7:50 Hearing Jim be thrilled about this spot genuinely warms my heart. The way he expressed about it made him sound like he was a young boy again watching wrestling during its glory days. It's small moments like this in MJF's matches that really remind you what the essence of wrestling is/was

“Basement mark with a sock on his head.” 😂😂😂
That line killed me 😂
I thought this was a pretty good match. One of Adam Cole's best matches since coming to AEW
Pretty good ? It was fucking amazing. Why the FUCK are you trying to act cool and play it down ?
Im trying to figure out what the running the ropes move at 18:30 is he's talking about
@@greghuffman3061when each men were trading blows, they both turned their back while their opponent was just standing there giving them the opportunity to attack them from behind. It makes it look less realistic and Jim wasn’t a fan of it.
@@jonathancartwheelfruitloop3071 He's never been a fan of turning your back on your opponent in order to run into the ropes. Basically, u have a guy standing there looking stupid while his opponent turns his back. Where if it was a real fight u would run up and hit your opponent in the back of the head when he turns his back
@@bootneyfarnsworth2844 Yup. Convoluted wrestling wring physics 101
To be fair, there were time calls. 15 minutes in Justin Roberts called it, being so low in the mix it was barely audible though.
I heard it too, and then I realised that they were definitely going to do a time-limit draw, lol
Put Adam Cole in a Giant Gonzalez style body suit with airbrushed muscles. He could be "Midget Gonzalez"!
Listening to all of the pointers Corny has for these matches makes me wish he was an agent for AEW & also wish the wrestlers in AEW actually listened to the agents.
Best part of AEW to me is the idea that these guys once popped a crowd of 15 people at a PWG show so they have the business figured out 😆
Man stfu, if he wanted to be involved in that shit show he would but he doesn’t because it’s a SHIT SHOW!!😂😂😂😂
MJF made Adam Cole look exponentially better than he has actually been the past two years. No spamming moves, no spamming false finishes. Adam didn't sell his arm effectively. Like, dude, this guy's been killing your arm and you sell for all of five seconds, then just get back up and start doing stuff with it like it never happened.
Well he was injured most of that time. There’s not much of a reference to say he made him look better.
@@jasonalexander7089 he’s doing that little stable feud
Sadly i think Cole career over in terms of wrestling. He didn't look like he used too. something wrong...
@@jasonalexander7089 if Jim sees this comment we’re getting at least 15 minutes on the next show explaining why Moxley is trash.
Cole was selling his arm quite a bit
Adam Cole is Smaller and Less Imposing than Orange Cassidy ….
Let that sink in. 🕳
He’s smaller and less imposing than Brodie Lee Jr…let that sink in…now think about how much worse things will be once that kid hits puberty
mrpink99 I saw a clip of brodie Jr a couple weeks ago and that kid literally grew a foot and a half in a year. Probably helps that his dad was a legit 6ft 5 unit and his mom is 6ft tall and not wimpy herself. Kids probably gonna be a Brickhouse.
@@chroniclesofnigeria1358 He was looking healthy and jacked at Mania itself. Remember, he was the ‘little’ kid that Cody gave his strap to before the main event.
@@mrpink99Agreed
I was in attendance for this match… man did the crowd love it. A great way to start the show
This match was good then the rest happened
Did I hear right around the 15min mark they announced it in the arena right?
I was there as well. It was a great match to see live. I didn’t care much for the show after that though.
@@202Kev I was there until the ROH match with Penta, Fenix, and Hijo Del Vikingo.. which didn’t end until 12:00 AM lol. I didn’t get back home until 2:00 AM
The one thing I like about New Japan is that they call time. And when it gets close to the time limit, the announcer gets more frantic, and so do the wrestlers.
Yep. Stardom does this too. 😉 (They even have a music theme for a draw. 😂)
Watching an MJF match, as a long time wrestling fan, you can see that he is a long time wrestling fan but he is also a student of the wrestling industry period. On the mic, in the ring, how he walks, how he conducts himself, one of if not the best in the business right now! 100% agree with Jim's assessment of Excalibur, he does need to calm down a bit, slow down talking a bit and watch the monitor! Call the play by play! A great play by play commentator can make a good match great, or a mediocre match good. Not calling out the time was a big miss along with the Ref being out of place on the one count that really mattered! I do HOPE that those involved in the match both on and off screen takes these constructive criticisms seriously and not get butthurt over it, it's all in love of wrestling!
