- Introducing Si Mon Sci Comm Con! (it's not Clarkcon)
GET YOUR TICKET HERE!
Event link: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/si-mon...
(note: if you're a researcher and would like to give a talk at the event, the form to submit your application is on the Eventbrite page. Unfortunately due to the need to cover costs, speakers must purchase their own ticket, sorry!)
After more than twelve years of making videos, it's about time that I hosted a live event to bring this community together and talk about science! This September in my home town of Bath, I'll be hosting an afternoon of talks, socialising, and even an interactive TTRPG one-shot, all based around science and science communication. It would be great to see you there!

CLARKCON
CLARKCON
I would be supremely interested in this - only problem is I’m in New Zealand so I don’t think a TotallyNotClarkcon could be held near me 😂
TotallyNotClarkcon World Tour when?
I’m in Nz also shall we bowl over together :D
As long as it isn't in Auckland I'll be happy lmao
I'm doing my part
Also in New Zealand, would be dead keen!!
I hope someone cosplays as Fog, the best type of cloud
all the support Simon, been here since the oxford day in life :)
Clarkcon is gonna be lit!
Very, very cool! I'm not at all surprised this sold out so quickly! I would absolutely be interested in attending a future event. Although I live in the north east of England, I live on the East Coast main line, so London is relatively accessible for me, or at least more so than Bath! Newcastle is virtually next door so, if you're potentially thinking of a venue in the north, I would vote for Newcastle :)
Congrats for this Simon! Honestly, a scientific conference with a more "casual/entertainment" angle is a genuinely alluring concept. I would be super interested in participating in one if it were closer/more accessible to me.
If this event was not on the other side of the pond, I would definitely consider going.
I've been looking forward to visiting Bath and this is a wonderful excuse. See you in September!
First, congratulations Simon on have not Clarkcon. Second, I remember that Instagram poll and you've pulled this together really quick. I hope it goes well and I'm only sorry I can't attend.
I love the idea, but … already an appointment. I’ll be there next year. If you need a venue in the Netherlands (I believe you have a big Dutch audience???) i might be able to help you with a venue, half an hour from the German and Belgium border.
I really love the idea!!!!
I've never heard "That's the best name anyone could ever give an event ever" pronounced like "ridiculous" before - linguistics is so cool!
In Ireland and would absolutely love to attend something like this!
Seriously considered a flight from USA to UK for this until you said 100 tickets. Take this show on the road!
Please do one in the Netherlands and there will be people coming from there and Belgium and Germany and maybe even France.
Bought my ticket - see you there Simon! Best of luck with the planning, I'm sure it'll go great.
I will be there - and be square! (sweet Simpsons reference)
Sounds like the most astro-tastic event in the universe!
He he you said it, Phil!
So great seeing you back on screen mate! ❤
Damn Bath isn't too far at all, might grab a ticket 🤔🤔
Damn!
I'm interested but being based in the cold, barren Scandinavian wilderness... can't really skip across the pond for this one. Sorry.
I'd love to see you if you come to host something a bit closer to home.
This is awesome! I've booked my ticket and can't wait :)
Thank you and good luck with it!
Love this for you! And interested to hear how it goes 😊 (am in Boston so can't come myself!)
I'd imagine 100 tickets are going to go so fast....
Will you live stream the event, for those of us on different continents? Or at least record the events for us to watch later?
I second that, it would be great!!
That would be perfect
We had a conversation about streaming the event behind the scenes, and decided that for this first event we're going to keep things simple and not livestream it so we can focus on doing our first in person event well. But, if this goes well and we end up doing another event, we would like to livestream that.
Cool! I'd definitely be interested if you did this in Manchester.
yess manchester
This is really cool, tho I’m from America so perhaps you could livestream? But definitely interesting
I would 100% be interested in something like this! I can't attend this one because I can't teleport across the sea quite yet, but I'll be cheering you on from here in Toronto! I hope everyone who does attend has a blast!
Clarkcon 2023 lets gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This is going to be so awesome !!!
Brilliant! Looking forward to it
That sounds amazing! Congratulations on having not Clarkcon - shame I wont be able to make the Sep 3 date tho! If there was another event like it in the future, I would LOVE to attend (if I'm available anyways :P)
Good luck for the event! Unfortunately the date doesn't quite work for me (attending a wedding!) but this is so exciting. I hope it goes really well!
Yep, I was out of the country, a little annoying as I live in Bath and it would otherwise have been right on my doorstep
Fantastic! Keep up the good work. 😄
On the waitlist so fingers crossed. If I get a ticket, I shall attend in my wikicast t shirt 😄
Definitely interested. Hoping for a virtual event in the future!
this is such a great idea, wish i coulda attend!
I am in Denmark and a student at AU. I would love to promote the idea of you having a talk about making science and academia more digestable and entertaining through conveying information like you do through video.
I am a lingusitics student but I have become interested in your area of study because of the way you make it easily consumed and understood. I would like to think that what you do is the future of academic information in addition to the stream of articles.
How about a not-Clarkcon in Belgium? We're relatively centrally located for North-West Europe, and Brussels is quite easy to reach by international rail from France, Germany and The Netherlands. (and Belgium itself of course)
I'd love to have a not too big but also not tiny convention of eco-minded people nearby!
