Lloyd have captions?
This makes me think a chair company and a glasses company need to collaborate so the headset's attached to the chair and doesn't put weight on your head or face. As well as implementing a mount for peripherals like a keyboard, mouse or controller.
SICK
Does the holo lense support 2 monitors?
I actually would really like something like this. I would actually consider using this day to day, especially with samsung dex and maybe a steam deck.
why didn't you use Xreal air and you can have up to 3 virtual screen or wide screens and Lock position of it ...? (with Nebula app )
