I was born in Brooklyn I remember the Dime bank which was really called the Dime Savings Bank, my mother put all her dimes in that bank, I guess because of the name. You would used to get a book and they would stamp you book when you made a deposit or withdrawal. I got interest from them too. I used it for years especially when I worked at Horn and Hardart in downtown Brooklyn. Not many Savings banks around any more, the saving banks went bankrupt when the mortgage debacle happened in 2008. Savings banks were just mortgage lenders, and gave pretty good interest on you savings.

@@missbehelpful who do you use for investments? What do you think from a customer perspective on Ally? Think you'll stick with Scheab for checking?
I'm curious from an investment perspective on the businesses. Ally is trading at a large discount to tangible book value, has grown deposits quite nicely over the last decade, has respectable returns and seems to have good future prospects. There is some hair because the auto side of the business as far as what writedowns and delinquencies may be... mostly though I want to get in the customers head, understand the qualitative side of things because from a quantifiable perspective (the numbers) the stock looks cheap.
Similar with Schwab. I'm a customer for the reasons you stated. I invest all of my nieces and nephiews money there as well as my own between them and TD (getting acquired by Schw). I like them for their accounts because non of the trades cost anything (like OTC stocks, TD still charges, Robbinhood doesn't offer many tickers...). I think SCHW looks attractive on a normalized basis, some day when interest rates normalize they will be making a lot of money in comparison to todays market cap. Also think they fit, so in the long run may soak up a bunch of investing accounts as the others fizzle out.

I use to have chase then switched to capital one because they were charging me fees for having less then a certain money amount on my account something like less than $1,500 and their savings interest sucked, I still have and really enjoy Capital One banking but I am now on my way to switching to Charles Schwab for the same reasons she described in the video mostly because of the no atm fees and with capital one you have to go to specific ones that work with them only and sometimes the atms are kinda far depending where you are for capital one.

I had BofA as my first bank account and they nickel and dimed me over everything. I said goodbye and took my auto loan with me. Went to Wells Fargo for awhile and then I learned about Crdit Unions. Found me a good one and been there ever since 2000. Never pay for ATM fees dur to the large network of co-ops they contract with. Have checking and liquid, quick access savings. I have two online savings with Ally and Barclays. I will sometimes move my long-term savings around to get better rates and sign up bonuses when they were offered. Now, nary a bonus in sight. 🤷‍♀️ Like you, my money is spread out and even a secret savings from the hubby. One never really knows, right? LOL, but not really. I don't have trust issues, but never depend on another for financial, mental, spiritual, or emotional stability. We are all fallible, including myself. I see it as earlier retirement if I want or need to. 😁
