    Ive actually found, thanks to a tip from a friend, that using a UV light can help cure chrome paint. Ive started using Mirror chrome paint which is amazing and brushes on quite well, I then throw it in a nail UV lamp for 30 minutes and it cures it. Might also work for the chrome paint youre using.

    This was cool. Good to see you exploring a new angle with the powder coating, your explanation bringing us along was nice too. I like how you try to keep your setups realistic for others to follow and not some complex difficult specialist thing.

    You sound like the “how it’s made” guy, or at least have a similar tone, and I really like it cuz I just get submerged and hypnotized to learn. It’s honestly therapeutic and somewhat productive at the same time, since in the future I plan on working on my own model kits, you give valuable information to help me get a better understanding of the whole process even though you mainly do restoration.

    I've seen powder coating used in larger restorations, such as large tonka toys, but never on a small diecast. Pretty nice.
    One thing I've seen them do is to do a base primer coat, sanded down, to eliminate some of the pitting. Then follow up with the actual paint.

    First thing, thanks for showing that powder coating small object is easy and affordable. I find myself powder coating instead of spray painting these days. I have been playing with powder coat and also baked epoxy coatings for firearms. I use a cheap setup from eBay for applying powder. Something I have found to be very helpful to keep the oven at the proper temp, this being very important when coating some aluminum alloys, was a temperature controller I got on Amazon for about 15 bucks. The unit learns the response of the oven's heater and never overshoots the programmed temp by more tha n5 degrees. I have obtain really great results with the simple mod ina cheap toaster oven.

      @shellygenter8585 Před 3 lety

      @@baremetalHW it's heavy paint coating. I'm not sure how to avoid it, I just was an inspection/assembly gal. The specks I know are dirt/dust particles that got onto your paint surface. For that you need a "clean" booth. Some place that it can't get in. But that too costly/involved for a hobbyist. (In my opinion)

    • @baremetalHW
      @baremetalHW  Před 3 lety +1

      @@shellygenter8585 yeah that's the problem... I can create a "clean room" but then it takes it out of what normal people can do. But I can probably do a lighter coat... just inexperience on my part... thanks for the help!!
