Danny Carey was playing 3/8 with his right hand, triplets with his left hand while matching the 4/4 of the bass guitar with the right kick and HH on the left foot. And it's incredible to hear the 3/8 come around to line up with the 4/4 at different points every few measures. The band is pure magic.

10:30 Danny actually uses a remote/"cable" hi-hat stand. He's operating the pedal with his left foot, but it's separated from the rest of the hi-hat stand, which he positioned between his bass drums.
At this part, he's playing (very light) quarter notes on the bass drum, as well as with the hi-hat. From what I've seen, when he's keeping a consistent pulse on the hi-hat like this, I _believe_ he utilizes a sort of back-and-forth rocking motion (toe to heel) with his left foot; that's why you don't see him moving his left leg very much here--because he's primarily just using his foot.

I cant stop watching these danny carey pneama reactiion vids, this is my fav so far and yes now your baby Jack is embobied with the artistry that is tool in his conciousness. Can anyone reccomend anything better than this or not to compare but similiar? yuo were chair rocking out like me, almost an irony with a baby in your arms and then playing tool..i was born in 82 and these guys were my childhood but i didnt even realise the technique and godliike magestry of the drums of danny carey till now. I could go on about the greatness of this vid for ever and i will still never understand everything that is happening musically all i know is it makes me feel like im watching the absolute dedidcation and strength and talent and on a level i can only dream of. cheers

It’s insane how he can keep two different time signatures like you’re listening to two drummers. I like his use of volume like in the cross sticking section. He’s definitely the best drum writer of our time.

I am a drummer and have watched over 40 reactions to this video and FINALLY someone mentions the cross arm cymbal crashes at 13:09. It is a move sometimes used for flash. In this instance, not only is it because he is that far into the groove, the precision with which he lands both of those crashes without looking is amazing. Thanks for your reaction video. It is one of my top 5 now easily!

Watched a heap of reviews of this clip, and no one has mentioned how tight these guys must be off stage and in life itself. Especially the writer and vocalist, Maynard.
They must be devoted to him. The best of the best of friends.Take a bullet for you twice kind of friends. He brings the utmost out of them, causing them to elevate their games to levels like here....wow.
His writing, vocals and stage presence demand respect, and they're glad to give it. And more.
This isn't a gig for them. A way to get chicks and make money.
    This is a family.
A very tight, talented and dedicated one.
