Andrew Fung was born in 1988 (Turning 38). NOT GenZ.
His point is not that he is genz but that millennials can understand genz better then boomers
Umm I’m also 1988 and I’m 35 years old. No need to speed up our aging lol
It's 2024. Yes he is TURNing 38 but not for another 2 years. By that logic everyone below the age of 38 are turning 38.
Seems to me, Andrew is doing his best to avoid admitting he’s a millennial.
He is scared he is about to turn 40 soon Lol!
Millennial here . Yes we and Gen z and Gen X are screwed. There is no way to afford housing anymore. The cost of housing gets higher and higher every year. College is also completely unaffordable and gets more expensive every year . We need a a national healthcare and medical care system like the EU. We need affordable housing
Gen X is fairly successful. My managers is Gen X
I agree with you but a lot of Gen X people in the comments are saying they feel screwed over financially too.
EU could do it bc they don’t have a military like the US. The issue is.. if US is not the superpower. You will have not the freedom you have today, this includes the entire west. China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and the Muslim world would behave far differently. On the other hand, Europeans don’t have a consumerism mindset and far less flashy. Products are far more expensive. Percentage of college grads are also much lower. If you are ok making 120k/yr as a medical doctor driving a VW living in a 1000sq ft home, then ok.
@@mmfong297I understand the fear of BRICS taking over, but then what is the solution. Our living situations rn are slowly starting to mirror that of Asian nations anyways. Children and parents all under one roof, working endless hours for pennies to our dollar.
Kinda feels like the only benefit we see these days is not disappearing for expressing dissatisfaction. Which I agree is great, but still- how can we improve…
Communism Doesn’t Work
(1:24) Basically, a person with nothing to lose is the most dangerous type of person.
Facts & soon people will stop asking they’ll start to take, sad but true!!!
GenX here- many of us don't even own a home still, yet alone more than 1. we were the first generation to get screwed, and it's been downhill since then. Yes, the wealthy have been accumulating more wealth, and it benefits only the 1%. Universal healthcare and education (including higher education) fall under general welfare. I'd like to see free healthcare and higher education, similar to the EU for folks in the US. it would benefit young folks, as they could immediately start saving and investing their earnings right after college or trade school, rather than having it all go to back to pay massive outstanding loans.
Saw Scott's TED Talk yesterday, glad to see u guys covering it on your channel
Ok tread lightly with Gen X. We don’t play!! 🤣😅🤣 No seriously, we (Gen X) have gotten it from both the older and younger generations. At the end of the day, this is NOT about generations. THIS IS ABOUT CORPORATIONS. They wanna keep us fighting amongst ourselves while they do what they have always done. They are just even bolder now and don’t give a 🤬. Thanks for the video! 🙏🏾🥰
Exactly! It’s the corporations!
I agree it is the corporations.
Their strategy: Divide & Conquer
I’m a Gen X millennial, but I actively pursued music. I had a lot of cool experiences, got paid a little, but I went back to college. Aside from generational factors, I think some people have more practical personalities. Right now I’m trying to find a balance between my artistic idealistic side & practical needs.
And what to do when housing is going to be half a million dollars everywhere, minimum?
@@Shadowboost An entire generation will be forced to become lifelong renters with lifelong roommates. Split-ramen, rice, and beans with each other. The new American dream.
good vid but why does andrew call himself a genz? he's born in '88 which is right in the middle of the millenial age group. Genz is 1997-2012
Danggggg, he needs to respond to the controversy!!!
LMAO I had to play that back to make sure I wasn't hearing things.
I can’t believe he even thinks he’s close to gen z. Anything born after 1980 and before 1990 is quintessential millennial.
He likes to think he is young. I tell plp that I'm closer to millennial all the time. 😅
1980 is a genXer
Gen Z might be the biggest Homeless crisis 20 years from now.
