The block is a variation of Edna's Choice (#101) according the book 5500 Quilt Block Designs by Maggie Malone.
As a SUPER beginner I appreciate this video. I hate wasting fabric
Yay! So glad it is helpful!
I'm so glad to see that you pin so much. I thought there was something wrong with me, since I can't seem to sew without pinning. Thank you. 🙂🙃🙂
A kindred spirit! I love it! I would much rather pin than use the seam ripper. 😀 Goad I am not the only one, too. ❤️
You can also glue as well
I also pin my blocks, a quilt teacher said it help keel it nice and even. Never look so neat if I don't. 😊 happy quilting
You guys don’t need to pin and actually it doesn’t help the fabric lay flat. I use glue or that wonder tape. Super simple don’t need to spend time taking pins out as you’re sewing it’s so fast
I found a similar type of wonder tape at Joann fabric and it works just as well. And I got a lot more for a dollar the wonder tape brand is a little bit more pricey
@@dcwatashiThat stuff is spendy and has issues of its own!
I love my love my yellow-head pins, 500 pack! You should see the ladies at the shop flip.over my nice crisp intersections on my *heavy-fabric, with everything from cordouroy to sateen finishes, damask, upholstery, etc, 1199+ separate squares* --- that stuff goes walking no matter how you hold it!
Yes, perhaps basic cotton holds itself in place almost perfectly, but most other fabrics have other ideas.
Longer pins enable you to pin without buckling the fabric, and also assist in stress-free "taking up" of excess length, since you sit and split the difference with pins until you like the distribution, then as you sew you can relax just trust that you placed the pins well, and enjoy your beautiful seam!
I loved your opening where all different seasons and holidays could be made with this awesome Block. I watched this twice‼️👏👏💜
Thank you, Vicki! I am so happy you love it! ❤️
YES!!! 🔥I love all the methods you showed!!
Great explanation as always!!!❤This is a quilt
I would totally make!!🤩
Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️ So happy you love it!
❤❤❤I love your tips and blocks!
Great tips, thank you ❤
I absolutely loved them! Perfected for our end of year bunches & bunches of scraps. I do have to add I love the older quilts. I have 5 right now I punched from an older sweet woman.. She just didn’t want them any longer😢 I felt I had to rescue them!!! 😊
Love this! Rescued quilts are the best! Happy they have a great home now. ❤️
Wonderful tutorial! Love that you rescued, cleaned, and learned SEW much from an older quilt. Great block. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
I just found your channel today!! I have a lot of scraps and this block will be perfect to use them up!! (or, at least some of them) I love your teaching style and your bubbly personality.
Thank you so much! So glad you found me! ❤️❤️❤️
Love this block. A great scrappy block to make between projects or at the end of each sewing session and would be wonderful for a charity Quilt.
Great ideas! Love the ideas of a charity quilt, especially! Thank you for this!
definitely liking how you show many ways to get the same look, so depending how we process our scraps, the instructions are clear and easy to do.
Yay! That was the goal. So happy you enjoyed it! ❤️
I was thinking fussy cut fabric for the middle, applique works, too! Thinking I might start a leaders and enders with Christmas fabrics for a quilt like this -- or several!! I've got a LOT of Christmas fabric!! LOL!! Thank you for sharing!
Love, love, love this idea!!! That would be wonderful! Same with fussy cutting and appliqué! So happy you love this! .
Oh my goodness, how ez is that. 🥰
So happy you like it! A fun block to make! ❤️
Hurray! Someone besides me and Kimberly Jolly who pins! I think it save many headaches. Thanks for creating 3 ways to make it too. Very helpful!
Yes!!! I would much rather pin than use the seam ripper! Lol! Thank you for your kind words! ❤️
Thank you for sharing with us beginners…retired but love material❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching. Glad you loved it!
Thankyou thankyou Kris for this video. Your object might have been to show us how to do the scrappy quilt block and yes, I really enjoyed this but what I valued most was the lesson on how to square up your block. I was given a whole bunch of blocks made by different people and asked to sew them together. My mind went blank because all the squares were, well, not uniform in their square and I didn't know where to start. Especially too because I had cut and made some blocks to go with it too. Mine all matched, other blocks matched each other but nothing was uniform. Now I can fix it all up. Finally, I know what I am doing!!!!!!! Thank you.
Yayyyy! I love when that happens! I am happy it is useful. ❤️
This also could be made into making curtains for Kicthen enjoyed watching and I've learned from you I'm new to quilting Thank you 😊
You are so welcome! Such a wonderful idea to make it into curtains! Love it! Thank you for this! ❤️
Love the red quilt
I love your Old Quilt videos, which are informative and educational. Thanks for sharing your vintage treasures.
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!
As an experienced quilter, i appreciate that you move along and don't waste time demonstrating sewing and pressing EVERY seam. The instructions and demo as still clear! It saves time so i can watch more of your videos (:
Thank you so much! I really try my best to streamline it, although sometimes I still get hung up on recording those details. 😀 I am always asking myself, "Is this something the viewer needs to know?" You are so sweet! So happy you love my content! ❤️
Love this idea! I think I’ll use full sized jelly roll strips and cut them down into 2 patches and just toss ‘em in a basket until I have a whole pile to make into a quilt (putting the 2 patches randomly all over the quilt so it doesn’t get matchy-matchy).
Thanks for sharing!
GREAT IDEA! Love that! It would add another element to the fun for sure! Thank you!
I will deconstruct my gently used napkins and pillowcases for my scrappy blocks. Thank for sharing your sewing lessons, Kris.
You are so welcome! ❤️
Hi Chris. I just watched this video today, 9.2.23 because I have a tub of 5" squares to make donation quilts. I've tried just sewing them randomly together and it isn't appealing to me. Your special block really makes the block look awesome. I watch all of the videos you post and really enjoy them. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Thank you so much! This makes my heart so happy! 🥰
i am sorry the block isn't working for you. 😔 Maybe try just one or two colors from your scraps? Let me know if I can help you with this.
Fussy cut pics for the middle too. Love it!
Great idea! Love that!
Great instructions!
Thank you! Glad is it helpful! ❤️

