Literally has 0 problems with s&v just like let's go
You talk like if you had any idea about programming or game creation. Please, at least talk with a programmer before the stupid irasonable complains.
Yes, the game is poorly made, but your arguments are sometimes so stupid...

They already do 😂

Answering the question about why sandwiches are a big thing in this version of Pokemon, in Spain they are called bocatas and they are almost as big as tapas, jam and sangria. There are stores all over the country that just sell sandwiches (like subway but BETTER).
I think I'd really like Spain.
This makes my heart happy 😊 sandwiches are my favorite ❤
Sounds awesome man
To clarify for some people, hoagie (as Bob said) is an American term. Italians also don't call sandwiches on a baguette style bread hoagie - not in Canada or Italy (where I'm from and my heritage).
It's interesting though that Paldea is Spain but Pokemon calls it prosciutto instead of serrano ham or jamon. Litterally, unplayable. :D lol

The main focus of the "patch" was to remove exploits for the game like the item and pokemon duplication glitch. They didn't fix performance issues. They wanted to stop cheating.
I think they also patched the RNG bug in online battles
GameFreak is the one cheating by releasing unfinished games for finished game prices. Maybe they should patch themselves out of this industry
One thing that changed after the patch, which was bugging me, was before the patch if you inflicted a status condition on a pokemon like sleep the pokemon would stand there with its eyes wide open despite being asleep, since the patch pokemon now respond to status conditions. Unless the pokemon is terastallised in which case they still don't act like they've got a status condition.
you guys are like the Mario and Luigi of chill podcasting. thank you for always maintaining a critical view of Nintendo and Pokémon even while being fans 🙏i really hope people remain vocal for as long as possible 🤞
Seriously, why are CZcamsrs still talking about the Pokemon update as though it's a failed performance patch?
The patch was never promise to improve performance. Nintendo just came out and said they would make sure work was now being done on improving performance. It's bloody obvious that they were talking about future updates.
I know these guys refuse to read (Digimon Survive anyone?) but that was very easy to comprehend.
Thank you!
Has it been 30 episodes already?! Man time sure flies!
Just want to give a shout out to Skoot. Thought he did a really good job at being a "supporting character" in this episode. Was funny, had good insights but wasn't overbearing in anyway. Fit the vibe really well.
I think when the comments destroyed him in his first ep was because he was interruptive and overbearing but he seems to have learned to let others talk
Congrats on making it to 30 episodes, here’s to many more…. If you choose. (Also I think I’ve only missed 2 episodes so far)
Hearing you both talk about being 30 episodes from the beginning is wild to me because I remember wanting to Tune In even though I wasn’t really a podcast guy in here I am 30 episodes in and have loved every second of it
There’s this animator floating around tik tok that animates preparing Pokémon dishes. It’s pretty disturbing seeing someone chop up a dead charmander, or making a bulbasaur into a salad.
WTF
It’s nice to see my two favorite CZcamsrs made a channel together !
You guys are awesome, glad everything is going so well with the podcast! You deserve the all success! Hope there are many more episodes to come! Hope you have a nice break Wood, have a nice holiday guys!
One thing I don't hear a lot of people mention when the argument is brought up about Pokémon Scarlet/Violet running on Nintendo Switch VS those games running on a high-end gaming PC is this:
You can increase the resolution, you can increase the frames per second...but all the power in the world won't ever make a game that is coded and programmed to run exclusively on 1 specific console with set hardware limitations run that much better.
The chuggy moments in big towns, Pokémon disappearing when they get out of draw distance range and erased from cache memory...all that stuff is set in stone.
There's a ceiling effect you hit when emulating any Nintendo Switch game on more powerful hardware.
Where you can absolutely take a PC install of 'The Witcher 3' and get wildly better performance by moving it around from say a Steam Deck to a $5K gaming rig, etc...
The same can not be said for an emulated file of the Nintendo Switch version of 'The Witcher 3' for all the reasons already mentioned.
The PC version of that game isn't coded and optimized to run in it's developing game engine at the incredibly low (and locked) settings that the Nintendo Switch version is. So because of this you're able to dramatically increase performance metrics in several dimensions beyond just frame rate and resolution whereas the same can not be said of emulated Nintendo Switch software.
That's the best analogy I can make to explain it.
56:07 a thing to think about with this fact, is that it only works with old fans and nostalgia. You aren't generating new fans by making bad games. kids today aren't waiting for the next episode of Pokémon to air on TV, they're aren't playing the games like we were in the 90s/00s. they're playing fortnite, roblox, and among us. those games will be nostalgic when those kids are 30, and Pokémon could die off. Unless they make good games to get new fans, they'll keep feeding off the nostalgia and an aging fanbase.
Idk about anyone else but This year has just flown by. I swear they just started this podcast a month or 2 ago. EPISODE 30!? Gosh. Congrats fellas.
I love watching wood just being super excited about the snack boxes while bob reads the info 😂 his eyes are like 👀 a kid in a candy shop lol!
Was late coming in to the podcast but man I love the way you guys work together
Congrats on hitting the 30 episode goal 🎉 Was great hearing you both discuss the allowances we give Pokémon just because of the nostalgia, that we would never give any other game. 100% true
Why does wood keep saying that gamefreak didn’t make let’s go pikachu/eevee? Lol they absolutely did so I’m wondering why no one has called him out on it yet.
Just so you know:
You can go into the pokemon summary and re-teach moves or teach them moves you passed on, letting you retool your team much more dramatically and have it be the team you want at any given time.
Did they seriously not know this?
@@DiscordedHaru Not sure but I wanted to make sure that they did since Wood is writing a review and it is honesty one of the easiest things to not even notice.