I watched his TED talk, and it was excellent
Pretty high level discussion here. This identifies the issue. Rich people have too many advantages and this makes it hard for people at the middle or bottom of the economic pyramid to maintain their status or improve their status. Social media has also failed the new generation by directing our attention to buying things and impressing others, even if things put us in a worse financial situation. We see a very small percentage of the world flex on us through IG and CZcams, and we convince ourselves that we can be like them if we try and look like them. However, the reality is that they can flex this lifestyle because of hard work and determination, inherited wealth, or nepotism. As visual consumers of social media, we fail to realize this and think that we are entitled to a rich flex life. It is up to us to provide a solution for ourselves via being financially responsible, saving and investing, not living to impress others, and to stop consuming so much. We gotta take these actions to counteract the consequences of hyper capitalism.
Boomer Dad and Granddad here.... I think that a lot of you just don't get it. What makes a person's life "winning" is the love and respect of his family. I don't care how lousy a person's job is, when their husband or wife and children need them and look up to them, they win. You don't need a lot of money for that.
The problem is not that there is bad economics, it is that the world has made people unloving and unlovable.
(And as far as spending money on wars [7:40] vs helping Americans... fighting wars is in the government's job jar. "Helping" people is not. [Or it shouldn't be... you have parents, children, neighbors, churches, and benevolent societies for that.])
Bad economics leads to many bad things. You can't tell if it's really the problem or a contributing factor or not. You are the one who don't get it because your generation is the one who own the wealth.
Explain that to me. What happened in the world to make people unlovable?
Yeah, I saw this TED Talk and it opened my eyes.
Gen x here. We literally had it the worst.
The generation after us (gen alpha) might have it even worse than us.
That's bullshit, your generation just had a bunch of unprotected sex
Gen Z got screwed by the Boomer generation and now comes Ai to make it worse.
I think AI will make things better. But yes, boomers aren't helpful...
The reason why the economy is the way it is is because of deregulation. We had laws in place that protected the average consumer, the wage earners, and the poor. In other words we were much more socialist before the year 2000. Due to deregulation, the housing market and banking industry has victimized mostly the millennials and Gen Z as well as some Gen X who had a late start in life.
Republican policies...always scking off the rich.
The older generation benefitted from virgin land and revolutionary innovations. Even an old millennial like myself cannot find a new home in the same neighborhood I grew up in. The old neighborhood was virgin land in area that is close to job centers. The boomers had huge opportunities that are now gone.
"You are screwed, Gen Z"
"Ok boomer"
Thanks for sharing this man
What we have is regulated bubble capitalism... the regulated economy prevents what normally is a bubble economy from going from boom to bust. In a regular bubble economy, during a bust capital/wealth is disrupted and redistributed. by prevent the bust -... very little wealth is redistributed and ... opportunities to make money are more sparse because there are fewer economic booms ... Economic booms are generated by Economic busts. So what Gen Zers have is something less exciting. The 13 colonies and the USA had depended on growing by supporting big money capitalism. For Gen Z my advice is to stay mobile and follow the money where ever it takes you since people who like you will pay you well enough to keep you around.
😂 Lol! Bald Ryan Reynolds!
I just love how Gen-X like myself are being ignored constantly when it comes to generation argument. But I'm cool with that since we're use to being ignore on every other subjects. 😅
Scott Galloway is Gen X though.
@@x01021 Yes, but he didn't talk about Gen-X.... 🤣
@@Bluboy30 I’ve been following his recent appearances and he talks about Gen X mainly in terms of being the parents of Gen Z and having a duty to support the youth. As an older millennial (I’m 35) I can get behind this.
@@x01021 I don't know who this person is until I watched this video. But good for him. I don't have kids but I agree, if you have kids, you should take care of them.
@@Bluboy30 yeah he’s made a few appearances on Ted talks, CNN, Bill Maher. But he’s recently gone viral with this book about how America has basically betrayed the young. He is actually an MBA professor at NYU Stern, pretty smart guy.
