Kobe Bryant's final shot needs a deep rewind

  • On April 13, 2016, Kobe Bryant could have mailed in his last ever regular season game. Instead, it became one of the most prolific, exciting nights of his career. Before we watch Bryant's FIFTIETH SHOT -- his 26,200th as a Laker -- we should reflect on everything that made it so important.
It's worth taking a moment to reflect on the fact that Kobe made it through a record-setting 20 seasons in Los Angeles, somehow surpassing some of the greatest players in NBA history atop franchise leaderboards. Those twenty seasons included numerous championships, but also infighting, scandal, trade requests, and more losing than you might remember. Of course, by the time 2016 rolled around, those losing days had returned. To appreciate what Kobe gave us in his final game for a fallen team, it's worth remembering some of his most prolific scoring (and shooting) nights in prior down times.
    Let's rewind.

I drove out to Staples just to feel the mojo in the air that day. The place was packed. I remember they put out a story that said they sold some record of merch for one player in a single day.
The over/under on Kobe's points for the first quarter was 7. The game was 27. I won both of those bets, and I watched the last game with my best friend and his BIL. One of the last great Lakers moments he'd live to see.

I've never gotten over THAT. The biggest event in my entire life. The last 6.75 yrs have been the hardest 'almost 7 years' of my entire life. 😥😭
That doesn't even address the fact that I've got a total of 3 videos of her. Three. And plenty of pictures. But only 3 vids because her mother & I were split up and she did everything she could to keep my daughter from me. So I rarely saw her at times. And it never crossed my mind that I'd possibly only get 2 years with her before she was taken from us. I thought I had time... I thought there were still years to catch up. And in a flash, it was all taken away. 😭 All, because somebody couldn't put their fkn phone down and drive. Her mother thought texting was more important than the lives in her vehicle. And she caused the death of our child because of it.

It’s been over 2 years since Kobe’s passing and it’s still hard for me to watch videos with or about him. He was/is the sole reason I started loving basketball. Mind you I was born in 2000 in Ohio and didn’t start watching basketball until 2008 all because of Kobe. For some reason I was drawn to Kobe over Lebron (if you aren’t from Ohio you might not understand how big of a deal that it) I guess I could just see the passion every time he played and I was glued to watching him. Ever since then I’ve been a lakers fans and Kobe has always been my favorite player. I remember exactly where I was when I saw that tmz article 5 minutes after it was posted on Twitter… of course I didn’t believe it at first it was tmz… but when it was confirmed all I could think about was how the night before he was watching Lebron pass him in scoring in a laker jersey with Gigi right next to him. My day was ruined my idol. The reason I love this sport. Just gone. It felt as if I lost a part of me. I have always been passionate about things I do/want to do with my life and I attribute that to watching Kobe play and listening to him talk about the game. I wanted to be like him in any aspect of life. Eventually I realized that he wouldn’t mope around, he would get up and keep pushing for his goals and dreams and that’s what I had to do. It took me awhile because man I know I never knew the guy but part of me left with him and I don’t know if I’ll ever get that part back. I love this sport and it’s because of Kobe. I wanted to be like him. I still want to be like him. And for that I thank you Kobe. Rest In Peace to the greatest Laker of all time

With Shaq being ran out of town, at a point like that, you either shoot it or you just get the Lakers down to the D League. If not passing caused a gentleman sweep by the 04 Pistons, having your way with the shots also caused a damage like blowing a 3-1 lead to the injured Suns.
