  • Need to make camp fast? this is a great way to do it. A car awning with a wing. This one is very quick to set up. Perfect for the vehicle that gets moved around a lot. Super strong, built with quality components.

      Yes mate I did. They do look good however i have Broken a few and the ostrich just has super dooper strong components. It handles the wind, rain and snow well too

    How does it go for it getting blown up and over onto the roof? I have a Fox Awning atm and snapped two of the swivel points because I only tied down the last 'wing' and it got blown up and over onto my roof racks.

    Hey mate, I'm seriously considering an Ostrichwing and was wondering if you could share your experiences.
    Does it pool water in heavy rain? I realise it has the arm to give it some pitch, but it still looks like it has a fairly flat area.
    Also, how have you found it for shelter off the side of your fourby? They only come out about 2.1m best I can tell and I'm wondering if the shelter off the rear quarter/back is as usable as shelter off the side?

      Hey mate,just got back from a weekend with over 50m of rain. It works perfectly. You get a small pool on each section then it self sheds over the side. I sleep a double swag under it with a chair and table no problems. One or two walls makes all the difference in really bad weather, holds up to snow well too. Get the additional poles to help with strong winds. We have had 5 days straight of wind with gusts over 100kms and with the poles it was solid as a rock

      @@IntotheMountains Sweet as, thanks heaps for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Was dicing up between Ostrich Wing or a BunduAwn, but you've sorted out my worries, so Ostrich Wing it is. :) Will definitely get the three poles, as I reckon I'll end up with a couple of walls for it.
      Again, many thanks mate.

    Not sure that last bar with the strap is to flex like it is.
    Overall I've been looking at these just have to save more.

    Given they are half again the price of a 30 second are they that much better ? As I write this the 30 second is $995 and the ostrich seems to be $15550. I'm looking at all the wing style awnings for a ute camper build but wondering if I should just get a cheapie kings and regard it as disposable... I only stop in caravan parks and want the awning for rain. I'd probably always peg it down as you never know if a gale is going to blow up in the night...Really good video though, very informative.

      In your case, you should go with a lower cost setup....There are a few out there under a grand that are actually good quality (not like this, but you're not driving the Outback or the Savannah)...Check out Oz Tent (don't know where you live, so don't know if they are available there)...

    Is there / can you make a video showing the mounts and the back plate attachment?
    Also...what make/model of electric pop up tent was that you pointed out?

    • @IntotheMountains
      @IntotheMountains  Před 6 lety

      FJoy hey buddy, the pop up tents are called a 'bundu' rooftop. Not sure on correct spelling but google will find them for you. The brackets were custom made by the team at tough touring however the unit did come with standard L shape mounts that would suit a variety of roof racks. The backing plate is sold aluminum and has multiple mounting points and heights. Hope this helps mate 👍

    Mate sounds like you are familiar with the 30second awning, I have just brought a 30 second, can you explain what the weakness are compared to the ostrich?

    • @IntotheMountains
      @IntotheMountains  Před 4 lety +2

      The 30 sec is also a good one mate. Both built quite well. The main problem we saw wasn’t with these, it’s the ones without a good pitch, with no truss beams and plastic bushes that have small mounts. They just can stand up to the snow, wind or water pooling on them. As we use them 4 seasons, we are pushing them beyond the intended use all year round. So far so good with the ostrich. I’ve measured over 100km winds against it and was very surprised it made it 😂

    Super strong etc but how does it go for weight - almost double some other 270s.

    • @IntotheMountains
      @IntotheMountains  Před 5 lety +1

      Haven’t noticed the weight. The car carries it for me! 😂 seriously though there was no measured fuel difference upon installing. I think the heavier components and canvas are a justified trade off as the other ones I’ve had didn’t last long and didn’t hold up to rain or snow