I think this is the block I will use as my warm up once I get back to sewing! I have a bunch of 2.5” strips left over from some placemats I made a couple years ago. I’ll do half with the center white/cream and rhe other half black/dk grey. Great tutorial! Hope your weekend is fantastic, Kris!

Thank you! ❤️
Like the holiday quilt.
Thank you! ❤️
Thank you for showing different ways to make.
You are so welcome! This is a fun one!
I built this quilt block using a scrappy look, though a bit planned. I alternated a dark blue on the four corners with red. I did not put sashing between. Lots of matching. But did border it for ease in binding.
And it turned out beautifully! I love it! Thank you for sharing this on Facebook! I love that you made it! ❤️
Love it. You fussy cut a center square too. ☺️
Great idea! I love it!
Kris, thanks for the tutorial! It’s a great block, perfect for using up scraps.

This would be a fantastic leader/ender project.
Yes! It would make Bonnie Hunter proud! ❤️
Love this video! I'm always looking for new ideas for my scraps, which are always threatening to take over my sewing room. I have a bin with pieces of jelly rolls, another of charm squares, and another with 2-1/2" squares, so I'm good to go with any of the methods!
Wow! You have all the techniques covered! Lol! This is perfect. Scraps are taking over my sewing space. I need to be more organized. Happy quilting!
Thank you, I love this! I can use up all my material!!
You are so welcome! YAY! Scraps are so much fun to work with!
This is a great block for a memory quilt where people write lovely things and sign in center block. I have one similar to this.
Love love love this idea! Thank you for sharing!
Love this!!! A couple times a year I cut all my scraps up into precut sizes. So I have bins of 2.5 & 5" squares. As I love a truly completely scrappy quilt, I think I might make this with out the sashing. 😊
Yay! I love it! I am so happy to hear it is useful! ❤️❤️❤️
I love this quilt block and the quilt that inspired it!
Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for all the three different tips. I’ve done it a couple ways but the one where are you make the jelly rolls I’ve never used done before. Thank you for the tip. Have a good day also.
So happy you liked this! ❤️❤️❤️
Scrappy is my fav! Kept watching for this video. Thanks so muchfor sharing. I will definitely be doing these blocks. Maybe one with all seasons in one quilt!
Love that idea! Wouldn’t that be fun? Thank you for this!
I was thinking a year of holidays quilt.
Great video! Thank you for sharing the different ways to make the blocks!
Thank you! And you are so welcome! ❤️
I’m going to be cutting lots of two and a half inch squares to use as leaders when I’m sewing other projects with the aim of creating these blocks 👍 I loved how your ‘old quilt’ had the same fabric for the sashings and block centres so I’m also going to look for a suitable fabric while I’m making the squares 🥰 So looking forward to getting on with this 😊 Thanks for sharing your wonderful quilt 👍🇬🇧
YAY! That's a great idea! I am sure the quilt will be amazing! The old quilt was so inspiring, I just had to recreate the block. ❤️ Thank you for watching and sharing this great idea!
Awesome technique for square it.
Thank you! 🥰
This is just lovely, thank you for this tutorial! I bought bunch of 5 inch-ish squares in a scrap sale and was kind of stumped as to what to do with them as some are really wonky, but now I know just what to do!
Yay! I love it when things work out like that! So glad this is helpful!
