This year was time to change my bike which I do every two years, my last two bikes were Triumph Street Triple RSs, so I thought maybe a change of make was due, I road tested all the bikes covered with the exception of the Aprilia's as IMO they don't belong in this class also the only monster available was the SP which I found too tall but I also was able to ride the Triumph Moto 2 as one of the mechanics at my Triumph dealership had bought one and kindly let me spend an hour on it, first off was the Kawasaki Z900RS, which is a lovely bike, so smooth and really comfortable but it's weight and high seat height ruled it out for me, (being a short 5"6" with just a 29" in seam) on paper the Z900 isn't the tallest at 820mm but it's much broader than the rest making the stretch harder, the KTM890R is probably the most fun or close to it and I know looks are subjective but I just really dislike its in your face looks and reliability is also suspect, I got just 40 minutes on the MV Brutale which IMO is a work of art and on A roads and back roads it handles like a race bike but in town the fueling is quite jerky, so it came down to the MT-09SP or the new Street Triple RS, both are brilliant with a soundtrack to match and if it had been the 2022 RS V the MT it would've been a toss up but I could'nt believe how much better Triumph have improved what was already a great bike, the handling is sharper but still planted and the shorter gearing has really boosted low and mid range acceleration and the new top of the range brakes (Brembo Stylemas) have to be experienced to be believed, all in all a tremendous bike which has raised the middleweight bar once again and the cosmic yellow colour I chose is the cherry on the cake for me but I did opt for the 28mm lower seat to counteract the rise in seat height. incidentally the Moto 2 was much the same as the RS but just a much more extreme riding position.

i went with the z900. i love the seating position and feel of it. its smooth as butter, and with a few mods (like most bikes) you can open up the potential. it was between that and the mt09, and after getting some seat time on each i knew what one worked for me.

Imo despite being the weakest, I'd still call it a hypernaked. 143 horsepower is only 7 behind the suzuki and about 20 from yahmaha. And if you ask me, it's the best-looking bike of them all, I couldn't imagine and never will need that much power

People buy into the “SP” more than needed. It has a better suspension setup, but unlike every other manufacturer, it produces the same exact output. You’d be hard pressed to get any performance edge between the standard, which is on the list, and the SP. Unless a different paint scheme, bare swingarm and a gold suspension does it for you. Ridden both and ended up with the 890R.

For me it was down to the Street Triple RS or MT-09 SP. But, at least here in Sweden, the SP just got ridiculously expensive, and as i don't likegetting ripped off, i went with the Triumph. Also, i was very impressed with its suspension, very good at dealing with potholes, while at the same time firm and responsive.
