  • "Don't count calories, but calories still count!"
    Low Carb Dietitian Melanie Walters tells us how she helps her clients to lose weight and get healthy!
    Melanie is a dietitian that works at Sante Medical in Brisbane, QLD. She's a very popular low carb dietitian, which is something of a rarity - especially after how Dietitians Australia treated Dr Gary Fettke for advising his patients to try low carb diets!
    Dietitians have classicly been opposed to low carb, but Mel uses it to help her patients to lose weight and get healthy, including Carnivore Patients if you need help.
    She became a dietitian to combine her love of food and desire to help others. Melanie enjoys helping people optimise their health and wellbeing by improving their lifestyle. She provides patients with evidence-based nutrition strategies to help them meet their goals through practical dietary recommendations and sustainable health and lifestyle changes. She has a strong interest in therapeutic carbohydrate restriction (low carb) but understands there is no one diet fits all approach.
    She finds low-carb eating easy to adapt to her busy lifestyle, including plenty of eating out and was able to reduce and maintain her weight without feeling restricted. After finding personal success, she has seen similar success with many patients for weight loss and many other chronic conditions. In her spare time, she is busy looking after her two young daughters, collecting recipe books and adapting recipes to reduce carbohydrates (including some delicious desserts!)
    Follow Mel on Instagram and Facebook or see her at Sante Medical or by Telehealth.

    I'm a 60+ yr old lady who has lost 80 pounds since April of '21. I've never counted a single thing besides making sure I stay under 20 grams of carbs per day. The weight loss and health gains came naturally and easily for me :D edited to add: I'm 90% carnivore, almost zero veg, zero fruit, zero seed oils, zero processed food, zero cheats.

    Why Are Low Carb Dietitians So Rare? Because Big Everything are so very very powerful and have a lot of say. From the dictus to the marketing their word holds and controls sway.

    With age I found it ever easier to gain weight and hard to lose even eating very low carb and not counting calories which is the only convenient way to monitor intake. I find bout of tracking makes a big difference.

    Calories do not matter and do not count. Calories cannot be eaten, burnt nor used as energy derived from food. Calories are MASS LESS. What you both need to understand that its MASS that counts. I have mentioned this on your other video and you seem to not comprehend this fact. Prove that calories matter! I would love to have your so called science on this area. I gladly welcome it.

      Im confused.. if a calorie is a unit of energy that one's body can use then how is attributing calories to the energy food contains something that cant be eaten? I also agree counting calories is useless when on carnivore. Your body treats food differently depending on your insulin level when considering fat production. I have no clue how many 'calories' i consume each day, I just eat when Im hungry and thats it. I actually have difficulty keeping weight on so I add fruit when I feel Im leaning out too much. I like to have a little bit of padding on me.. i dont like the shredded lean look.

      @@user-hm4jm1cy7mCalories is HEAT ENERGY. Nothing more nothing less. The human body cannot use or metabolize HEAT ENERGY. Its mass less and is actually photons of light. Humans cannot use HEAT ENERGY in anyway. We use potential chemical energy that food contains. That energy is only realised once the body breaks the carbon hydrogen bonds within food. It's a very tightly controlled process and is done in an open system environment. The only thing that can change body composition is MASS and nothing else. When someone loses fat, where does it go?? I will leave that for you to ponder over. Dont eat fruit, it's full of fructose which the body does not need. It goes straight to your liver. Humans were never designed to be frugivores.

    • @Themeatmedic
      @Themeatmedic  Před 9 měsíci

      why are you so angry about calories? nobody has said that humans are a bomb calorimeter, thermodynamically sealed system or anything else like that. in the context of food, calories are an approximation of energy/mass whatever you want to call it consumed and utilised, that's all

    • @dombarton2483
      @dombarton2483 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@Themeatmedic No, that is where you are wrong Dr. K. it's totally false to even use the term. Calories are HEAT, MASS LESS.....body composition is not based at all on the consumption of HEAT...it weighs nothing !!! When one steps on a scale, they are seeing MASS effected by gravity...not HEAT. ..take protein for example...its rarely if ever used as an ENERGY source yet it forms part of your "Calorie" intake according to you...its used primarily for rebuilding, repairing and other metabolic activities. I ask you this.....where does the fat go when you lose fat?

    • @dombarton2483
      @dombarton2483 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@Themeatmedic When one loses fat, it goes where???? It doesnt get released by the body as heat which most believe it does, its released into the atmosphere as CO2 and H2O!!! MASS to all you calorie junkies. Everytime we breathe out we lose MASS, and along with sweat, methane, ketones, tears, and other compounds its MASS, not Calories that are released. So if you want more proof, boil a 1litre of water, and weigh it on the scales. Record its weight. Leave it to cool down to room temp say 20 degrees. So what has occurred. The weight will not change, but the temp has. Using the calorie model.. its lost 80Kcal, but the weight remains the same. It proves Calories weigh nothing, have NO MASS. So dont count calories count Carbs in grams, proteins in grams and Fat in grams as that is what will change body composition and nothing else.

    I'm really trying to figure out nutrition through my own personal journey and when I do this, the road often leads to lower carb, it is interesting that my research didn't really lead me to this either

    Hi Perth WA - quiet a few keto dieticians but what is missing is keto doctors who understand type 2 diabetics that are insulin dependent I am very low carb carnivoreish and recently got down to 3 units a day from 10 units very good BG at 5 units in range 5-6 but 4 ok and 3 ok for a few days then all went crazy in the 6.5 to 8.2 range and stayed in that range until I went back to 7 units and over 6 days is now 5.3 - 6.4 and trending lower - I reduced from 5 because I got a C-Peptide test in july that showed 0.64 so wanted to test ? insulin production - Sadly the internet is my doctor - not good

      @@Stuart.Branson. Thanks but I may need the injections because the big pharma drugs (glycade) to treat BG not Insulin Resistance have destroyed my pancreas I was put on insulin 10 + years ago - C- Peptide below 0.08 After 18 months Keto my C- Peptides were 0.64 - There is a 90% remission of Type 2 insulin users after less than 10 years on keto - going to see my dietician in December - As I said sadly the internet is my info - Big Pharma use metformin then glycade then insulin and forixga treating the symptoms (high BG) not the cause - thanks again

      not everybody wants to do zero carb

    • @Stuart.Branson.

      @@Themeatmedic of course no one wants that. We all want chocolate and beer and pizza. Isn't this the point of your vids and channel - raising awareness of the futility of these stupid "wants" ?
      Just eating 1 French fry can ruin the digestion of a steak. You must be no carb or may as well eat whatever you want. There is no healthy balance that includes unhealthy (carb) food.
      The simple way to gage your intake is to gage your output - crap in = crap out. When you eat properly you rarely go for a number 2 which is normal but your local GP will say you are constipated and try to get you on some meds.
      Keep up the good fight 👊
