    "LOVE your classes and your teaching techniques!!!"
    Sara Q.

    I bought this course this morning and have been skipping around through the lessons and I have to say I love it.
    This course (Photo) is beginner-friendly. It starts with looking at the tools and layout of the software
    It doesn't show you too much on how to use this as photo editing software like many Photo tutorials do, but keeps the focus on low content, and several lessons apply to coloring images. Jayne has handpicked the tools and filters that we need to know and skips the rest.
    Jayne has a calm, step-by-step teaching style. She explains things in just enough detail.
    . . . if you want to know how to use Photo for low content and printables, I recommend this course.

    "Now I’m off and running into a new world of discovery. Yippee!"
    Phoebe E.
    **********************************************
    "At last, the waiting is over and Jayne’s third course on the Affinity suite of software is out. I love Jayne’s style of using mainly short, and to-the-point, videos to take you from getting the workspace to suit your way of working to using the more fear-producing filters and blending tools so you can create a unique image.
    This course on Affinity Photo has 44 videos in the first five modules. These take you through the tools and show you the basics. Jayne has then added two bonus sections in Module 6 - Creating Cover Templates (5 videos) and a Projects Section (6 videos) to show you even more ways to use the program.
    Throughout the course, Jayne gives you ideas on how to use the tools in ways to create different design types. I have learned several new ways to create coloring images and will put them to use."
    Marian Blake - Marian's Designs
    *********************************************
    "Wow! I LOVE this software! And Jayne's easy-to-follow video course (and wonderful support materials) had me up and running like a PRO in no time!
    Thanks Jayne!"

    Just going through this process myself, so it's useful to see - I did find it interesting that your cover file seemed to pass so easily to review stage, as I'm currently finding it to be absolutely impossible to satisfy whatever the requirements are supposed to be, having shrunk my images over and over again so that they don't even go beyond the inner blue dotted lines of the template, never mind the red/orange - meaning that ultimately the cover is not at all as I actually want it to appear;
    in fact I've even tried it with an entirely blank page and the site still insists that my cover image goes beyond the accepted boundaries, so at present I am waiting to hear from their helpdesk as to why it isn't working... anyway glad you're having some success with it all, at least :) Haven't had any such problem with KDP, their entire process from start to finish was very easy; I looked into Lulu self-publishing too but their finished cost for the book was something like ten dollars more expensive to produce, which would pretty much guarantee zero chance of selling, so they're out.
    Oh just in addition, I did find a print-to-order self-pub company in the UK a little while ago, but it required you to buy the ISBN, and also the finished cost of the book was way higher than on B&N/Amazon too, so I gave it a hard pass. Annoyingly, their cover-submission process worked absolutely fine, heh.

    Thank you, Jayne. This is the most informative "How-to" video for B & N Press. If I understand correctly I can upload the exact same book (title, manuscript, and cover) that I already have on KDP, and just use a free B&N ISBN? I used the free KDP ISBN on the KDP site. ( 2 hours later) I just got a notice from BN that I hit the limit for free ISBNs. That is the first I've heard about that. I have less than 30 books with them.

      Hi - depends on whether you have a 'publishing name'? Mine is the SylverZone Print Shop rather than my own name. I've not ordered from Barnes and Noble as I live in the UK, but I think (from memory) once your book is published there is an order form which allows you to order at cost price.

    Very insightful video, thank you for this. I do have a question. If you want to sell your book on both Barnes and Noble and Amazon, will it be okay that they have a different ISBN that is provided by each site? Or is it once you have one ISBN from one site you have to use the same ISBN on the other site? Any insight is appreciated.

    • @SylverZone

    Hello Sylver, I have two questions:
    1) Does estimated page count mean the back and front of a page or does it count them individually? For example If I have a 104 page PDF document should I pick 51-100 (52) estimated pages or 101-150 (104)?
    2) Once I create my ISBN, should I add a Copyrights page to my PDF before submitting my book or does Barnes & Noble automatically create a page inside my book with the ISBN they provide to you?
    Thanks in a advance!

    • @SylverZone
      @SylverZone  Před 3 lety

      Fernando Laureano - yes 104 pages is both sides so pick 101-150 and B&N will add the ISBN for you, to your cover. Remember to leave space for it. Bottom right at the back. It is only Lulu.com that generates a JPG for the barcode which you have to download and add to your cover.

    Thanks for sharing this info. I've been very happy with my relationship with Amazon doing my books, but I'd like to stretch further and make use of Barnes & Noble as well. I have three questions that you can probably help with: 1. With B & N, can authors order copies of their own books at a discount? 2. If for any reason I'm not happy with the results I get, is it easy to unpublish the books, like it is with Amazon? 3. One thing about Amazon that I love is their KDP customer service. They have been quick and pleasant about any questions. Does B & N have good customer service for authors as well?

    • @SylverZone

      Currently “…it’s 55% royalties for paperback and up to 70% royalties for eBooks.” Less printing costs for paperbacks/hardbacks - and those depend on too many variables to cover here.

      If you follow the steps in the video it covers the whole process. If you want more detail you can check out my book ‘How to Climb the Self Publishing Rockface’. Available on Amazon and my website. Details in the description.

      One question though? Are these books already published through a publishing house? If so, they should be marketing them on Amazon, B&N etc. already?

      I don't see why not - it will be the tax form that will tell you I think.

    How do I pay taxes on the books I sell?

    • @SylverZone
      @SylverZone  Před 2 lety

      Depends what country you live in? In the UK you add it to your tax return if you self-assess. I think you can do something similar if you are on PAYE. But you can ask on the HMRC site. In the US there is an annual tax return I believe?

    Can you print your own book and just one copy for yourself??

    • @SylverZone
      @SylverZone  Před 3 lety

      I suppose so. But if you didn’t want to sell it to the public you would have to take it off sale afterwards. Lulu would probably be the better platform for one-off prints as they have a process for that.

      An update on that - you have the option to print a personal copy when you start the process :-)

    $1.4 profit per book? Is that what authors go for? It seems one would have to sell a ton of books to be able to pay rent.

    • @SylverZone
      @SylverZone  Před 8 měsíci

      Well it depends on what you set your selling price at. But you have to follow the market demand somewhat if you want to sell any. And keep in mind that if you have lots of books and you start to sell well it mounts up. Good luck. 😊

    I gave this a thumbs down because it did NOT show how to put in the author name. It will NOT let you type in the name in that box, SO WHERE DO YOU SET UP THE AUTHOR NAME? A very important step that is missing here.

    • @SylverZone
      @SylverZone  Před 4 lety +1

      At 9:57 you will find the section on Author names. If you plan to use the same name all the time you will set this up (as I mention) when you register. Or you can 'add' another contributor and set the status as 'Author' or something else. :-)

      @@SylverZone LOL, like I said, all you can do is select a name from the drop-down menu; so the names must magically appear. I will keep looking for how to enter a new author's name. Thanks for the attempt.

      @@MichaelDFortner You have to click on the 'Add a Contributor' blue link. Another drop down box appears where you can click on 'add contributor's name'. This then gets added to your Author names list for future choices. Simples :-)