It'll be interesting if you guys tackle the smash topic a little more in the next episode considering all the information that's out there now.
What’s the smash topic ?
Answering the question about how games are made, and why you can See through, that is because meshes have somthing called "Normal" which is a vector that indicates which faces in the mesh are visible. So you can see through because those faces of the mesh are not supposed to be seen and hence not rendered. Ideally, in any reputable game, you would not be able to clip the camera through a wall. But well, you have seen this pokemon and all the technological marvels it brought to the gaming world (this is sarcasm, in case it it not clear enough lol )
Celestial Seasonings is a company founded by a cult from Colorado, the state I'm from. I honestly still love the sleepy time tea, but it's an interesting rabbit hole for anyone interested.
32:28 I think Wood is talking about Sleepytime tea by a company called Celestial Seasonings. It's absolutely lovely, you should try it! 🤗
I love the podcast ❤
Wood was really funny this episode
Very cool and chill
I appreciate the breakdown of what happened with the Smash World Tour debacle.
In the anime they do show cooked Magikarp. The Pokedex entry for Basculin says they don't taste good. Lol
Opens all the boxes and doesn't share. lol im buying a years worth of BOTH boxes for my brother using code NONTENDO. Thanks Guys! Keep the Podcast going! its what i listen to on my morning drive to work
Lets go was developed by gamefreak. They keep saying "get whoever made let's go" so I thought I should make that clear.l. But this brings up another problem clearly, at least several individuals at gamefreak know how to make good looking, competent switch pokemon games. Idk. Seems like the SV games [imo] could have used at least 2 more years to developing and for optimization/polish and q/a.
I've lived in Murcia, Spain for a few years. A traditional sandwich made with a Spanish baguette is called a Bocadillo (Bocata for short) and can usually comes with either serano ham or tortilla mixed with potatoes and eggs and mayo. It's literally the most common meal besides tapas. When I was in school, I'd safely say 90% of the students all had a Bocadillo for lunch. It's a simple meal, but slaps when done correctly.
This episode was a blast!! More of these chill, 'no cares in the world' episodes please!!
I kind of wish we had less. They have the name Nontendo for a reason: to talk about video games.

Late to the topic but recently I saw a video about overclocking the switch and it can run Scarlet Violet much smoother higher fps and less lag.

I think the best podcasts are in person
I can vouch for the fact that Bob doesn’t like when people tell him to do things ! #wulffdendad
sandwhiches make sense because on the beach you can buy them often and a soda! they usually have a sandwhich house near the beach.
As someone who knows a small thing or two about game development, this particular podcast was painful to listen to, just because you guys don't know enough of the technical to get into it. :(
My best advice to Wood and Bob is to obtain some basic game creation knowledge before you comment on basics like collision detection, culling, 3d rendering, program calls and more. You don't need to learn to code by any means, but some basic understanding of game design/development would definitely add to conversations like this one. I love you guys (you do good work), honestly, I'm just realizing you guys are essentially spreading misunderstanding about why Pokémon is bad because you guys are just lacking some knowledge yourselves.
Collision for the camera most likely can be changed.
The walls and everything already have collision on them since your character cannot just walk-through walls. They have to add the correct type of collision to the "aiming" camera. It's likely a 'bug' that the aiming camera goes through walls.
Pop in seems to be happening in Pokémon because of the way the game is coded - which we know - and can guess because of not all games have pop in issues on the Switch and like Bob said people are emulating Violet/Scarlet on more powerful machines and still having pop in issues. Can this be fixed on a "grand scale"? Yes, it should be able to because it's not like you need to go to every individual thing to optimize it. Things are handled on a grand scale.
Also, "walls" and ground/floor/terrain being paper thin is 100% normal.
"It's made the way it's made" is just 100% incorrect. Anything can be changed at any time as long as the time is put in to do it. (Will they do it, is a different story.)
Game Freak needs a couple of things:
1) A better engine.
2) More development time.
3) More thorough QA.
Development time is the issue here.
(I don't buy games based off review scores or reviews because like you guys said, nobody else is going to know if I'm going to like a game except me.)
Finally, a level headed response.
The Crocodile Dundee reference (from an Australian) in the first 10 seconds 😂
Cubanos aren't from Spain but from Cuba. In your starter house you can find talavera dishes and chile... both Mexican. It seems to me they just added a collection of stuff from different spanish speaking countries
Wich is fine but they could have focus more on spain/portugal and in a few years made one from latin america.
They even have a starter homage to coco (mexican) wich is cute but was hopping more spanish themes.
It's still weird that besides the some frame rates and 1 crash I haven't had any other glitches in the game yet
I don't know why you guys keep saying GameFreak didn't make Let's Go...they did.
soooooooo, is Emboar meat spicy? And where do they draw the line? Are humanoid pokemon consumed?
And they did show a magikarp sashimi in the anime.
Am I crazy? I swore I already heard this podcast about a week ago
Edit: yes, on spotify this was last week's episode, might wanna check that out😅
I was thinking the bakery type stuff was very French-like and maybe because Spain borders France that it was supposed to make sense? Maybe? I’m not sure.
A sandwich in spain is a ham and cheese toasted sandwich. Normally spanish people eat rolls.
Maybe in the next game Team Rocket opens a factory farm artificially breeding and slaughtering pokemon for food.
Worth noting that there are plenty of details misunderstood for the Smash side of things. I know it was intended to be abridged. I encourage all viewers to watch other videos that truly go over the whole situation before forming an opinion.
One thing of note, Panda Cup was not a World Cup unlike the global invite from Smash World Tour. One is basically NA only. Aside from that, there are plenty of other companies and Alan was on a “racketeering” run according to Gimr from VGBC (the company organizing SWT).
As far as do the CEOs play Smash? Yes. Alan started playing and doing commentary in Brawl. Gimr has been active since before Brawl iirc. I know Gimr was quite involved with PM (a Brawl mod to make it more like Melee).
Dachsbun still sinks into the ground in basically every battle lol 😅
Am I the only one that remembers in indigo league prof oak wanted to eat ashes krabby he caught?
I believe Dr Alan did not ask Nintendo to shutdown anyone.
I think Nintendo miscommunicated when they told smash world tour that they aren't safe from cease and desist but didn't tell them they have to cancel.
It's upsetting how broken this game is because what's underneath all those issues is so dang fun :(
What technical issues have you personally experienced during gameplay?
@@micabryant4513 the pop in is super bad in my experience and my game has crashed around 5 times