True about the mjf party you can tell that he really studied the best of the best extensively. Honestly for the modern day wrestler i think he is the perfect one some other wrestlers should be inspired by because he really takes this shit seriously
You're a Jew defending a fellow.
"Or he has a big Britt baker" actually made me laugh out loud
The fan with the hat was over the moon. Because he knew within 30 minutes he would be backstage with ringside seats for the next three AEW shows
..and a burger...gotta fill those seats...
Has Jim ever did a clip this long on just one match? Soon as I saw the length I was like holy smoke
He needed the time to explain how to build the crowd when using a time limit. Fantastic stuff
Hmm? You must be new here
@@robbymarton74 I mean a single match. I know he's done longer clips on other topics
I think so, I just can't remember which
Stadium Stampede,Royal Rumble 92.
They should have a last minute warning announcement by the time keeper. Or something to build suspense
Completely disagree. When they announce it then it builds nothing because you know why they are doing it. Constantly telling you oh there is only 10 mins left… 5 left … 2 left… 1 left… you know the draw is coming.
Doing it like this was great as I was like holy fuck they are havig MJF lose… then the bell goes and I was like wait what?! Then celebrated when I realised what happened. Much better than having them constantly tell you that time is running out because you know it’ll be a draw.
@@James9399_ That's not true if you do finishes at the last second. Imagine like in football having the last minute goal. I think having a victory at the last seconds gives a bigger reaction from the crowd. I would put the time on every match at corner of TV and on screen. It gives that sport feel and adrenaline of last moments.
@@emanuelfer456 no and no , its wrestling, not basketball
@@emanuelfer456 right but you’re talking in the grand scheme. Which yeah, in the bigger picture they should announce time so you never know when the draw is coming. But they don’t do that so if they did it last night you’d know oh the draw is coming.
But yeah, big picture they should do it every match because then those matches that go near the time limit would be much more exciting
@@laregalade3069 think of it this way: wrestling is supposed to be emulating a combat sport, if every match has a timer in the corner you don't need to call it out and if its a constant thing they did for every match not only something they do when they have a draw so you get those exiting last second ko or sub finnishes
These are the type of reviews that those who despise Jim seem to be completely blind to. They retain this idea that he’s irrational and unfair in his criticisms. Which I think couldn’t be further from the truth. I listen often, and hear these sorts of fair and balanced takes from Jim more often than not.
Eh, you can tell he's gritting his teeth. It gets hard for him when the targets that get him clicks faces off against his 'favourites'. Whatever credibility he had with even his biggest fans should have taken a huge hit by the amount of time he's dedicated to the AEW video game. Something he doesn't care about clearly, but knows having another element to attack AEW will get those clicks.
@@johnnymittleDude shut up lol. It’s a show, and the audience likes listening to them talk about something out of their element, not just AEW hate (which they have earned).
Jim is fair when it's one of his favourites but a guy like Pockets will never get a fair review.
@@erikiceberg Not earned in any way shape or form. That's what makes it click bait.
@@johnnymittle In what way have they presented their show professionally, or as a JOKE. MJF brought out the Adam Cole in Adam Cole in this match.. I know he's had concussion problems, but, since he came to AEW, this was his best match as they've dropped the ball with him vs the Elite at that one point.
Felt like Cole was completely outclassed the majority of the match. He’s older and probably not had a chance to workout much I guess, but I felt like for the first 20 mins or so MJF looked like the much higher caliber talent