Would be coming from Ireland - would be greatly interested! Will try and book it this week.
This sounds SO much fun! I will join from Austria (maybe with my Master's thesis?) ! :D
Hope you gonna tour Europe and come to The Netherlands. Than I would be def interested.
Could you collaborate with Fully Charged Live to do a few talks and presentations at their events ?
Then you could join them on their events all over the world and come to Australia when they do their show here too
Yes
I would love to go, have joined the waitlist
Sci Comm Clark Con is gonna be crazy
I'm Danish so the journey itself would not be the problem but that its such a small event, if you do do a bigger event I be more than willing to safe up to go. if you make one closer to home that would also be lovely no pressure though and have a great time and let us know after if it went well what was good and bad what you would like to change in future event should they be forthcoming
I for one believe we should hold an event in a Nordic country yes yes
Ahhhhhh got my ticket! I'm so excited 😁
This sounds amazing but as a broke student I wont be able to cover the train cost. Definitely will be on the lookout for the next event, and hope this one is out of this world!!! 🎉
Pennsylvania, USA! Please come!!
lovely idea! could it be streamed? then ppl in the rest of the world can join too ☺️
This is going to be legen…wait for it…dary. LEGENDARY
In the future (future meaning next few years probably), it would be cool if you did something like this in the US. I'm not /currently/ there, but in the coming years I'll be traveling to the US for loads of personal reasons. I'd *DEFINITELY* come by if you hosted an event there, regardless of the state.
I'm in Belgium, and I'm entertaining the thought of coming over with the Eurostar only unfortunate I have work in the morning on Monday
Come to Dublin!
Ooh, I will actually be in the UK on that date due to being in London for a conference earlier in the week. Am I to assume from the thumbnail and the "join waiting list for tickets" that the event is already sold out? If so, have a great conference! if not I hope to see you there (assuming I can get the logistics to work).
Also come to Cork in Ireland!
Oh how I hope Kyle Hill picks up on this. Would for sure have something to offer to the event 🤞
I didn’t even know you had a discord 😄
That convention sounds good though I’m in Sweden which is a bit too far away….
Best of luck though!
Hey Simon! I wouldn't be able to attend as uni starts literally the next day, but I would love to be able to purchase access to video of all the talks and things (like a digital ticket if you know what I mean)!
'Bathtime with Simon'
could be a good name?
or land you on a register..😅😂
You should do a festival too!
It'll be intense.
Can't wait to see Simon in a Bath
Cool ⛄️ (thumbs up from Malaysia)
Man I can't believe he's putting on Clark con
Definitely expecting one in Denmark
Strange to hold a convention in a bath, but why not I guess... On a serious note, I'm sure it's going to be fantastic!
I live in Bath so I approve.
Clarkcon sounds way more better 😛😜
NOOO THEYVE SOLD OUT
it will be called clarkcon regardless.
i would love to come but getting down to bath from manchester isn't friendly on a student budget - i hope this comes up north soon!!
I'd be very interested in going to something like this, it's just a bit of a pain to get to Bath from Lancashire.
I live just across the north sea, so I imagine that I won't even try to be there, but I can still please the algorithm gods with a comment!
Woo!!! Clarkcon!!
I’d love to come see you, but I’m not near enough to Bath … or the UK … or Europe. Live stream, maybe?
Wow, it’s already sold out! If you decide to put on a bit of an event during Science festival or the Fringe in Edinburgh, I’ll have one of those tickets in an instant. In the meantime, will you be providing a highlight reel or will this all be behind closed doors?
Would love to go but am from Vancouver B.C
I'd be interested in this but i'm in Australia. Any chance of live-streaming / recording it?
I'd love to be there, but I'm sadly still stuck in Canada and probs can't get back home for then. Hopefully I'm getting back to the UK/Ireland for a PhD.
Bath is an excellent location for science communications. What a great idea. And TTRPG? Intriguing. How about satellite gatherings around the world linked by some form of online technology?
3:21 hindsight is gonna be 2020
I'm in Australia, coming next year? 😜
#FogGang will be out in force to support ClarkCon!!
Interested here in India 🇮🇳
Wondering if you could do something like this in London?
Mate, the name‘s clarkcon. There‘s no way around it xD
And i think the 100 tickets will be gone in minutes!
Much love, gl hf
I don’t live in the UK but I hope I can come
Why is everything I want to go to happening on the 2nd or the 3rd of September?? I can't go to this but I would love to go for the second one
Anyone should go in to a bath once a year.. at least
I wish I could reach barth but I live in jordan
Cool
I too would like to attend but I am in India.
Would like to know if the cause of wildfires in Canada. Is controlled fires effective or should we dampen forests before the fire season.
It would be more appropriate to have online conversations with experts. That format would keep the topic more documented.
Appologies, but I won't be able to attend. Bath is kinda not in the realm of possibility for me.
I would totally have gone but have a wedding the same day :(
What sort of talks would you be interested at this event? I've bought a ticket and I'm considering applying to give a talk, 3 minutes just seems so short haha
Bi-Mon-Sci-Fi-Con!
YES FINALLY!
It's a shame you're using EventBright as I don't like their Ts&Cs (something about passing on my data to third parties maybe), otherwise I was interested in going. Hope it goes well!
when does clark-con go global?