Congrats on the 30! I think the only one I've skipped is the one where you were rating the sexiness of Pokemon? I was like... Nah I'll see y'all next week lmao
Pokemon's problems remind me of how that Alien Colonial Marines game had a misspelling that made enemy pathfiding bonkers. I have a hard time believing that they messed up _thaaaaat_ badly.
People have been eating pokemon canonical for a long time. Two words: Slowpoke Tail
Me watching and waiting for them to realize that on gen 2 the evil team was capturing and selling slowpoke tails at some point in the story because they were "very tasty" (and, thus, eating pokemon is cannon since the 90s)
But animals also do exist in the Pokemon universe, so it's both ways.
@@DiscordedHaru they don't thou
I think what's being witnessed with S&V is what happens when developers try to move from an on-the-rails 3D environment to an open-world.
I have only played a little of Shield and haven't played Arceus but it would seem that rather than expand on what seems to be an in-house 3D engine, perhaps Gamefreak would have been better served by an existing game engine, such as the Unreal engine or whatever others are out in the wild which would be implemented in the Switch.
Sometimes doing everything in-house doesn't makes sense, particularly when there are existing development kits out there which have had both a good deal of longevity and success.
For myself, I've been gaming since long before you guys were born :) so while these bugs are noticeable, I have played worse - much worse, and I have yet to get to a point where I've felt like throwing the Switch across the room.
On that last point, I play mainly in handheld, so maybe you guys wanna give that a crack and see if the level of "bug"gery (that's one for the ex-pat... :) ) is as intense as you've experienced up to now...
Whole development cycle was during covid too...gotta have an impact
"I have only played a little of Shield and haven't played Arceus but it would seem that"
Then don't comment as if you could know.

installing the patch/update requires rebooting the game which is known to help relieve the memory leak issues. making it seem like the game was running better. it tricked me at first too.
When they talked about the underground water thing I got reminded about how in Kirby's forgotten land there's an exploit with the hammer ability you can use to go out of bounds, I did it with my friend and we were able to go outside of a level and all it was, was an endless ocean, just a thing I wanted to point at like water might be something the developers use to fill in empty space they can't use.
Its about saving memory, i don't understand it fully but i believe having one water source which all draw from helps somehow ..im not a developer lol

Nintendo stated clearly that this patch was for music issue with elite four and other bugs such as eyes not closing during battle and VGC rng issues. They also said they are aware of issues and will be taking that seriously. Patching later.
This patch was NOT for performance enhancements. So why people expected this to fix performance when it wasn't stated in the notes...I have no idea haha.

29:42 it’s weird how I’ve seen multiple people say they’ve had their game crash three times. Liking at least three CZcams videos 4 counting this one. And I’ve had the game completely crash on me exactly three times. I’ve pretty much stopped playing after finishing the postgame for a a few days at this point
I dont see the big deal as a hard crash only losses a minute or two if you don't disable autosave..
Its not good but does it really affect anything...no