Yeah but they over did it!!
MJF sells the knee literally every time he does that apron tombstone though
Oh shit he yells that everytime makes me smile😂
This has to be one of the greatest breakdowns and critiques of a match I’ve ever heard before. This wasn’t just a fast lazy play by play summary. Corny passionately broke this shit down to its core both good and bad
TK is booking Dynamite like a TNA carbon copy. Having a time limit draw without even referencing a time limit throughout the match is a TNA thing.
Justin Roberts introduce every singles match as 30 mins & title match as 60 min.
@@abinalex8922I don't remember hearing about a time limit being said before the match
Everything MJF is involved in turns out to be great, he is that special
They did actually call 10 minutes left, for the record. Although I agree with Jim that they should call the time in every match with a stated time limit.
Glad I wasn't the only one that heard it...was scrolling through these comments hoping I wasn't crazy after I posted the same thing lol!

The time call is also useful other ways. If I am told “give me eight and pin him dirty,” I can start estimating the go-home when they call “5 minutes elapsed.”
Basement mark with a sock on his head. Damn, Jim has a way with words.
"But Adam Cole had a concussion" so why the hell did he take a piledriver on the apron and and elbow drop through the table 🤔 😅 GET HIS ASS TO THE GYM 🏋️♂️ WTF 😂
Bryan Danielson has 2 draws in AEW. One vs Hangman Adam Page, another vs Kenny Omega. Both Heavyweight title matches too. Surprised Cornette didn't know that.
Right? His memory's not so good any more. Moxley and PAC also had a time limit draw and so did Orange Cassidy and Cody.
Omega was the champion but it was not a title match
I genuinely thought Adam was hurt for real just the way MJF was talking to the ref and the ref checking on him, I don't think they knew for a few mins for definite that's why it took so long for the match to get going again. Just my take on it. I may be wrong.
When Aew first started, I was so looking forward to the possibility of "rules, records, standings" making their way back to wrestling...
To answer Brian's question, yes M. night still makes movies and his" latest and greatest," movie he made Dave Bautista was in it.
Just saw that movie last week. Dave was pretty good in it I thought
@@chico1680 I haven’t seen it, but the handful of movies I’ve seen with him, he’s generally been good or really good.
At the 10-minute Mark there was a time call. It was announced to the live crowd and it was so nonchalant but I picked up on it
MJF is such a genius for just putting together a highlight reel of his best old PPV spots to do on television. Anyone who wanted to see it has (and if they're like me, enjoyed the callback) and anyone who hasn't was amazed. Dude has a 200 IQ sometimes.
Always
30+ min review of a match and no 12 min ad read jibber jabber 😂 rare!
World Class Championship Wrestling was great for doing this and not just in title matches. It added intrigue to even the opening match .
Nice call on the time call..I was so confused at the end, and you summed up exactly why I felt that way!
Can’t wait for the collision review.
Surprised neither Jim nor Brian remember the Cody Rhodes/Darby Allin match going to a time limit draw. May have only stuck with me because it was the very first AEW match I’d ever watched at that point, though.
Bryan Vs hangman 1 was a draw too as well as the Kenny match
They actually did call the time, I heard it at like the 20 minute mark. That's actually how I knew it was going to be a time limit draw because they don't call the time unless it's going to be a draw. So yeah, that actually did telegraph the finish for me.
Well, this gonna be a good long ride lol
Good review of the match, but there were 2 time calls over the building speakers that could be heard on TV (at least on my feed) for 10 and 20 minutes elapsed.
They actually do time calls in NJPW every 5 minutes.
Does it surprise you that AEW doesn't do that, considering Tony Khan formed AEW with then NJPW/ROH wrestlers?
@@sigmablock No. Like Jim said, doing time calls has fallen out of fashion over here and I don't think Justin Roberts has ever worked with a promotion that has done time calls in pro wrestling.
We really need to bring this back, and it's never been easier to do with everybody having a cellphone that has a clock on it so you can keep time with just a couple taps of a button.
they did call the 15min mark but like how it was in the Danielson vs Omega match, it doesn't sound that clear when they do it and they didn't even call the last minute or so for this one.
it would be nice if they called the times for every match cause it does kinda give it away when the only times they do call the time increments is when they're doing a time limit draw.
The match between MJF and Adam Cole was spectacular from start to finish. TK better keep MJF as long as can because "St. Nick" will be ready in 2024.😂
Or MJF might say screw both of them and go Hollywood full time
Jokes on all of us, MJF contract expiration is 2024....December, not January.

I thought Andrade vs Buddy Matthews on Collision was better, but this match was great

Well called, J.C. It was a really good match (although I don't really "like" either wrestler all that much). Actually I kind of liked the ending because It seemed a little more legitimate than matches which just "happen" to end on a two count with the refs hand coming down.
Adam Cole looked like a high school kid at the community pool. But the match was really excellent.

Urgency is the word of the day thats missing in most matches now . Amongst other things . But if something feels urgent its almost always more exciting . But like Jim said to an extent , you got to condition your fans to thinking time calls are a normal rule , not just in certain matches . Or then it WOULD be obvious like Gabe said .
I rewatched the match again, Justin Robert's did actually mention they were 20 minutes in
They did announce the time limit for the match. Right at the start and there are announcements in the arena by Justin Roberts or Dasha. It is also on the video screens at AEW shows. I was there.
I think they want the time calls for the match more than just the initial announcements. Despite its current state, NJPW still does time calls.
@@DarkNorthEmperor Exiled_Rouge is saying they did all the calls in the arena. The audio for the arena mics were either not tied into the TV feed, or the announcers made the 10:00, 5:00 and 1:00 calls during a PIP commercial break during Dynamite. They should've at least put up the graphic of the timer Rouge and the rest of the audience got to see on the AEW-Jaguartron (Jaguars cause tony doesn't own the Tennessee Titans)
@@teecakes I stand corrected 🤝
They announced it in the arena there are 10 minutes remaining in the match but you would have had to have your TV turned up pretty loud
I like to think Tony had no idea about that Vince elbow pad. Ha.
They do time calls on NWA, when a match is timed. It’s announced on the mic.
When youtube decides to play a commercial 15 mins into this clip... right after Jim talked about this matches break spot coming 13 mins in... well I guess I'm invested now, I'm gonna have to finish this clip :D :D :D
Yeah i dunno if your audio issues were to blame but on fite i definitely heard the time calls in the arena
I was there live. There was at least one time call at the 20 minute mark but just Roberts said very fast and his mic was low. It’s almost like the wanted to announce them but discreetly to still surprise everyone at the end.
what's interesting is that when aew first started they had time calls and then after the 1st year or so that just stopped
I actually enjoyed this episode of Dynamite. I skipped the last match though. Collision was pretty good too. I enjoyed Punk's match but I was also really into the Andrade/Buddy match. I could have done without that ending though.

