  • KastKing Sharky III Spinning Reel 2000-5000 - amzn.to/2DfeULi
    Aloha Hui, today we do our first full fishing reel review in which we take a complete look at the brand new 2018 KastKing Sharky III Spinning Reel. This reel's price is set at just about $50, well under $100, and we try to answer the question, is this the BEST spinning reel for $50 or less in 2018? I have got to use the Sharky III in the 5000 size for about 10 or so fishing hours, most of which was spent casting out large 50-100 gram lures here in Hawaii. After giving it some solid test time and putting the Sharky 3 through some saltwater action, we take the KastKing Sharky III piece by piece and explain all that is new and old. This review should be good for the KastKing Sharky III 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000, the only sizes yet available in the Sharky 3. KastKing did their homework on this spinning reel, and I hope our review of the Sharky III helps you to decide if this reel rely is or is not the best $50 reel of 2018.

    I bought 2 of the 6000 sharky III baitfeeders and I gotta say, I have no complaints whatsoever. They have handled up to 40lb carp, which are hard fighting freshwater fish, with no problem! Love my reels.

    this reel is a good reel for the price point. the 5000 size of this reel managed to pull in a summers worth of Salmon in Alaska, even a 30lb King Salmon. My only complaint is that Okuma Ceymar is in this same price point and holds up to the challenging conditions of glacier silt or a rocky/sandy beach and salt water and fresh glacier water. My Sharky 3 needed full maintenance before the summer was over. The Okuma reel lasted 3 years before I even considered any maintenance to the reel. But the reel has not let me down when I have hooked up to any of my fish.

    The reel is fantastic and I highly recommend buying one of these reels. The only problem that was also covered In this video was the drag cap. When I took my drag cap off I wasn’t able to put it on correctly the first time which negated the ability for my drag system to work. After I learnt how to snap it back into place there is and was never any issues with this reel. I’ve had the reel for 3 years now using it on all kinds of salmon. This reel is a 4.5 star out of 5 for price point.

    Damn son. I have had a sharky baitfeeder for 2 years now and so far the only thing thats shown wear is the paint. Fantastic reel, insanely smooth.. One can argue TO smooth. When i first got it i switch from a black max and had trouble positioning my bale for casting.. I would always go too far and since it was literally anti reverse i couldnt back it up any.. So far the biggest fish its caught is a 35 pound blue cat on freakin 20lb mono, the drag is top notch. The reel size is 30

Its been told that when landing a large fish the neck gives a bit and it doesn't feel sturdy. • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  Před 6 lety

      The should be a medium to medium heavy if you are using it for dunking wit this reel. Honestly anything rated above 20# should be fine with proper rod use. Let the reel fight the fish and use the rod to boost only.

    • @popaki9484
      @popaki9484 Před 6 lety

      Shaka Fishing what do you mean dunking? Haha I take that literally lol. Thank you for the advice. So to be clear I can buy their rods that’s rated for 8-14 line wt.(lbs) and put a 20# braided line and be just fine as long as it’s rated for medium to medium heavy? Of course using this same reel. Just wanna know what kind of rod to get. I want a 6’6” for kayak fishing both lake and salt water but I am confused when the rod is rated at medium with a max line wt of 14. What does that mean for the line # I choose? And what is the max line # of the reel? Can you simplify for me please? Thank you! Xoxo

    • @ucingacia0
      @ucingacia0 Před 6 lety

      Kali M. 8-14 line weight means to withstand 8-14lbs force while fish is fighting basicly if a fish weight is 8lbs it can turn into more than its weight it while resisting .. that could almost double the weight depends on how powerful fish type u get.. so if u think fish gonna be max at 8lbs then that is the perfect line wt rod, so think of the 1st number resemble the target fish weight and if u hav to fight fish more than ur max line wt rod means u need to know how to release high tension while fightin the fish or u could play the drag on the reel if its too strong it will scream spooling

