    My best money move has been finally getting banked. I made poor decisions in the past, got two accounts closed, a negative chex systems report and eventually black listed from many financial institutions. For years I handled cash only, usually paying large fees to cash checks and third party bill pay. I made myself feel better by believing I was moving contrary to sociteal norms, big Banks were criminal, blahzay blah. A few months back the whole #bankblack movement was trending which got me familiar with One United. More recently I discovered that they offer a U2 second chance checking. Lo and behold I secured that checking account with One United which prompted me to open a high interest savings with Discover. I identify with most of your list Yanely and I'm super excited for what's to come. I appreciate the value your giving. I'm riding with you!

    What has helped me get control of my money is a no spend, period. I make it a point to pay my bills and reconcile my bank account every Friday. I pay the absolute maximum on my debt, until it is paid off. I don't purchase anything, unless I need it. I reuse everything. I use cash for everything. Being intentional with my money and saving allows me to sleep comfortably every night 🌙 😌 😴

    The biggest part of starting early on retirement is that not only will you come out better, but its much easier. You can save at a much lower amount per month than us older folks and still be better off just because of the compounding over time..

      Exactly! But when you're young and spending it all - every dollar seems like you need it for something else that you think you need. Been there done that and wish I hadn't!

    808. Way to go girl. BTW, I watch and enjoy tons of You Tube channels. You’re the only one I have subscribed to. Take that for what it’s worth. I was very good with my money when I was young and it’s paying off now. But I wish I was as smart as you at your age. I would really be balling.

    I only have 4 years with my first credit card, and I could have probably opened it early but didn't like the aspect of using money that wasn't really mine. I hate borrowing, but then I realized how important credit is when making large purchases, credit scores and such. Right now, I'm working on having 2 more for next year to have a grand total of 6, I'll probably apply for them after I finish buying my first house 😆😂 This sure is going to be an experience. Happy 2019 btw 😎😉

    Ok my situation is I just paid off my credit card I only have one, I’ve had it for 2 years (capital one). The entire 2 years I owed the limit and was paying only minimum. I recently just paid it all off and my interest rate is high 26.49% . I’m asking if I should open a new credit card with my credit union and cancel this capital one. Will it affect my credit? Does the length of the card matter at all? And I for sure know I will get a lower interest rates with my bank by 10%.

    What are your thoughts on credit unions VS banks?

    • @missbehelpful
      @missbehelpful  Před 6 lety +1

      Credit Unions offer lower fees and are in your best interest if you have a local one, but banks are more convenient locations - so depends on your needs. Thanks!

    Great info; however, Credit Karma does not provide real credit scores.Thus, they can only be used as a guide or educational score based on Vintage score 3.0 ( no major lenders use this model). You have to pull your real scores from myfico.com or from a credit card issuer who offers free FICO scores like Discover for an example. One can have an 800 on credit karma and their real scores can be close, or 50-80 point difference. So, credit karma is fine for a guide and credit monitoring - but not for accurate credit scores, because it is not a FICO model. I will say Vintage 3.0 is very close to the old FICO 4 or 5 model which is still used for mortgages. It rates the last two years of credit history and collection accounts heavily.

    • @missbehelpful
      @missbehelpful  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah, this is true! But since Credit Karma gets information from TransUnion and Equifax, two of the three major credit bureaus. VantageScore is a combo of all the information in your files with the 3 bureaus. Credit Karma uses VantageScore because they collaborate with the credit bureaus and FICO will not share score with anybody because that's like giving away your secret sauce!
