The older man was absolutely wrong to stop their tube. But.....them teens were wrong taunting him instead of leaving.
Drunk and kept at the man.
However they had no weapon he had opportunity it seems to walk away. Actions have consequences.
Those teens need held accountable as well clearly after seeing this video. Name calling is what children do. These kids obviously had no respect for a drunk older man. I don't believe he had intended to kill but felt threatened by a mob of drunk kids. I don't believe he should get life in prison. BOTH SIDES ARE WRONG.
Drunk kids like that would get to any adult However being the adult his wife and him should of Walked away. Call 911 if you feel threatened. I don't understand why his wife didn't at least try to stop him and get him to walk away.

I was yelling this at the screen! He was also wrong about an earlier autopsy. The coroner wrote that as the cause of death based on what Chad told her.

Absolutely right. We should always consider people's backgrounds and mental well-being before judging their actions. It's concerning how easily situations can escalate, especially when there's a large group involved. The safety and well-being of everyone involved should be our top priority.

Okay?? And?? Let’s say he really was a frail old man who was legitimately afraid for his life. Why did he not take the numerous opportunities to walk away? Why did he throw the first punch and escalate the situation?Let’s say he HAD to use his knife. He could’ve waved the knife around to scare them off. He could’ve made it clear that he was ready to defend himself if they came near him. He didn’t need to stab 5 people and kill somebody to adequately defend himself in this situation. This went above and beyond self defense, regardless of if the threat posed by the heckling was real or perceived.
This is the first footage I've seen of apple river and immediately I am invested in catching up. I saw more than a couple of shoves, I saw a punch to the face when he was on his back. I personally have a fear of groups of teens (but then I'm a disabled female), yes they might have been unarmed but how many people are killed by a single punch to the head, let alone the potential for 20 of them to start raining blows, mob mentality is a real threat

The video is so difficult to watch, however, the fact that that crowd were bullyng and attacking that man, for whatever the reason, probably made him fear for his life. I don't blame him, knowing that youngsters are being raised with a total disregard for older people, whether if they are teachers, or even their own parents. I'm glad he was armed, even if they were unarmed, they could have beat him to death or drown him. He didn't seem violent at first, only when they started yelling at him. He could have calm them down if he had been allowed to speak. I hope the jury can see a clearer picture of what happened. BTW I loved the joke of the doe

I have the impression the older man was punched in the head first. As the result of the first attack he did fall in the water. Than he was able to stand and the second guy did immediately jump on him. At this moment he did used his arm against the guy, who died at the end. This is just my opinion after watching the video several times. It was hard to watch. Specially seeing the guy passing away without "his friends" supporting him. Peace and love for everyone.
Absolutely tragic that a young man died. No debate there. However, it is clear that the man in the water looks intimidated and concerned for his safety; on top of wanting to find his cellphone. Those young people AND THERE WERE MANY, kept taunting him, pushing and shoving him around; that's really evident in the video. They were extremely disrespectful. I'm in my 60s and I would have felt the same being surrounded by that many. I have to say that back in my younger days we would have helped him look for his phone; not behaved as they did. I know for sure that my own now adult children would not have behaved that way either. We live in such a different world now. If this happened in a state that does have 'stand your ground' defence, I think he'd have a good case for self defense.

If you slow it down, you can see that they’re telling him to leave, he quietly pulls out the knife but keeps it low by his side so no one notices. He never says a thing. Seconds after he surreptitiously pulls the knife he punches the girl in the face. The guys then push him down and literally, as that is happening, is when he starts stabbing. It’s wild.
