Okay, that's kinda unfair to the Sonic Mania dev team. I'm pretty sure they don't want to be just that studio who makes Sonic games, let them branch out.

The thing I loved about this direct more than anything is that the people presenting it had a fun time with it. It felt like Iwata’s spirt was there. It was beautiful.

You could say that for literally any game if you're myopically focused on "muh specs bro". And for some, maybe it's not. But for many, it ABSOLUTELY WILL be. As with most quality ports, many feel Switch is the best place to play.

To be fair, she didn’t just have emotions in Super Princess Peach just because she was a woman. The entire world was being affected by a device that was putting every creatures emotions to the extreme. Goombas and Koopas were all unique to whatever emotion they had. Crying, rage, joy. It was cool!
Guys, of course there are going to be new tracks in Mario Kart! They literally showed a new track being played, and they always add 8 new tracks with each wave. That's the whole point of this DLC! It's called Booster COURSE pass. New characters are just a fun bonus.
I think Wood would actually like Dragon Quest Monsters. It's lower budget than the main Dragon Quest series (hence the "mobile" look), but it's basically their take on Pokemon, but with more focus on breeding (which they call "synthesizing" since the move to DS) to get more powerful monsters.
Not to be all ACSHULLY, but Dragon Quest Monsters predates Pokemon by quite a bit. Its system was introduced in Dragon Quest 5, which then spun off into the Monsters subseries.
And that formula itself was a more simplified and lighthearted take on the Megami Tensei demon mechanics.
Im excited about it, Ive been waiting for a new Monsters series. And this one is looking great!!

In my opinion, I think it was a good direct. There were some really cool announcements, but presentation wise it had a hard time keeping momentum after the big announcements.
I'm confused by your definition of "remake" then. Something like Super Mario RPG where the entire game is overhauled with new graphics is considered a remake.
Skyward Sword HD is just a touch-up on making the game look clean in HD for the Switch in 60fps, so this would be a remaster as nothing else was changed fundamentally about that game (other than adjusting for the Joycons and use of a regular controller).
On the other hand, OoT and MM 3D are remakes as they received a graphic/visual overhaul rather than touch-ups.

It's a little ugly but some way some how, the gameplay is some of the best in the series and the story is very extensive for the first time in a while

Bob is actually kind of right about Persona having a lot of offshoots because Persona itself is an offshot of Shin Megami Tensei which also has a bunch of offshoots
Persona has a lot of offshoots mainly because it's the most popular sub-series of SMT, so it rakes in more cash than the rest of the franchise. ESPECIALLY internationally.
As I've said to others speaking as a fan of all of SMT, Persona included, they could've made it a new Majin Tensei or Devil Survivor game and it would've been more fitting since those are preexisting SMT TRPGs, but it also wouldn't have nearly the same amount of eyes on it (and sales) as as "Look everyone! A new Persona spinoff!".
It's basically a meme in the greater SMT community that everything else gets shafted in favor of Persona.

Gloomhaven only recently got knocked off the top spot of the best board game of all time after having that accolade for about 5 years. I dont know how well it will translate to the switch (probably well as its a table top rpg) but that announcement deserves way more hype.
Looking for Gloomhaven comments and glad I found your's - The digital version on the PC is amazing and it will be interesting to see how it ports over to the Switch!

If you look at the 3DS, it got a lot of ports at the end of it’s life and now the Switch is getting a lot of ports: Metroid Prime, Mario RPG, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Pikmin 1 and 2, Solid Snake collection, and Batman Arkham trilogy. Is Nintendo finally signifying the end of life for the Switch?

Just an fyi, even though neither of you will ever read this. The cow in silent hope looks like a harvest moon cow(story of seasons cow) because Xseed is making the game, and Marvelous, the owners/ creators of the harvest moon (now story of seasons over here) is the parent company to Xseed. So, you know, not speaking of copyright.
Thank you for explaining it because I had the same thought as them, like it was a copy/paste ripoff. Now it all makes sense. But still, couldn't they design a new cow look? I never liked the way they looked in Harvest Moon, etc. The head is just way too big with such a small body.
I think Wood should try the new dragon quest monsters game when it comes out. I played the two ds games and while they don’t look all look very impressive they are super fun monster collecting games and hopefully the new one is as fun as the previous ones
They look graphically better than the Pokemon games. And they're more difficult
Since both of them have jailbroken 3DSs, they can play the 3D remakes of the OGs that got fan translated, along with Joker 3.
Ironically, I HATE the pokemon take on the monster catching formula but LOVE DQM and SMT because they offer way more depth rather than just being a grindfest.
Wood and Wuffle disrespecting the Monster Taming Genre seriously they aren't "Knockoffs" or "Clones"!
I never get why people are upset about Mario Kart 8, what will Mario Kart 9 do differently? Drive different? I see them just porting all this over to the new system as Mario Kart Ultimate lol

