It's hard to know where to store your cash and build savings for things like a car or home downpayment. I always recommend a HYSA (high yield savings account) and this bank offers one of the best.
Personally I’ve been using Ally and I’m really pleased with the experience so far.

I´ve been with Ally since 2012. Can't say enough good things about them (I took advantage of over drafting back in the day when things were not so good, never got charged an overdraft fee).

I love Ally! I use their buckets to divide Door Dash car maintenance and taxes.
AND I've bought all my CDs there for my CD ladder.

Wait until you need to contact customer service.
After now experiencing their customer service, I’m very disappointed. Terrible and unhelpful customer service agents.
After going back and forth with SOFI and Ally Bank, I decided to go with Ally Bank. I am retired and feel more comfortable using this bank since being around for many years. SOFI is a great bank and seems to cater to the younger generation. Really like Ally's buckets for future expenses like taxes, Christmas, birthdays and etc.
Both are great choices!
I love Ally! I recently Joined in June and I love their user friendly interface. The boosters and buckets are helpful and I have taken advantage of automation for my savings. I wish I found Ally sooner!🎉

Thanks for the video. I do use Ally and overall like it. I have had a issue on the checking side paying state taxes. I have to use my other bank for that. Otherwise everything is fine.

This might sound like a silly question, but does Ally accept Social Security monthly e-deposits ? Looking for a new bank and will need to have this option. Do they offer paper checks ? Thanks !

I like Ally a lot, obviously! I've also had good experiences with Capital One.
I've had ally for a while now. At one time I had too many Bank accounts. I reduced to ally and NFCU. NFCU has better CDs since you can add as often as you like, not just intial deposit and maturity.
I think Ally is best when used with a traditional bank.
I do like being able to use any ATM and they will refund the fee up to 10.00 per month
I was getting some glitches during transfer edits. Most have been fixed...i still get "unexpected error" message but the transfer still changes with edit.
What about the Money Market Accounts??? I hear so many people talking about MMAs.
It’s a similar type of account that pays a higher rate and you can have a check/debit card but they usually limit the number of transactions you can make by check or debit card and have different rules. Some banks also have minimum deposit requirements on them. They require a larger amount in the account to get the better rate. It varies between banks. It might be a good fit for you but it depends on what your goals are and how you will be using the account because of the differences.

Ally Bank is great but it’s annoying that their debit card isn’t a “Tap to Pay” card using NFC like the other debit cards I have b/c not all places I shop have NFC terminals where I can use Apple Pay.
That does sound annoying! Definitely a downside for people to consider.
I was annoyed by this too, but if you order a new debit card, it is now ttp 😊

usually if a payment transfer/purchase doesn't go through its usually a payment processor error. If Ally didn't see anything wrong with your account no blocks etc that's a common issue that happens where the process of a payment being transferred to the next destination doesn't complete or had an error along the way. Therefore it wasn't completed correctly and usually trying again fixes the issue. Just think of it as a card reader and you swipe your card too fast or it takes 2 or 3 tries for it to finally read your purchase. its the same thing basically.
Yep just annoying they didn’t have an explanation, as I try to have one interaction with customer service before doing reviews on things. But all good!

Would you suggest savings or MONEY MARKET? For money to grow. I want access to it but I am not going to touch it.
You can earn slightly more with most money market accounts. A lot will have minimum required balances to get the rate but Ally does have a MMA with no minimum balance. If you need access then go money market… most people honestly need less access to savings so they won’t spend it. 😆
Does Ally work in Puerto Rico ?
It says you can use ATMs there but I can’t find where it says specifically so I’ve sent an email to ask! Will let you know if they respond!
Even though I have had an Ally savings account for a long time, I just moved all my banking to them. So, I'm not using their checking for paycheck direct deposit and bill pay. The transition was fairly seamless. The only thing I've not been impressed with is the bill pay. It doesn't debit against the account right away so it was showing a larger balance than I actually had for three full days and was totally throwing off my budgeting app. I haven't found a lot of info/videos on Ally's bill pay. Thoughts? Suggestions?
I never used bill pay but that sounds very annoying that it takes three days to actually show the money removed. Since it’s bill pay within Ally you would think the balance could reflect instantly. Perhaps no one uses it so they haven’t made many changes to make it better. Sorry I don’t have more info!
