A dear friend played this song for me when I was 17. I was going off to college and we both knew we would never be as close as we were in that moment. We are both old and grey now. I never really did return. I was sure I would. I guess I knew back then I just didn't want to accept it. That moment in time will forever be in my mind. I love you Al.
I heard this song when my dad died at age 14 yrs 1984 I played it every night now my mum gone to heaven I love this song cause I will run to see them again 😢 i be waiting ! Miss them both
I got the tape, record, and CD...Which one are you the one that stayed home or left? Some are both. But do make sure you come back home. It's much better than being away. Ingrid Budge may you find Peace. Take care and God bless and keep you safe........Shalom my sister in Christ!!!!
This song defined my childhood.. as the black sheep. Still waiting for most the family to accept me but whatever. Defining childhood memory. 9 or 10 realizing I just don't fit in and ultra Christian family was ashamed already. Now 40s and a grandparent. My kid and grandkid(s) will not feel this. Just be you.
i fell in love with this song! i see it from the Prodigal son story, but also about two loves separated, hoping one day the other wll come back. just so beautiful.. a tear is starting to form in my eye...
The music is very 80s... but the message is timeless. If you fear you've pushed too far: the fact that you fear that means that you haven't pushed too far, and the Father is still waiting, waiting to run and meet you and scoop you up and enfold you in his arms.
Right now i'm 21 years old, Janiuary 6th gonna become 22 years old. And i'm glad that i found Amy Grant. Her songs are majestic, wonderfull and outstading, reaching the deepest places of mine heart!. Love her music! I m depressive personality, suffereing from loneliness, and no one from mine relatives knows this fact, but this kind of music helps me to become a normal person, to be near the god and to prevent from doing something terrible. Her voice is like an angel and her songs gives me hope, than not whole is a bad world, and the best things comes for those persons who waits patently. Life is so good! People, enjoy it, because we dont know what going to be tommorow! Love you, Amy Grant and your the most amazing songs! And THANK YOU. Sorry for bad english
You know what? You are already an eternal being with God, and if God has chosen you, how can you be truely lonely? You can't. As a young person, run to what is uncomfortable such as Christian youth fellowship and bible study. Trust anyone who earns your respect. Then, who knows, maybe you will find a deeper sense of purpose and a deeper connection to others and to God too. Worked for me, although I confess God had to send others after me for me to choose fellowship and growth. This really saved me from horrible gloom. This very music is one of the things God brought me over 30 years ago Praise the Lord! Listening I could escape to God's world and seek Him so much better. Yes, thankyou Amy Grant!
Lucas- Even Christians can get depressed- we are human- and your English is perfect. I’m glad you discovered Amy Grant at your age- Her songs, her voice are so comforting and inspiring. There is nothing wrong with you - I too am a depressive and I UNDERSTAND YOU- AND I LOVE YOU LUCAS. I pray to God you are still around and let me know you read this. Peace, love and Prayers my brother! XOXOXOXO, Patti
WunderOps I know you mean well- But unless you have had clinical depression - pls don’t “push it aside” as if his human feelings don’t matter- Yes- I am probably about your age - you need to learn how to have a little more compassion and understanding. Our young ppl have it much harder than we did and we need to be empathetic to that. I don’t mean any disrespect - life is not simple as you make it out to be. You remember how you felt back then and so do I. We need to put ourselves back in our old shoes and understand from our battles back then. Sensitivity and love goes a longer way than “how can you be lonely? you can’t” which Offend me at the age of 50 because I remember what it was like and you don’t diminish what the young people are feeling. They have it a lot harder than we did and we must be more fully aware of that- & approach with understanding and respect and compassion and love- Not saying you can’t be lonely because you can even with Jesus by your side. We are all human with Real sensitive emotions we have to remember that. Peace, love and respect!!! 🙏🏼☮️❤️
Lukas...hang in there and don't give up. A song I listened to while I was in the hospital for 7 weeks was "Friend for Life". It's on you tube by Margret Becker. Go listen to it...it helped me...I think it will help you. Take care and Shalom!!!
After over 30 years with living Christian faith, still one of the most unbelievable things to me is how God could find a way to reach me through a girl. NEVER would have expected that. Hearing Amy Grant for the first time changed my life. She was a peer but unlike any other...able to represent what I KNEW was the authentic faith and able to present at the same time the meaningfulness in religion. I found life in the Christian message prior to hearing this music, but Amy Grant opened my eyes and heart to the power of the message, and I will be forever grateful to God and to her. Thinking of ALL the people who have changed my life while I listen! Thankyou!
@sunlitrain : I agree completely. I actually lived out this song in 1991, when my best friend joined the AF and I really thought I never would see him again. But My God had bigger plans, and April will be 19 years that we have been married!!
This has always been my favorite amy song. I find it so visual, I always see someone writing a letter at a big oak desk, staring out the window and crying
It isn't necessarily a romantic love somone is waiting on. I used to sing this song thinking of my brother who once he graduated from high school was out of my life, and also was very lost. "And even if, you never do return..." I think I saw my brother once from the time I was 17 until his passing at age 35 in a car accident. He was in a coma for 4 months before he died. I was able to touch his body in the hospital, but not really able to connect with him. I can't sing this without tears.
@ShellyDZ99 This song is actually based out of the Bible story of the Prodigal Son. The true message is that God has a father's heart that never ever dies. And no matter who you are, what you've done, or how much you ignore Him, His love for you will never change. There is nothing we can do to ever be loved less. He ever waits. Like a parent with a child that left home and never came back.... Unconditional Love is Real.
Just waiting to see a special friend who talked me out of suicide 6 1/2 years ago. I've still never met her, but I'm patiently waiting for the right time. ♥️🙏♥️
i love this song!!! this was from unguarded (last song) in 1985. beyond the prodigal son story, it's about someone waiting for their love to return. to me this is so romantic.
I think this is the first time I've heard this song. It's very touching. I've rediscovered Amy Grant and get so blessed and touched by her songs. Thanks for posting!
Thanks for uploading this! :-) I love this song!!! Also, does anyone have the other version of this song - the one that has an orchestra in the background? Hope someone can post that too... :-)
it isn't about a romantic relationship. It is from the bible....but, for example, my friend J and I both suffer from depression, and I think of her =, hoping she will call me when she hits bottom, vice versa. I also thought of my best friend from high school when I heard this.
Brings back memories from childhood back when I first heard this song... it's just a lovely today as it was way back then.
Love this song. I was 18 yers old when I hear for firt time this amazing song.