Smrpg remake is an S tier day one buy. An ill probably beat the game in one sitting.
Absolutely LOVE Smrpg. I literally beat it at least once every 2 years. Since I was like 7 years old.
A remake vs remasters is very easy to tell. You can have a 1 to 1 remake of the world and story and it's still a remake.
Think of it like this. If I was to remaster the Monalisa painting, I would have to change the original painting itself. As in pull it off the wall then add and/or remove stuff, then put it back up on the wall. The devs take the original code of the game and tweak it.
If I was to remake the Monalisa, then I would have to make it from scratch with the original painting as reference meterial.

Don't forget that not everyone watch every single presentation or trailer for upcoming games, so I guess some group of people will see a lot of these games as "new" announcements.
You better be able to play as yoshi AND all of the yoshies be able to jump on each other and have a stack of 4 yoshies and play as a tower of yoshies the whole level!
Arkham trilogy on my switch now there are two things that will make me happy before going to bed
Not sure if I would use the argument with Detective Pikachu that it's "switch showing it's age" like look at TOTK the game is an open world game that looks awesome. While yes it has some problems the game looks visually great while having many more options of what to do compared to a pokemon game. It's just badly done.
MGS 5 did run on PS3, so I could see it on switch

Oh no Wood! Dragon Warrior Monster (name it had when I bought it, I know it should be Quest and newer games have that name) was my favourite game. I liked it better than Pokémon, which I never liked double battles but had no problems with 3 vs 3 in DWM. The battle...arena(?) was fantastic and loved that I couldn't just select their attacks, I felt like I had to 'train' them to know what to do, but don't know if that is accurate. And the breeding was so much better, so much more mystery on the final outcome and I'm sure some would laugh at the anteater and other beasts but they did have some really cool designs for enemies (undoubtedly because of Dragon Quest). The only thing I can say about Gold/Silver's breeding system (and really anything afterwards) is "poor man's breeding system." Also breeding Monsters that had stats so strong that they could not be displayed on screen was good times.
I don't know if Wood would enjoy the randomly generated dungeons though. But still sad to have the whole Monsters series dismissed. Wish he could play the DWM for the original Game Boy Color game and compare it to what was available at the time, Red and Blue, maybe Gold and Silver, no clue the Australian release dates for the games.

Silent Hope is a new IP by Xseed which is a very notable game studio that has been around for literal decades, this will be a high quality title.
Xseed are the devs that used to make Harvest Moon, split up from Natsume and now make Story of Seasons which is real Harvest Moon now, they also make Rune Factory which is a long running game franchise.
Silent Hope cutscenes are made for the game itself, it is not an anime, Rune Factory has hand drawn cutscenes too. Silent Hope looks like an IP if Rune Factory was only about its combat and did not have the Story of Seasons farming aspect; and yes the cows are in the same style as Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons, made by the same devs. [Natsume owns the rights to Harvest Moon, but has no devs to make a real, fun game.]
Xseed is mainly a localization studio and they're a subsidiary of Marvelous.
None of those games are DEVELOPED by them.

