Hi Cynthia, how’s your day going with you?
I like the checkerboard alternating with solid blocks
It would be a great layout for a big, bold print in those alternate squares! Send me a picture if you make one! 💙🎉💙

Hi Lois, how’s your day going with you?
A very nice, patient, form of teaching a newbie how to make simple, but beautiful, variations of quilts using strips!
Thanks for being here! Which design is your favorite?
I’m drawn to the Checkerboard Star. Any pattern making stars ⭐️⭐️always catches my eye!
Thank you. I am about to do a pizza box quilt challenge where we have to do two blocks a month for others and there is a lady I don't like so I want something easy. Ha ha ha I think the rail fence variations will be perfect.
@@colleend2977 thanks for watching! What colors are you using for your rail fence? Choosing fabrics is such fun! 💙🎉💙
I love it. I have been taking sewing lessons and learned more from you than I have from her. Thank you so much.
Thank you for such kind words! What pattern did you start with?
Pu cant go wrong w CZcams, no need to pay anyone♡
I really like your version of trip around the world. Looks a lot easier than others I've seen, and made! Looking forward to making one this way❤
Sewing the tube got me thinking of Bargello patterns. I’ll have to do a video about that soon! Thanks for watching 💙🎉💙
You are a very good teacher showing each step. Enjoyed your video as I love geometric patterns
Thank you for such kind words 🥰 Tell me, do you like scrappy rainbow quilts or just 1-2 colors?
@@TrueBlueQuilts I'm a more scrappy person. I haven't had time to sew in quite a while. I have alot of plants and have been doing lots of propagations for church and charity. It's about time for me to start doing things for myself like sewing. I'll be using your channel for inspiration !!!!!!
All of it is awesome! You outdid yourself. Thank you so much.
You are too kind! 🥰. Thanks for watching. I have a live stream on the first Saturday of each month. I hope to see you then! 💙🎉💙

Just found your site. So glad I did! The ideas you gave, using jelly roll strips are really helpful. I have a number of jelly rolls and didn’t know what to make with them. I got great ideas from the tutorial. So thanks very much for these great ideas!
So glad you’ve been inspired 💙🎉💙 What are you making first?
Genius idea with Trip Around The world
Love the trip Round the world ❤
That is fun to make as a scrappy quilt!
Very clever. The best strip video I have seen in a long time. I especially like the Trip Round the World version.

Just came across your channel. Great information. Thank you for your clear instructions.

This is so wonderful.
I never get tired of checkerboard quilts
Do you like completely scrappy or color-blocked versions?
You make it look simple. Thx for showing this.
Well, I have had a lot of practice 😂 Let me know what else I should demonstrate!
I am sooooo addicted to pre-cuts.
They do make it fun. Less time cutting means more time sewing! Do you have a favorite pattern?
@@TrueBlueQuilts Every pattern is my favorite pattern... until I see the next 😂 I'm trying to come up with something for my 4 year old granddaughter. She's a very girly girl. Just made a rag quilt for the 2 year old.

This looks like so much fun. Just learning. Thanks. Ur awesome
There are so many great things about quilting! Keep learning 🎉 Thanks for watching 💙
Hi Anna, how’s your day going with you?
I have always wanted to make a "scrappy" Checkerboard quilt. The concept of using small leftover multi-colored scraps to make a quilt, sounds & looks very primitive! 😍
That sounds like a fun long term project! How long have you been quilting?
@ True Blue Quilts-I have been sewing all my life. Mainly Costumes, doll clothes & crafts. I have never quilted before!
Good video! Love your shirt as I am working on a Blue Rose quilt at the moment. 💙
That sounds gorgeous! Happy quilting 💙🎉💙
Hi I’ve just discovered this video and thrilled as i have many scraps and strips. You have given me some great ideas. 🌻
Do you save the “bonus triangles” when you trim corners? I love to make scrappy hourglass units. Here are some ideas for those blocks - Quilt Blocks from Bonus Triangles - sewing with scraps, classic blocks with half square triangles

Hi Elizabeth, how’s your day going with you?
I was noticing your coffee coaster behind the sewing machine and I have the same one that one of my kids got me for Christmas! 😀
Good eyes! I’ll have to start putting more fun stuff in the background 😂
I found a way to get my “checker board blocks” to easily match. Use the Pellon gridded fusible. You just lay your blocks on each square and turn the panel over and sew 1/4 inch seams on the horizontal and the clip your corners and sew on the vertical. Voila all corners match perfectly! Good luck to newbies as I am one too!
I used the fusible grid for a project many years ago. Great suggestion! Thanks for being part of the True Blue Crew 💙🎉💙

Muchas gracias.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching 💙🎉💙
Stripology ruler a godsend for this applications. Thanks for your clear teaching/demonstration. I frequently intraseam snip to get seam allowances to conform. (I only press seams open under duress). Not many people demonstrate that, and I hope that you win some converts to that effective technique.
Glad you are having success! Thanks for watching 💙🎉💙
Wonderful tutorial! ❤
Thanks for watching 💙🎉💙
I like the stars in the middle😊.
Nice video! My favorite part about using jelly rolls,.though, is the scrap quilts the leftovers make, so I can look at it and see all the quilts I made.
So much to love about scrappy quilts! They tell amazing stories 💙🎉💙
Brilliant
Which pattern will you start with? National Sew a Jelly Roll Day is coming up soon!
Checkerboard stars!!!
I love Star blocks of all kinds! I made a smaller version here 9-Patch Star quilt block