Holy shit I just realized the OPs are about the same age as me, bro we older Asians man, we just trying to act young because our genes lol.
Inflation is due to over-regulation and over-spending. Gen Z voted for the party of over-regulation and over-spending in 2020.
Over regulation,lol
@@tylerharris4392 What do you think happens to fast food prices when Democrats in California raise the minimum wage to $20/hour? What do you think happens to home prices when Democrats in California require new homes to use renewable energy (solar panels)?
You will own nothing and be happy. Klaus by design.
So what is the solution definitely not communism right?
Every Communist country is 3rd World. There is no such thing as a 1st World Communist country.
I’m an older millennial, I feel like I made it on the last boat out looking back to the coast on fire…
Im 42. Feels like I just missed the boat.
Made it on the same boat. But if we don't want to be surrounded by fire, gotta solve this problem. If it's even solvable at this point
David that hoodie is hard 🔥🔥🔥
They got screwed by people like him you trusted the professor's and the university i don't have a degree i just worked hard physical work for low money 💵 and get on with it welcome to the real world 😊 !
The problem is many million/ billion dollar businesses prioritized money too much to the extent that they pushed out smaller businesses & will do just about anything corrupt to see their business continue
As a gen x, I understand both sides. So I don’t blame either of them.
It’s called a pyramid scheme the money flows upward
In 2008 mellenials were doomers, outlooks change depending on economic cycle
Wtf? Millennials are still doomers.
it doesn't have to be 'socialism' but there have to be governmental interventions. ask europe.
There is always aspects of socialism and capitalism together.
Just don't label things as binary.
Every taxation is "redistribution of wealth."
There needs to be balance, and the optimal balance point is not fixed. It changes depending on the situation of the times.
@@lethalfangSocialism & Capitalism Can’t & Won’t Mix
How is it capitalism when interest rates were rigged to be near zero for over a decade . Why is it surprising that investors went into real estate at such a low return of cash and low cost to borrow 😊
Wealthy people don't have enough money. The poor & working class have to much, and need to give some up. Like we are in upside down world. A sign of to much greed.
Wth shush
Capitalism is not designed to address wealth inequality, social welfare, anarchy, and eventually the collapse of the system itself.
Capitalism is very short term...it's not a long lasting system. Rich people and businesses usually just multiply. I'm seeing it in the movid industry....Disney bought Fox and Sony may buy Paramount. Google with search engines. Amazon with online retail and cloud computing.
what?? but we were taught from young that western free market capitalism is the most efficient economic system that will raise everyone's standard of life.
Btw people are the biggest problem but since we cannot change people we must change the system that influences people to do some of the most corrupt things. Therefore, Capitalism must go or we must create something NEW
Is capitalism a great system or evil system? I dunno 🤔. Will the next generation suffer even more, could be. I know many people are suffering now. ,21 century now but still using the rome empire method to solve conflicts and issues.
It’s not the doing of Boomers for why GenZ doesn’t have as much as previous generations in their 20s and 30s. It’s debt ... specifically, college debt. They can’t get anywhere starting out massively indebted. They’re not starting at zero. They’re in the very deep negative numbers just trying to claw their way up to 0.
Nope. Boomers had the greatest wealth creation in history. What to do with it? Buy assets and property. It has literally put housing out of reach for the younger generation. Now corporations are doing the same, buying blocks of rentals and houses and putting them at outrageous prices. Why? Because they're investments and the land price will go up anyways. It's unsolvable until you address the wealth inequality and death of the middle class
Boomers created the economy where you have to have a college education for everything. They grew up in a world where you didn't.
What did they major in? Should have picked wisely
ugh gen z lol im good
What’s your problem?😂
@@antoniobabb1938 gen z have mood swings
Building wealth takes a certain mindset. Its focus and determination. Majority people no matter what generation you are in don't have this mindset. Younger generation live in the moment, living life to the fullest, lazy, and entitled. It's the fault of the Gen X and boomers who's parent to these millennial and Gen Z. These older parent spoiled their kids and tell them to do what they feel passionate about. Instead of teaching these kids about the value of money. Once you achieved wealth you can truly have financial freedom.
