  • Have you wanted to set your print book up on pre-order. Well you’re in luck because today we’re continuing our Self publishing books off Amazon series and pre-orders for print books is one of the many options on Barnes & Noble press. So stick around.
    Barnes and noble press, formerly known as nook press, is another great option for self publishing books off amazon. While yes, you can use an aggregator like Draft2Digital or Smashwords to upload to Barnes & Noble, publishing on Barnes and Noble directly can ensure you maximize your royalties. Enough jibber, jabber, let’s get started:
    Now that you’ve gotten your book uploaded, have you thought about the audiobook? Maybe even narrating the audiobook yourself? Check out this video right here where we discuss narrating your own book. Or you can check out this video that CZcams says you’ll love.
    I’ll catch in the next video and remember to write right.

    Excellent. Do you use a Different isbn for hardcover, than what you did for your paperback? Also, did you indicate that Amazon was selling the paperback version on the Barnes site and even though a different ISBN is needed for the hardcover, you would indicate yes there is expanded or global distribution to link the two?

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Před 3 lety +2

      Each “version” of the book needs to have its own isbn. So paperback and hardcover would need separate isbns. If you select global distribution through KDP then your book will be distributed to B&N.
      Now if you used the free isbn from KDP for your paperback, that isbn is only good for that one platform, so if you decide to publish a paperback version directly on B&N you’d need a different isbn even though they’re the same “version”, because free isbns are only usable in the platform you got it from.
      I hope this helps.

      @@KeithWheelerBooks thank you Keith.
      That’s so interesting that Amazon would sell on Barnes and Nobles.
      3 questions:
      Do books sold on Barnes by Amazon lend to the books overall sales amount or rating in both Barnes and Amazon?
      Furthermore, Do Barnes and nobles separate ISBN hardcover versions from Amazon soft cover versions in so far as volume count towards overall sales. Do Barnes or Amazon track a particular story with the same title or is it all ISBN?
      And lastly, Barnes and Nobles has a policy of allowing in store availability of books, given enough online sales, and potentially speaking engagements in -store. Is the volume of books tracked to include all forms of the books together, paperback, hardcover, digital?
      Thank you so much.

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Před 3 lety

      Great questions! First let’s clarify that when you’re using global distribution, that includes B&N. It’s not amazon selling on B&N. Because of this distinction...
      Sales made through B&N are lumped in with all the other Global Distribution sales at the end of the month.
      Only sales made on the Amazon platform affect your books ranking.(even sales on other amazon marketplaces do not affect your ranking on Amazon in the US. They only affect the ranking on that specific countries marketplace.)
      Books to be carried in store, CAN take into account global sales regardless of the platform, but that is a store by store decision. Some M&N stores require you to have an agent to be considered to be carried in the store.
      I hope this helps.

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Před 4 lety

      Unfortunately, the only real way to increase the resolution is to shrink the image. You may need just stick with just an ebook and audiobook format if you’re not able to get higher resolution images. If you got the images from an illustrator, you could reach back out to them and see if they could provide higher resolution images. If you got the images from a website, I’d suggest checking to see if there is a larger version of the images available. Typically, the bigger the image, then when you shrink the image, the resolution increases.

    Also, if a book was published on one site is it okay to publish on other sites as well? I have a book that's not on amazon or lulu. I don't remember seeing anything about expanded distribution.

      You can absolutely publish the same book on multiple sites, if you own the isbn. Be sure to use the same isbn across all platforms for the same “version” of the book. (Ie. The hardcover should have the same isbn regardless of the site it’s uploaded to. • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Před 4 lety +1

      I don’t currently have a video on barcodes. Since most platforms add them to your book automatically, I really don’t see a point in excluding them. Also, remember that we want our books to compete with traditionally published books, so if we leave off something as visible and recognizable as a barcode, it may be seen as “unfinished” or inferior. (Customers can tell if something looks “off”)

    What does embedding a font mean? How is it done & is it a pain to do?

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Embedding your fonts within your document is basically locking the fonts in place as they appear.
      It’s kind of like if someone took a picture of you next to a movie standee. While in person you and the standee are clearly separate elements, once the picture is created, you both appear to be the same dimensions.
      That’s the way it is with fonts. By embedding your fonts, you ensure everyone is seeing your words exactly as you intended. If you don’t embed them and the person is reading it on a kindle device and doesn’t have access to that font, the device will use a different font which may not layout the same as your intended font.
      For the print version, the printing house may not have access to that font so, again, what they print may not appear as you intended. This can not only affect the look of your font, but your font spacing, line spacing, etc.
      As for how easy or difficult it is, depends on what your original software you wrote it in is.
      The good news is that you can simply look up “how to embed fonts in ____” and get the steps.
      I hope this helps.

    Hi. I have a question, I have already a barcode/ISBN. I placed it at the cover and when I upload it (several times), it appears blank. Please help, what should I do? Thank you.

    • @KeithWheelerBooks
      @KeithWheelerBooks  Před 3 lety +1

      You should not include the barcode on your cover. B&N Press will add in a barcode to your back cover, as you build your print book. If there is a barcode already on your book, you may run into errors while uploading such as your cover being rejected or the appearance of double barcodes.

    Do your book have page numbers? I know some books dont have to have page numbers. Would you recommend page numbers

      I do not include page numbers on any of my ebooks because the pages are different depending on the device used.
