  • Just a quick video to say I'm still around and to apologise for not putting up much content recently. As you know I officially went full time with my restoration business in the last year and its taken a lot of hard work and most of my time to get things up and running. However hoping to be bringing you some more fun Saab-related content soon.

Honestly, if you make Classic Saab Guy license plate frames, I'd buy them! On another note, I'm happy to hear your business is getting up and running, can't wait for new Saab videos. Partially thanks to you, I recently got a 9000 Aero as my first Saab and I love the car.

Yeah I haven't got into merchandising yet but thanks for the vote of confidence - im glad I have a username that can refer to us all classic Saab lovers so maybe a licence plate for the classic Saab gal too ? 🤔. Glad you found a 9000 - I love my CSE - in dire need of some TLC right now - that's the trouble of a work horse - you tend to work it to hard ! Safe driving !

@@theclassicsaabguy236 Yep, I will be driving it quite hard for school through the winters. By the way, do you have any suggestions for how I can minimize rust damage to my 9000 from salt? Anything you do that seems to work? I’ve heard that the options are quite limited, unfortunately.

Haha! This sounds like a familiar story! I have three Saabs at home. After I pay to fix one, another needs repair. I feel as if I am supporting three kids! They all have cost me a lot of money this year. Recently, the 2002 95 Aero had a transmission issue which caused the check engine light to come on. Diagnosis determined that the transmission solenoid needs replacing at $1300! I said forget it and had the codes cleared. So far it is running ok. Then a week or two later, the very same thing happened on my 1998 900s! That car runs and drives fine. I had the codes cleared on that one, and so far no issues. Then a week later, the 2002 95 got its front fender smashed in at a parking lot. The culprit took off. I have no collision insurance to cover it! So, out-of-pocket costs will be $1300 for that now! Maintenance issues never end on these old Saabs.

Yep the story of my life - I go through these phases where I say I'll do all the work myself, but when you're a single parent with two kids running your own business, finding the time to be fixing cars and having them off the road for periods of time is not always an option - so then I take them to local Saab garage but half the time they're not too sure on how to do stuff 🙈 because they're used to working on newer cars - the last two times I needed them to do work I ended up doing it myself on their premises teaching the new young mechanics 😂 I don't think I've ever owned an old Saab in 25 years which didn't need some niggling job to attend to. But hey, it's better than the alternative right ? Driving some generic modern car you can't do diddly squat with unless you have a quantum computer 😂

@@theclassicsaabguy236 That's funny that in Sweden of all places you cannot easily find an experienced Saab tech to work on your cars! Here in the US I have many options including a pair of brothers one town over who are long-time Saab collectors. They service my classic 1989 900 and even have a trained Saab tech to work on my "newer" 2002 Saab 95.

@@pbutter237 yeah that's what happens when there are generations of people that remember the classic 900 and 99 as grandma's old car ! There is of course a a couple of collectors and Independent Saab mechanics around here and there but let's just say one is dealing with very special people! For instance one guy who had over 200 Saabs on his farm teased me with potential parts I could buy but then decided he wasn't selling - I've experienced that kind of thing a couple of times- it's just odd! Oh yeah and I had a member from a certain Saab club here put a notice in their website to not sell the classic Saab guy any cars (because I'm English) 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The plate holder is a great idea. You need to find someone with a 3d printer and fashion your own.
I may look for one (find someone to make one) for US plates for my ‘92 vert. (Which, btw, just had a head gasket repair, likely from the unnoticed heater valve fail. Still worth every $ though).
And, have you seen the recent bring-a-trailer prices for C900 verts?

@@dj_paultuk7052 ha that's strange , I've experienced the opposite - well, as I mentioned in a previous video - all the baby blue 99's, 90's and 900's came from there and I've owned 4 of them plus have never seen another in that colour rust (the beige that came from there is a diff ent story) - plus my 900 Vert is also rust free.
