  • I always get asked why people should buy a Kindle when their iPad can do the same thing. Today, I'll tell you five reasons why getting a Kindle is worth it!
    0:30 - #1 Distractions
    2:41 - #2 Having a dedicated reading device
    4:32 - #3 Our eyes
    7:24 - #4 Water resistance
    8:12 - #5 More Portable

Hi. I think you left out battery life. It is amazing to read for hours and days without being bothered by having to interrupt it because it needs recharging. This was a major factor for me when I was out there looking for a reading device. By the way, awesome video. Thank you!!!

Agree with all those points. I’ll only read textbooks (and some chess books) on an iPad. Easier to navigate and see colour diagrams. And I do feel more comfortable reading on an eReader in public vs an iPad for the same reasons. Once I accidentally left my kindle on a machine in the gym. No one took it. Not so sure the same would have happened with an iPad.
Also, two days ago I was reading outside and a light rain started. Since my reader was waterproof I kept reading (I was waiting for cycle store to replace a bike part). If it was an iPad I’d put it away.
Btw, did you say you store your Kindle in a pocket next to your “gun” or “gum”?
Reading on an eReader mimics a book so well that when I read an actual book I’ll tap or push a page with my thumb to automatically “turn” the page. Takes me a minute or two to adjust back to the old way of turning a page.

I ordered a kindle from amazon on prime day all the way to Kenya thanks to your videos. It's the best tech I;ve bought so far. Love it! Thank you

I got the previous gen Kindle Basic for a steal (around 55 dollars). Can't say I'm too bothered by the resolution at that price point 😆 I also contacted Amazon's customer service and they removed the ads for free (maybe because my country is not covered by Amazon officially).
However, for all the upgrades I think the new price is worth it.

I read on an iPad mini 6. It’s great. I just put in do not disturb. Adjust the lighting and you’re off to the races. Books that have illustrations throughout you can see in color etc. kindle feels stale to me personally. They need to release one that can support color IMO.

It's not that comfortable to hold for a long period of time (larger and heavier), like you would with the Kindle. That said, I use the tablet when I read comic books or graphic novels. But with general books, it's Kindle all the way.

@@TimeIdle to each their own. Kindles aren’t worth the money to me. They are so far behind in tech. A novelty device.

Great video. I agree with the kindle being a better reading device. I remember thinking that the kindle was pointless years ago, but once I bought the kindle keyboard and tried it
 I was sold.

ATOMIC HABITS!!! I really love that book! It was one of the first ones I loaded into my Kindle, too, which I just got a week ago. ❀ Getting a Kindle has really improved my reading habit - I find I’m not as distracted and I breeze through pages faster than ever.

The problem I have is that some of the text books that I want to read are not accessible on my kindle. I can purchase them through Amazon, but mathematics textbooks can only be viewed on the kindle app through my iPad and not on the kindle device. I gather it has something to do with illustrations or formulas not being able to be displayed on a kindle. Have you come across this?

Hi, how should I use my kindle battery, should I charge my kindle battery 100% and use it until 1% for good life of battery or charge battery up to 85% and drain until 15% and charge again what is the best way to increase battery life.

I don’t enjoy reading from my IPad. It strains my eyes. As you stated, there are too many distractions on an IPad or IPhone.

I thought the point number #3 - Eye damage - would be the first and most important point. It was for me. The screen on the kindle would cause less damage than the regular screen. All the rest of it can be managed with phones and tablets. Also with travel you missed an important point - your kindle battery can last for a month vs ipad battery which wouldnt last more than 24hrs.

I tray my kindle like crap. I toss it here and there vice setting it down gently. I keep it in my back pocket and don’t worry about it. I shove it in my bag without a care in the world. My iPad needs a little gentle love to make sure it doesn’t break but I also find it rather resilient. I always travel with both. iPad in place of a laptop and kindle to read.
Magazines though. That on the iPad wins hand down!

If I want to read then other apps will not distract me! For portability and functionality I would travel with just an iPad rather than iPad and kindle. If you were referring to the kindle keyboard (3rd gen I think) then I would agree with you, love my keyboard way more than the current kindle paper white. So much so I am going to get the battery replaced and ditch the paper white altogether. The current kindles are awful and I am moving away from kindle and amazon due to their poor customer service. I am in the process of removing the DRM from all my amazon books so they can be read on other apps and devices.

I retired my iPad when I got a iPad Pro... the idea was the 2 year old iPad would be an reader option.. it's next to the bed.. I've used it several times.... but 99% of the time I use my old Kindle Paperwhite that is in need of getting a newer one. I think my Kindle is 2012 or 2014... 2nd gen of Paperwhite? I'm looking at Kindle Paperwhite Signature just for wireless charging... or even the Kobo Forma.. for the larger screen. no idea. your other video on Kobo surprised me that Kobo does not support amazon kindle store... I just assumed they where agnostic like iPad. The Kobo sounds like it has much better sorting capability. something I HATE on Kindle... It's like a senior citizen setting the clock on a VCR... too difficult... (reference to people who where kids in the 80's and all of our parents had VCR's with flashing time on the screen).

You can just make it so different focus modes turn on depending on the app you're on. So let's say you open up Kindle, a focus mode will automatically turn on if you enable it. And if you leave the Kindle app it will automatically turn off. So I don't think that specific argument of "you don't always have DND on" or "you will get distractions *while* reading" is great since you *don't have to* manually turn it on, everything works without you having to do anything and so you can read without distractions. I also want to add that if your focus mode on your iPad is on, then it will automatically turn on for every other apple device as well, potentially decreasing distractions even more than a kindle would if you had your phone next to you where it could notify you. But you do have a point that if you don't already have the app open, then there could be more distractions since you will to make a constant effort to get into the app. Though I think you could easily argue that is flawed as well since you can just delete the apps that distract you (but I know this easier said than done for some people .)

Thank you for doing this video. I have been debating about this forever. I already have the kindle app on my phone and Ipad and I am having a hard time justifying spending more money for a dedicated reading device. The whole distraction argument resonated for me. I do often get side tracked into looking at TicTok or something.

I *DO* read in the pool! and I use my Kindle Paperwhite. I've had to "leap" onto my float in the pool, and invariably, my Kindle get submerged in the process. No worries! It's a Kindle, and not an iPad! 🙂 I can get some vitamin D (sun), while getting some reading in.

Do your kindles all sync automatically? So if you were reading in your bed, and woke up the next morning and wanted to read on your couch, does the couch kindle know where you left off?

    • @dinglebat63
      @dinglebat63 Pƙed rokem

The couch kindle will ask if you want to jump to the latest read page. I read kindle on my phone when I'm commuting and a notification pops up on whatever I'm using asking if I want the latest read page.

I got a nook tablet years ago with the intention to read but ended up doing everything but. Same thing happened when I got a fire tablet.
Side note. I don't have any devises in my bedroom. that room is only for sleeping. Even my phone stays in the living room.

The downside to Kindle and other major e-readers is the formatting is anchored to that device. I can’t read Nook Books on a Kindle. I can’t read Kobo Books on a Kindle. I can’t read BookWalker Books on a Kindle
and so on. You have to be heavily invested in the Kindle (or whatever digital book retailer’s) ecosystem 🙈💩

other reasons maybe : 1 kindle are lightweight, 2 you dont have to charge them two times a day, 3 they don't have personal information u can loose them without worrying about your pics or visa cards. 4 they never heat up during reading 5 you dont need to take charger with it to your job, ect
