Lyrics:
Shoulder to the wheel
For someone else's selfish gain
Here there is no choosing
Working the clay
Wearing their anger like a ball and chain
Fire in the field
Underneath the blazing sun
But soon the sun was faded
And freedom was a song
I heard them singing when the day was done
Singing to the holy one
Lead me on
Lead me on
To a place where the river runs
Into your keeping, oh
Lead me on
Lead me on
The awaited deliverance
Comforts the seeking...lead on
Waiting for the train
Labelled with a golden star
Heavy hearted boarding
Whispers in the dark
"Where are they going-is it very far?"
Bitter cold terrain
Echoes of a slamming door
In chambers made for sleeping
Forever
Voices like thunder in a mighty roar
Cry to the lord
Man hurts man
Time and time, time again
And we drown in the wake of our power
Somebody tell me why

Unsung hero anyone ?
THANK YOU!!! I am SO TIRED of people still blaming Amy for the breakup of her marriage. As a Christian, my mother put up w/the same abuse for 17 years until my father held her at gunpoint for hours and people STILL called her a hypocrite for leaving. You cannot expect anyone to spend the rest of their lives in an abusive environment w/a drug addict (My dad was on cocaine, too). Amy and Vince are happy and have created a beautiful life together. Leave them alone
😩😥😔
I am in a 29 year long abusive marriage...
I've been a fan of Amy's since I was 10 years old and now, I'm 50. Listening to her music is why I became a Christain. I noticed Amy and Gary never seemed as close as her and Vince are. I think Gary was jealous of her fame but, her and Vince really seem to be in love. You can tell when they sing the House of Love together and, when they look at each other. Why would you stay in a relation if it's not working out? Jesus wants us to be happy so why would he want that?
@@cindythecatwoman1601 - Jesus doesn’t want you to happy but to holy and to find joy despite your circumstances. Gary was unfaithful to Amy, so she could leave. But don’t make an unbiblical argument.
When the heart contains good faith, and the mind is free of prejudices, or confused ideas, life is appreciated more, and the truth is seen with greater clarity. In contrast, when the heart bears skepticism, or there are vanity, and errors in the mind, all appears confused and even the light itself appears as darkness.
We must Seek truth: for the truth is life, but seek it with love, with humility, with perseverance, and faith. Pray, and in your prayer, ask questions of the eternal source, and in meditation you will receive the ray of the eternal source of infinite light. Do not expect to receive all of the truth in one single instant. There are many men that have walked, and spent much time in search of the truth, studying and trying to penetrate all the Mysteries, but which have not yet achieved their desired goal yet. The Eternal source is telling you, "Love one another." Can you imagine the reach of that supreme commandment? All the life of man would be transformed if you lived by that doctrine. Love alone is that which can reveal the truths of the wickedness of the Flesh, because Truth is the origin of our lives, and of all creation. So we must Seek the truth with zeal, and seek the meaning of life. Love strengthens you in the good, and you shall see how, step by step, all that is false, impure, or imperfect shall fall from you. Each day, be more sensitive to the Devine light. Only then you will be able to ask the eternal source directly, all that you wish to know, and all that is necessary for your spirit in order to reach the supreme truth. Truth of the eternal source that comes in search of men, for they have been unable to come to it. It is the Devine spirit that voice that I comes to reveal to you, for truth is the reality, he wishes all of you to enter. But how can you find the truth, unless you first reject all of your former beliefs and return to your childhood? We must start completely over, and at times, to find truth it is necessary to renounce all that you know and possess, to renounce even your self. All of the vain, the materialistic tendency and for the one's that lack effort cannot know truth. Nobody that does not destroy the walls of deceit within which they live. It is necessary that they dominate their passions and weaknesses to look directly at the Eternal source of light. Blessed is He who seeks truth, because He is thirsty for love, light, and kindness. Seek, and you shall find; seek truth, and it shall come out to meet you. Continue to meditate, and continue asking questions of the Mysteries of the universe, and the eternal source will answer, for the eternal source has never remained quiet or indifferent before He who eagerly asks. How many who seek the truth in books, among the wise, and in the diverse sciences. Only children of light will end up finding it in themselves, since in the depths of each man, the Eternal source has deposited a seed of eternal truth.
I thank God For Amy her life and Her music, her song "Love Of Another Kind " came on the radio many years ago when i was planing to commit suicide, I am hear because Her song's and life have caused me to want to know Jesus.. Love to you Miss Amy and prayers always..
So glad you are here, and hope you're doing well. God bless!
Thanks for sharing this, Gina...I can relate!
Amen, and I hope now 10 years later you are happy and doing well.
wonderful
Praise the Lord Ms. Gentry-thank you for sharing!
I hope some day (if you haven’t already) you’ll share your testimony w/AG.
I'm just going to go ahead and leave this here... This is the greatest piece of contemporary Christian music ever written. Period.
You are missing out on SO much. I would bet money that Amy would agree.
Not even the best song on the album, but I respect your opinion.
I’d definitely put it in the Top 10 or at least top 25...
