    I want this so badly as a setting on kindle. I can read words normally but this method seems to make words more readable for me. I think its a genius idea and hopefully Amazon implements this soon!

    If any one wants to test their reading speed by timing their read of the same content with regular text vs Bionic Reading, my suggestion is to read the Bionic one first, not the regular text at first go. We tend to read things faster the second time since our mind is already familiar with it. And, I've seen that many people online who have already mislead themselves by reading the regular text first then the Bionic second, and think the speed increase is due only to the formatting. If Bionic really is faster then reading regular text second should be a similar time or slower than the first read with Bionic.
    I really suggest reading multiple things and switching the order. Don't convince yourself too quickly by reading one page and assuming that will still follow through on longer content, or in a different narrative style.

    Interesting! I do find that reading, like anything else, has a lot to do with practice and habit. The more you read, the better and faster you become. In university I could read and process texts really quickly and afterwards fell out of practice and slowed down. As I’ve read more and more again over time, now I read a lot more and a lot faster than I ever did before. I’ve heard people say they speed up their reading with “immersion” reading as well, listening to the audiobook sped up while following along with a physical or digital copy.

      Absolutely. I read pretty quickly, probably since I have read so much ever since I was a child. The bionic text makes me feel a little dizzy. I already parse text by word groups, so I think this might be more useful for people who are slower readers to begin with. For me I think it just sort of confuses my established speedy reading system in my brain!

    I just ordered my first e reader (Paperwhite Signature) and never Heard of bionic reading. It actually looks like something that would help me as I think I'm very mildly dyslexic. But that sounds like too many confusing steps for an old guy. It will be interesting to see if they eventually just preinstall a bionic app so that you can just select the option from the menu. BTW, I really like your videos. They helped me learn why I might actually want an e reader vs just my Kindle app. Thank you for making all these videos!

    As someone with a form of dyslexia, bionic reading is an excellent feature! I wish it could be integrated easier, but considering it's such a small team that's understandable. It's not too inconvenient to convert everything online then upload it

Sounds interesting but I agree with you, too many steps. I like to pace myself and just enjoy the moment especially those great books. Thanks for sharing.

    It’s an interesting concept and I’m curious to try it. Until they bring this in as a font, I’ll just stick with custom fonts. As you mentioned, the barrier to getting the bionic formatted ebook to your ereader is a bit too high for me at the moment. I don’t want to fuss with it.

  • @seanferguson5460
    @seanferguson5460 Před 2 lety +3

    Interesting. I think I already read faster on my e-reader than I do on a paper book because the lines are spaced farther apart, therefore, I don't end up re-reading into the same line a second time or mentally fumbling around to keep the lines separate. Not certain of that but it may just be having the percentage count at the bottom motivates me to speed up.

    I have adhd. I can read fiction just fine, mostly because my brain is wired to seek interest, but required readings are like sanding my skin with sandpaper by hand. I can't focus, follow or understand anything, and it takes me three times the time it would take to a neurotypical (while books I'm interested in take me half the time). It's mentally painful. I'll try a sample and see if it really helps me follow and focus with more ease. If it does, it would make my life a thousand times easier

    When I have time, I'll have to see if there are any studies examining bionic reading. For me, it seems distracting as it disrupts from the normal flow of reading. But maybe if you get used to it, it'll be more efficient? I'll probably wait till it the process of bolding some letters is easier. It is an interesting concept though.

    I cant believe this existed the whole time. I tried to read many textes now to see if it's not placebo but it's not. It makes me read so much faster, I read faster than I could speak inside my head and I am looking forward to read books now, it is so much fun just to look on a page and absorbing all the words in seconds. I dont understand why you don't see a difference, but Im also an ADHD person and its like a game for me. I acutally love reading but I rarely do because I start to shift away with my thouhts

  • @deanbeswick3767
    @deanbeswick3767 Před 2 lety +3

    Hi there
    Interesting video, but why would you want to read faster ?
    I can listen to audiobooks at over double speed and can still understand them, but I find that I prefer to listen at between 1 and 1.3 times normal speed.
    If you want to read or listen to a book quicker you can just read a summary, although I suspect you would find this unsatisfying.
    While I’m reading I like to think about what I’m reading, it’s more complicated than just registering the words as quickly as possible.
    I suspect that bionic reading will be a short lived fad

    • @Markhypnosis1
      @Markhypnosis1 Před 2 lety +1

      Reading faster does not hinder comprehension or enjoyment at all. I practiced speed reading years ago and could read a 200 page book in a couple of hours with no reduction in enjoyment. Once you can process words and sentences that fast then it becomes normal.