It's harder to become rich now because of advancment in technology and change in retail. At the most, the average person can only open up a convenience store and restaurant. Other businesses have been driven our by retailers like Amazon and Walmart. The middle class is decreasing becaue more people are going into uppper and lower class. You need to be more educated and knowledgeable th an ever to be upper class.
so you are saying that the same boomer generation that has been incessantly preaching and lecturing the younger generation about knowing the value of money and hard work and not being lazy and working harder till their ears burn out, are actually not lecturing these same kids enough about the value of money and to stop being lazy and working harder.
@jjsamuelgunn1136 lecturing these kids whether they listen or not is up to them. Some kids know how rich their parents are, so they either mutch off their parents until they can inherit the wealth. Or those who have a certain mindset can make more money to build generational wealth. Most kids nowadays believe in work-life balance. They want to enjoy life more, travel more, and experience more, which in turn cause you to have less savings and fewer investments.
@P.90.603 That's true. Then, you need to adapt to advanced technology and the changes in the industry. I'm 43. I grew up in a world without technology, and the minimum wage was 3.50 when I was a teenager. I learned to adapt and adjust. I learned how to invest and live below my means. Because I want to build generational wealth. By telling yourself it's just too hard...everything is so expensive...you are already on the wrong path by having that mindset.
@@lyndapham3683 You're trying to put it on individuals but i'm just being objective. We're heading into a society where things are more automated, less people are needed for jobs, and it's okay for half of the population to be poor and homeless. Rich people know that by reducing costs, they don't need to make more money, therefore they don't need to hire more people. People can't save and invest if they have no jobs!
You keep saying I did this and that, and YOU have the wrong mindset. You lack compassion and understanding. The average millionaire can tell you that they did this and that...but most of them wouldn't know how to make 10 million dollars. Everybody has limits and different circumstances.
OK, Boomes screwed ALOT of people besides Gen Z so make sure you open this up and don't make yourself sound like Zoomer cry babies playing the only victim...
They will boom boom in their pants greedy oldies

Generation X consistently stays gettin left out the discussion! 😭
OH.... WELL FU#K IT! 🙃😁
I'm a boomer. This bible verse is so helpful through my life:
Phillipians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
In the name of the lord Jesus Christ ‼️ 🙏🏽 Amen
ok boomer
I can do all things through Social Security which strengthens me.
Gen Z has the greatest opportunities in history with all the knowledge in history available through internet and AI. It’s up to each individual to find what pays and work hard. Don’t worry about retirees, their Social Security drops in value every year because of inflation. Medicare does not cover all their healthcare costs.
Ehhh, not really. The internet is a great thing but it’s not this great panacea because EVERYONE knows the secret. Baby boomers just had an easier time accruing wealth compared to their Gen Z counterparts.

I think his financial part has less to do with Asians mostly none Asians. That's why it's not as appealing to this channel. However he is right on the dating apps. It mess with us all.
What do you mean? Because Asians are rich?
@@xyz-pg3zd We don't really have financial issues. Buying a house even at current price is achievable. However Asian men are not doing well on dating compared to other minorities like black men.
the difference is tho that gen x had a chance to change things but they didn't. y'all had 30 years to do something but instead u let ur kids go through the same nonsense but worse. and yes i think gen z has it worse, my parents are gen x and every single person their age complains just as much as boomers do about "lazy genz" and are completely oblivious to our problems. like bfr, when u were young, u didn't have 50k in student loans per year as the average and u could buy a decent house that doesn't cost half a million. i feel like these comments are heavily biased towards gen x like ok boomer in disguise.
There are still opportunities for Gen Z. You just have to be motivated and plan for your future. Being an influencer is a good thing. But Tik Tock may go bye bye.
