    "How are the songs chosen?"
It depends on each country. Some host special singing competitions (like my country, Iceland), others just send in a song for a jury to vote on, etc. Each country does the song choosing differently.

    • @mjm3091
      @mjm3091 Před 11 měsíci +2

Also depends on year - aside countries that have decades old competitions like Italy and Sweden, that are used to pick the person - it may vary based on budget and situation in specific country.
For example Poland also have had used The Voice (Kids) or equivalent competition to pick their contestants during few years.
There are also situations where the TV executives pick or invite specific artists.

I'm happy with Lord of the Lost. After the last years it's enough for most of us germans to at least get recognized and collect some points in the contest. We don't have to win. Not being ashamed is already an improvement. :'D Patty Gurdy would've been also fine with me. I like her Song a lot. I think the Live Performance broke her neck. From Outfit to staging - it could have been more fitting and impressive. It's a pity. Trong - always overlooked - is the winner of my heart. The Song wasn't strong enough this year but I still do like him and hope that he doesn't give up on Eurovision. He tried for some years now and I know that he can be "better" than what we saw this year. He is a great performer. The Song was just too weak

Hey! You asked for an explanation about Latvia's entry, so here you go.
The word "Aijā" (the title of the song) is a Latvian word for the action of putting somebody to sleep, so it is a lullaby. Usually, we don't think of lullabies when hearing more rock-inspired songs, but I think it works great and it fits the topic of the song very well. I wouldn't say it's a gimmick at all.
The song is a lullaby for the world and for those, who have hard times right now, for example because of war. It talks about anxiety, stress and other problems. The time signature in this is a bit different, for example it has a 5/4 beat in the verses.
Many people don't like it when listening to it the first time (often because of the unusual time signature), but after listening to it several times, it really grows on people. I like the song a lot because I can really connect to it and everyone can too in his/her own way. The lyrics in this are simple and effective.
Especially the chorus - "Don't cry, I'll try to say the right words at the right times, Sing you lullabies, Please, don't wake up, wake up" gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. Others might think it's repetitive, I think it's beautiful. Again, this can be connected with the meaning of the song.
The last part of the song is in Latvian. "Aijā, aijā, saldā miegā" (translated it means something like "sweet dreams") is a common phrase in Latvian lullabies and shows again how it's a song for the world that needs to be calmed down.
It's my personal favourite in this year so far and I hope it will qualify in the first semifinal, it's Latvia's best entry in years :)

By the way, you're gonna need to get used to us Europeans not being very Christian and also definitely not supporting any overtly Christian songs - we're pretty agnostic/athiest over here, despite the history, especially when it comes to Eurovision ;) It's the huge LGBT fan base that lights it up.

About Latvian song - it's a lullaby, that they try to sign. If You will listen to liricy you will hear part about TV and protecting someone from outside world ( like protecting child). But it's not only about protecting children from outside world, if You will watch official video, you will see quite dramatic ending, probably with the thought, that we can't always sleep and pretend to unsee outside world, because then it can k**l us.

    • @loveyourworkout126

And also the lullaby part is smothening, but the soft rock part is representing outside world. It's good song, if You will listen and try to put all the pieces together, but that's probably will be the reason why it won't qualify, because You need to analyse it.

So will Germany. Of all of those, I'd say France scores highest, but still nowhere near top 10, and it's not because of the song necessarily, it's just that it doesn't have something special that will make people who normally wouldn't vote for any of the big countries anyway vote for it

I don't wanna destroy you dreams of 🇦🇿 Azerbaijan but this year they can be happy if they get more Points then UK in 2021 because there are no Jury's in Semis which will vote them and Televoting Points i don't think so.

Btw Sweden only getting hyped up cuz Loreen already won Eurovision, back in 2012. Needless is to say her voice and staging is saving her, cuz the song and the lyrics are meh overall.

Honestly, I disagree. I think Sweden generally has the best entries, as year after year I have loved their songs. I think Azerbaijan has had some good entries, but I think they have had some bad entries, including this year.
In fact, this year is one of the weakest in my opinion.
I am a Brit, but I am speaking as a resident of Europe. I agree that the UK's entries are usually terrible! 😂