I heard one time call. I think it was 10 minutes remaining, but I’m not sure because it was announced in the arena not TV. Either way they need to really hammer home “5 minutes remaining” and down even if it doesn’t end in a time limit draw. If it happens only 5% of the time the announcers drawing attention to it will keep the audience on edge
You make the analogy about wanting to sit through a movie and endure everything but then on the other show, you fast-forward through everything and you ask yourself what's going on? Well because you fast-forward through everything that's why you're lost.
The finish was brilliant. I was completely on the hook for the Cole win. And I like that they didn’t announce it as the match got near the end because when they do that you know the fix is in so to speak.
Adam Cole hit his peak in NXT
41 mins ? Must be a classic.
MJF is the Prince of Persia
Some of the most exciting seconds of a UFC fight is at the end of the final round when the fighter who is going to lose on the judge’s decision to score a KO to steal a win.
A detail most of the comments seem to have missed. Re: time limit at around the 28:00 minute mark, NJPW actually does this in all of their matches. I am actually surprised that AEW doesn't let Justin Roberts announce time calls. Try watching one of Tanahashi vs Okada's matches in the one of the previous G1 Climax series, a very prominent example of a good match reaching draw.
Come to think of it, if MJF and Adam Cole had a match sanctioned by NJPW, it would've been a tense but fun match hearing time calls at 10 minutes, 5 minutes, and 1 minute remaining. Considering AEW was founded by then NJPW/ROH talent, the lack of this detail again, a SURPRISE.
By announcing the time, the crowd would know the finish. Jim is totally wrong about the finish. Also wrong about showing urgency after a guy just wrestled for 30 minutes. Not realistic at all but I guess that makes sense because he doesn’t actually analyze AEW.
The entire time I was watching the match I was thinking “Atom Cole couldn’t beat Orange Cassidy with help, but he’s toe to toe with the champ?”. AEW books in reverse!
Tony Khan is “Backwards Man” Tom Green but somehow dumber!
This is the second time Tony made MJF look weak the first time was when he wrestled Takeshit before that match Takeshit had lost every match he has had on television until the week before his match with MJF that's when he got his first win on television and somehow it took MJF 16 minutes to beat him when the match should had lasted 5 minutes top and it should has been MJF giving Takeshit a wrestling class for 4:50 of that match I would have given Takeshit only 10 seconds of offense and the rest of the match should has been MJF out wrestling Takeshit that's the problem with Tony he doesn't know how to book champions not every match has to be competitive let the champion squash opponents every now and then
When they hit the time limit, I was confused. Had to rewind and see if they ever mentioned it
Brian is right. They should redo Adam Coles Gimmick. Make him a heel with a bodyguard. Maybe someone big like Keith Lee to really push the parallel of both sides of guys who never go to the gym. Maybe use those pro skills and make him a manager and put a faction around him. Then just shave his head and change his name to something more fitting to the gimmick. The whole Sodo-surfer look and Adam Cole Bay Bay would have to go.

I saw this match more or less live and legitimately thought the finish was an angle. They should do a better job of emphasizing the time limit.
If they do that though, that gives away the finish ahead of time.
@@projectgraham414 Not if they announce time limits in every match.

That's the first Cole match I have seen in a few years. Wow he is looking rough. He seems fit enough, but his physique is completely gone. Normally I don't notice physique, but this was so distracting. He looked smaller than some of the jobbers you used to get in the early 90s.
I feel really bad for him, as so many injuries seems to have added up over the years and destroyed his workout regime.
The size people keep clamoring him to return too (ROH), was him at his most unhealthiest he said.

I thought this match was so good and had me in the edge of my seat! The finish was executed perfectly too imo. I love hearing Jim’s breakdown of matches, it’s fascinating, but he always notices things that I don’t think normal fans realize.
also, to be fair, Justin Roberts did do some time calls, it’s just very hard to hear him for some reason during matches they have to mic him better because he sounds like a damn muffled robot

MJF is certainly the strongest in ring talent AEW has now. He has a great mind and genuine passion for the business and his old school heel style just makes him excel because it is classic wrestling which has worked to get over for decades.
