Churrasco & 100 different dishes non-stop + homemade cocktails: it looks like you had the authentic Brazilian Christmas experience. And yes, we usually mix a lot of different dishes in the same plate at the same time and it doesn't have to make sense, we don't really care as long as it tastes good, so that checks out, lol. I've been Brazilian for 39 years (I'm going to live in Montreal next year) and I can confirm that you had the best traditional Brazilian barbecue. I can guarantee that all the food there is 6 stars just by looking at how they are cooking. Even the brick grill is traditional, found in millions of backyards in Brazil. Love and gifts are mandatory in all families, under any social class.

Merry Christmas to both of you and your lovely hosts! It was heart warming for me, Brazilians seem like really family people, just like in Romania! It's a joy to see so much welcoming people over there, but I was quite sure that this is the kind of attitude in South America. It would be funny to ask them how much Brazilian-Portuguese is mutually intelligible with Romanian language, as they seem, veeeery close :)
Hello! Romanian actually has no mutual intelligibility with the other Romance languages due to how isolated it has been through its evolution over the centuries. It also borrows a great deal of vocabulary from Slavic languages, which doesn't help at all, lol.
I'm a Brazilian linguist and other than Portuguese I also speak Spanish, French and Italian, and I can't even understand 20% of written Romanian and even less when it is spoken.
I try it do a Papanasi today (it was easy, except for not found some ingredients like sour cream - I needed to do that).
I watch the video in Romain language, a lot of words are very similar. But without a English subtitle, I couldn't undersand at all.

Another aspect. Home BBQ is always better than Steak Houses, you eat better, and you're not ripped off.
If a group of friends invites you to share the BBQ bill, it will be worth it. Because you will spend less than going out.

Really cool you got to spend Christmas with a family too! I will say that a lot of Brazilian families (like mine) do have more traditional Christmas food like hams, turkey and apple sauce. They obviously took a more potluck style approach, which also looked incredible. 6 star experience! 🙂

I see that brasilian traditional Christmas food is very similar with romanian's traditional food. You should try romanian pork belly, we call it slănină, or pomana porcului (pork alms) or cozonac with chocolate. Have fun!
and you really should try boeuf salad, yummy
I wouldn't call this traditional christmas in Brazil, it's common weekend food but not really christmassy. More traditional food would be small turkeys (called tenders), ham with cloves and a syrup sauce, rice (often with raisins on christmas), nuts, farofa, some kind of potato dish like fries, batata palha which is a stringy potato chip, potato salad, or cod with potatoes and of course panettone. But that's all rather heavy food for summer in Brazil, it's still traditional because it's what the Portuguese immigrants would have here, but nowadays a lot of people change their personal christmas dinner (which also is on christmas eve no christmas day) they had some common things on christmas but risotto and churrasco is definitely not traditional to christmas, Brazilians do tend to love both however.
The bacalhau is the opposite of fresh. I am 100% sure it was caught in Europe preserved in salt. The thing is portuguese and brazilian are pretty good at turning tough oversalted pieces of fish back into deliciousness.

The potatoes help absorb the salt and also make the cod (which can be pretty expensive) into a larger dish.

I was so moved by Ivana’s reaction to the gifts! And I’m so glad you guys got to have this experience and got to feel how we Brazilians like to make our guests feel like part of our family, even if we never met them in person before. This is straight up the Brazilian way of life. We just really enjoy sharing our culture with foreigners and we love when they like what they’re experiencing, and especially when they feel at home and comfortable with us. Oh you guys must come to São Luís, capital of Maranhão! The city historical buildings are amazing, the food is so good! Cuxa rice is my favorite ever! And from there you guys can go to Alcantara, Raposa, Lençóis Maranhenses, Tutoia, Delta do Parnaiba etc. In Delta there is a place to watch some red birds ( Guará) flying at sunset! It is stunning