This was fun!
Which block did you like best?
I’m a prewasher, so I don’t use precuts. However, I really enjoyed seeing the various combinations of the strip sets. Thank you!
If I need to wash precuts I either soak them in a tub or use a lingerie bag. But, you could also cut your own strips from prewashed yardage! Tips in this video Top 3 Tools for DIY Jelly Rolls - Cut Your Own Strip Sets

I prewash also. I buy the fabric then make strips after prewash. I've tried laundry bags, but didn't have much success.
I love it
I finally get the trip around the world pattern. Just reading the instructions sometimes doesn't work in my Braine. Thank you.
Glad it helped! Happy quilting 💙🎉💙
I like the Trip Around The World Quilt. Its the 1st time I've seen it. Scrappy version would be my choice. My 2nd favorite is Checkerboard and Solid square.

Monochromatic is my favorite…especially in blues 😍
THIS IS AWESOME Wish there was a PDF print version. But I took pictures and will print everyone out. THANK YOU.!

Thank you very much ,l'm learning how:to:sew a quilt .God bless.
That’s awesome! What color is your quilt?
There's a free pattern called jelly roll relish that's lovely. I made a beautiful quilt for my granddaughter from it.
Lots of good resources online! 💙🎉💙
I usually put a clip on the end after I finish sewing so if I am interrupted I will remember which end I finished on. I remove it before starting at the other end and repeat.
Smart move!!
Great tip, thanks🌻🙏
I’m doing a batik Trip Around the World…not as pretty as it could be because I’m just using up old fabric, but still pretty.
It sounds wonderful. Using your stash is always a good option 💙🎉💙
Wow so beautiful mam👌👌
Really good tutorial Jan😊
Thanks for watching! Which block was your favorite?
@@TrueBlueQuilts All of them ate on my try list !!!
Oh soo gotta make the trip around the world quilt
It’s a fun one!! Will yours be completely scrappy or monochromatic? 💙🎉💙
@TrueBlueQuilts definitely monochromatic the is just something about monochromatic colors schemes that I'm drawn too. I'm even a Sumi-e artist by trade berate they just calm me. Ohhh but could do a black white and grays but quilt with red thread.
I ❤ the tip to alternate sewing the strips so as to avoid 'waving' of strip-sets! Altho I am a seasoned quilter and my close friend is a quilt teacher, I somehow missed this tip somewhere along the line🤔. Thanx!
No one can know everything! I’m glad you found useful information. What is your current quilt project?
@@TrueBlueQuiltsThank you for inquiring! I am currently working on an autumn landscape quilt with mountains and waterfall which winds down into a creek. A pieced rustic cabin with pines and white birch trees with an owl, red fox, etc. I also intend on applying embellishments. Right now I'm piecing the cabin. It's a fun journey!
I like them all but I really want to do the trip around the world
That’s a fun one! Pretty in any and all colors!
👏👏👏👏👏
I want to make a checkerboard with blues for my granddaughter!
Ooh, I’d love to see that! Blue is my favorite…have you noticed?!? 😂💙🎉💙
Hi Florence, how’s your day going with you?
I like trip around world block
That is a fun one!! Do you make completely scrappy quilts or use coordinated fabrics?
@@TrueBlueQuilts i would like to learn
Checkerboard and probably stars.
The checkerboard would be a fun scrap-buster project! And you can’t go wrong with stars 💙🎉💙
Oh this is great, thank you. I love Jelly Rolls. But after I sew a few together, I have no idea what to do with them.
Thanks for watching! Now you have some new ideas. Happy quilting! 💙🎉💙
What is the white container with scissors to the right of your machine? Love the bright blue strips! The trip around the world block is so pretty.
I keep a lot of stuff in a repurposed kitchen organizer. I think I got it from Pampered Chef years ago 😂 thanks for watching 💙🎉💙
I have two of them, one at my sewing machine and one in my longarm room. I bought mine from Pampered Chef nearly 30 years ago. They rotate and are invaluable!
❤
Thanks for watching!
Stars
My favorite too 🤩
I made a Christmas quilt with this method. The rail fence method did not turn out the way I planned. I had swastika pattern! I had to change it all up!!
Oh dear, that is one of unfortunate possibilities with this layout. Glad you were able to adjust!
I propably will start with the stripes because I'm a beginner.
Great choice! The rail fence block will help you practice those important quarter-inch seams 💙🎉💙
I would love to do the checkerboard star quilt but I'm new at quilting and not sure I can do it unless I found a tutorial to work as I watch it!!
You can do it! The checkerboard portion is obviously made with strip sets. Then you add star points with either flying geese or half square triangles. A bit of quilt math depending on what size you want your quilt to be then you are ready to sew 👍
You should watch a tutorial about using a seam ripper.
Lots of ways to accomplish the task! Critique my methods here The BEST Method for Un-sewing (How I recovered from a quilting disaster)
czcams.com/video/xZc9EaT3Yzk/video.html
What a great idea. I'm not really a "quilter", but have made a few baby quilts for the grandkids and now great grandbabies. Do you always use 5 strips of fabric to do a trip around the world?
No, you can use any number. 5 strips make 10” blocks, and 6 strips will make 12” finished blocks. Have fun! 💙🎉💙