Xseed was the studio that made Harvest Moon, but now they make Story of Seasons. Natsume always owned and published Harvest Moon and Natsume still owns the rights to Harvest Moon, but Xseed left them.
I wish the direct had more variety. I was looking for so many different games. Xenoblade Chronicles X, twilight princess and windwaker port, Metroid prime 2 3 or 4 news, Mario odyssey 2, Astral Chain 2, a 3D donkey Kong game, or a new ip. Happy for the ppl that enjoyed this direct but it was mid for me. I’m super excited about Mario RPG, Star Ocean 2 remake, and the metal gear series vol 1 but that’s it.
Xenoblade and Zelda just got well received games. Mario got several games regardless just not the very specific type you wanted. I swear people go out of their way to be disappointed

There is a new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe track.
Pokemon and all monster tamers stem from Dragon Quests monster taming systems and Dragon Quest Monsters as a series hasnt seen a title on the west in 13 years ive waited so long for this game and its clearly a DQ4 prequel
One thing I liked about the MGSV story "collapse" is the series timeline at the end.
Otherwise, yeah it was confusing. You don't ~know~ you've completed the game.
One thing I'd like to point out, yes we got a sonic superstars trailer before this direct, but we got new footage and abilities from the chaos emeralds shown off in this particular trailer, so as a Sonic fan we were still excited to see this trailer with NEW additions.
I'm far more excited for detective pikachu then the Pokemon dlc. I didn't think we'd get a sequel and the first game ended on a cliff hanger. I had given up hope. Now I'm super excited.

I’m a HUGE fan of Scarlet and Violet and I think the DLC looks great. I think the main issue is it’s just more Pokémon. So if you like that? Great! If not it’s not going to suddenly win you over.
That being said, Pikmin 4 will be my obsession for the next decade lol.
Not really looking forward to the dlc tbh (Although I have a strong feeling wave 2 will pull me in just like how the crown tundra did) but I'm so hyped for pikmin 4!

Little disappointed that neither of them knew what Dragon Quest Monsters is. This is like the 5th game in the series, and it's been around for almost 30 years. It's like Pokemon but in the Dragon Quest universe. They're generally really really good.

New mario rpg is a remake becuase they added cutscenes and mini-cutscenes for the special abilities
Excited to hear Wood wanting to try Metal Gear Solid V. In my opinion, to best way appreciate the abstract story of the Walkman Trilogy, you should start with Peace Walker, then Ground Zeroes, then MGSV. Its sort of its own sub series within the franchise. And yes while the plug was pulled on V, I think for the most part it accomplished what it set out to do in terms of story.
I like to start with snake eater then go to peace walker but I mean starting at peace walker is probably easier lmfao
@@benamisai-kham5892 I agree with that sentiment. I tried that approach when MGSV came out to replay the entire saga, but its so hard for me to then go from V to the original metal gear or even MGS1. So many gameplay mechanics I've come to love just reasonably vanished.
I found MGSV super disappointing in terms of story. I came to love the long cutscenes and dialogue from the first 4 and then 5 just says no that. I love the gameplay, tho I still love the gameplay in 2-4 slightly more
@@KevinAccetta I hear you. Was definitely expecting a more cinematic experience the first go around for V. Especially since it starts off strong with cutscenes. But after sitting with that disappointment, and reflecting on the entire sage, it feels somewhat fitting to end this anti war story through the a singular perspective engulfed in a metaphorical purgatory. Also helps that MGS4 makes a huge effort to wrap up the bigger narrative.
As for gameplay, I’ve been meaning to revisit 4, but they recently released an expansive gameplay mod for 2 that makes me want to go back to that.
@@MATT_bauer yeah the beginning of MGSV (and ground zeroes) are great, but unfortunately it barely has scenes after the intro, and no fun villains either 🫤
I love MGS2 and MGS3 with all the enemies (Fortune, Vamp, Ocelot, Fatman, Olga/Gray Fox, Fear, Sorrow, End, Pain, etc), meanwhile 5 doesn't really have any rememberable enemy or fun boss fight.
I still gotta finish V tho, tbf

I definitely think the direct was good but it could've been great. Agree with Bob, Let the mario people rejoice! I would have liked to see TOTK DLC announced though, it felt like a complete game with lots to do but Nintendo should strike while the iron is hot!
I disagree, it's still a bit early to announce DLC for totk for me, it would give me the feeling that the game was delivered incomplete. But I'd love to see it next direct 🎉

My favorite mobile game is Bloons TD 6 by Ninja Kiwi because it's very strategic. I don't play auto shooter or idle games like Vampire Survivers because they dont make me think as much as BTD6.

They are trying to figure out if mario rpg is a remake or a remaster. I would argue that it is neither. Allow me to offer this as an option: it is a reSKIN. Its the same game done the same way but instead of updated graphics, they swapped it out for just new graphics but it is still the same game as before. Therefore, a re-skin.
