  • This is a rare view of how our (FEN) Far East Network staff served those who proudly served in the Philippines. As part of the worldwide arm of the American Forces Radio and Television Service overseas, our crew performed what was referred to as split feeds of programs.
In this case, Sergeant Rusty Barfield is viewed on the set at Clark Air Base, during 6 O’clock Evening Report, while Lance Corporal Kyle Olson is seen broadcasting from Subic Bay Naval Base.
Also shown is Lt.Col. Ron Rand (now Brigadier General Rand), who served as spokesperson for 13th Air Force--especially during the Mt.Pinatubo event.
Also, here is a 16-millimeter color film look into the FEN studios of former Clark Air Base, Philippines, as the Evening Report news show was being produced in 1977. It featured Navy Journalist Vic Pinson. Airman Jim McGraw performed as audio technician, with Navy Journalist Bob Anderson in the Technical Director's chair. I'm Virgil Hopper. I called the shots that day as director for the production.
As a special bonus, we get a precious glimpse at our dear passed friend, Staff Sergeant Russ Casey. He served as telecine and film chain operator for the show.
If anyone recognizes the two (2) engineering technicians seen here, please leave a message so I can give much-deserved credit.
    Stay tuned.

If I'm not mistaken, you had a jazz program 9pm, Sunday nights. That program was later called the Quiet Storm. cmiiw