    I've been using the KastKing green 20 LB braid line back bay fishing catching bluefish and it's a surprisingly good quality line, for a low price.I recently bought the New Conflict II 5000 composite reel made by Penn and to my disappointment the CNC gears in those reels lost their smoothness in a short time and they buzz & vibrate through the reel on the retrieve. This Sharky is a light composite reel and resembles the Daiwa BG 4000 air rotor reel, I saw other reviews on CZcams for the Sharky III stating the reel is water resistant, and that the gears are very smooth I can't sample the reel because it's not sold over the counter, are the gears smooth ? I'd like your opinion on how the gears feel on retrieve with this reel. So far I'm getting a good bang for the buck for KastKing braid, it casts far and I've been casting tin lures on the surf in the back bay catching big bluefish like crazy for the past week with no wind knots the line boke in a little and it feels and casts better every time I use it. I've been checking out rave reviews for this reel by other guys rating the Sharky III on CZcams it looks like a reel that I would actually enjoy fishing with. THKS....

    quick question, i just recently bought a sharky 3 5000 and like mentioned in this video whenever i try to get the bail to close automatically it sticks but unlike yours in the video mine never gets set back down by itself. do i have a defective unit? i have tried opening the reel and re aligning the bail spring but nothing seems to work.

    • @grandwonder5858
      @grandwonder5858 Před 5 lety +1

      You supposed to close your bail manually, not simply close it by simply reeling it in! That's how you mess a reel up real quickly! All reels should have their bails closed manually if you want them to last!

    Good vid King Kapono! Informational commentary so good u made me pick up a Sharky 3 3000 size! just spooled it up yesterday with 20 lb kastking superpower braid.One thing I noticed though, I bot a150 yard braid spool and filled up the reel spool up to 1/8th inch from edge as you guys recommend, but still had a lot of line leftover on the braid spool, is that normal?the specs say it should take 219 yards of 20lb braid, but there is still 20 yards leftover on the braid spool which would mean the reel only took 130 yards? is this common?

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  Před 4 lety

      You can run it a bit closer to the lip of the spool. The closer you get the more likely it seems to me that the line can get bird nested during retrieval for most reels. If the spool says 219 it should take about that much. You brought up a great point though, I have never actually measured our any of my reels and seen if the claims line up to reality.

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  Před 4 lety

      Are you sure it says 150 yards of braid.

    • @mytwinbabies1
      @mytwinbabies1 Před 4 lety

      Yeppers Sir! confirming it was 150 yards KK brand braid spool. This all started when I first spooled in 70 yards of 8 lb mono as backing (following KK's published reel capacity specs >>> 20lb/220yds for braid = 8lb/220yds for mono, so 220 capacity less the 150 braid means I need 70 yds mono). Putting in 70 yds of mono already placed me near the halfway mark of the reel so it was obvious there was no way I can put in another 150 yards. I tossed out the mono and just spooled the braid directly and still got leftover. Much mahalos!

    Nice review I'd like KastKing to make an Ultralite version of this reel weighing 7.5 ozs or less I'd buy 2 of them 4 sure an pair them both with a Fenwick HMX Rod. I can't find any cons against this reel but a Ultralite Version would be Boss. Id like to see them put sealed bearings in this reel in the future. Ultralite version is a must tho.

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  Před 6 lety

      Seeing a KastKing Sharky 3 in ultralight would be sick. I do not think this is the platform the company is aiming to do that with though. I think the KastKing Kodiak has a sub 2000 size reel. I expect they did not think there would be much of a market for a ultralight version which would have such a beefy drag system, idk how they would be usable together.

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  Před 6 lety

      Will you be casting baits or lures? The kastking sharky iii should be solid for both. Personally, if I am using a static bait to send out I will use a more heavy action rod, and for lures a more light action to get that extra spring to make casting more easy.

    • @megancooper3241
      @megancooper3241 Před 6 lety

    • @ShakaFishing
      @ShakaFishing  Před 6 lety

      Anything that starts to weigh above about 3 oz you want to step your rod up to a more heavy set, anything below that and a light action will likely feel more fun.