This Song soars
w Pathos and Spirit,
Is brilliantly composed,
And is clearly more
“ROCK” sounding than
Nearly any Contemporary Christian song ever!
The band’s playing is fantastic and with
AMY soaring in the chorus,
And storytelling in the Verses,
The Backing Vocals sounds like our fellow Believers -
Thus reminding Us of greater humanity in this World 🌍 🌏🌎
The fact that they wrote about
Slavery in Verse 1
And Jewish Holocaust in
Verse 2 -
Is Huge. Most Christian “Praise” songs try to be
Warm and Fuzzy - and this
is clearly Next Level:
Don’t Repeat The Darkness
And to Elevate Our
Spirit ✨
Mind 🧖♂️
Heart ♥️
Strypers soldiers under Gods command is the best Christian song ever , but this is close
Absolutely agree! I’ve followed Christian music for decades and have seen Amy in concert 13 times. This is absolutely an anthem! This is is musical genius!
This song is powerful. Many people don't realize she references the holocaust in this song at 1:42. Critics used to say her songs had little substance but if they just listened closer they would've heard the strong messages. I think people judged her harshly bc she was a young female artist that appealed to not only Christian music lovers but also teenage rock n roll & pop lovers. This song is still so great.
You are apparently right!!🤯🤯 This song is entirely about the holocaust.. "Labeled with a golden star"... "Chambers made for sleeping for ever"
thankyou for this insight
@@MrSMITCHERS thankyou , I went back and reread the lyrics with new eyes.
Your right and They do the very same thing with God’s words and the message in the Bible as well they miss it yet so very quick to judge and yet they are so wrong they are lost souls
God gave Amy the Holy Spirit and she’s fulfilling his will in our lives blessed our lives and we lift up and praise God for blessing our lives and the world with the gift of Amy touching our lives she has No idea how much she means to this world and the lives she has touched
She truly is Gods spiritual Angle
As we lift our prayers up and praise our Father God with Love
Amen
It took me getting to be an adult before I realized
Hands down my favourite Amy Grant song....simply brilliant from start to finish.
There are some songs that pack such power they bring tears to the eyes over many many listens. This entire album is incredible. It takes me back to a wonderful period for me with great friends and a church that really guided me. Amy and LMO was a huge part of that year.
one of the greatest songs ever written by Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith. The guitar work by Dan Huff is incredible as well. a perfect record. classic song
Definitely for sure. Awesome song and big kuddods to Dann Huff for an amazing guitar work
Around the same time Dan Huff lead the band Giant, he is such an underrate musician.
... and very underrated..
Dann Huff's incredible playing on Lead me on is described here czcams.com/video/hG07-D45s6c/video.html forward to 16:26
Dann is really underrated although he has many acts as a session player for Michael Jackson, Madonna and many more.
The same Dan Huff of Giant?
"Man hurts man, time and time again. And we drown in the wake of our power. Somebody tell me why?"
I will......We drown because we alone are not the deal...we need a higher Power...that higher power according to Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant and my own understanding as well as my Girlfriends...Jesus Christ!!! He is the alpha and the Omega......
Don't answer to me. I didn't write the lyric.
I remember when this song broke into the Hot 100. It was a far different style from her previous pop-radio efforts such as "Find A Way" or "Next Time I Fall" but what a powerful piece of music. The lyrics alone are both astounding and heartbreaking. One of the very few songs that this many years later can still reach into my soul and bring tears. Amy, so numerous are the people you've touched through your artistry and ministry. May you be richly blessed in return.
You are speaking for me 100%!! LMO is one of those once in a lifetime songs that never gets old. I would love to perform this myself but it devastates me every freaking time I try. This is Aug 2023, 35 years later and I’m still in awe of this recording.
For all the Targeted Individuals...Keep faith, keep walking ahead, don't give up. God is with us. Fear not.
A timeless masterpiece.
I remember when this album was released. In Christian music, it was HUGE!!!!
Nothing bigger before or after. It still holds the title as highest selling Christian album of all time!
@@samking6335 wow really? I remember driving around with her cassette tape playing when I was 18
In my list of the most underrated songs of all time, this is easily in the top 10.
I love this song it does something to me every time I listen to it
The Holy Spirit my sister
Me also, Michelle.
The Holocaust is such a moving subject
Have you heard the entire album? Amazing from beginning to end. I loved it so much as a kid. Revisiting it today. 💖
@@downtheblvd1481 I actually have the cassette tape. I listen to it often
Wow. Powerful performance. This song never fails to give me chills (and this is coming from someone non-religious).
Maybe your more “religious” than you think. You can be very spiritual and not at all religious. If that song moves you I think God is talking to you….let Him lead you on, brother!
The Holocaust is a very heavy moving subject
@@BethyKable There is no "god"
Absolutely. I'm not religious at all but damn.. those lyrics.. she has a way with evoking emotions held deep. This and I will remember you. Makes me think of my dear mom who sadly died from cancer in 2012.
when i was first baptized,,,she was my inspiration only in my 20's then...i was on fire then...30 years later i am so glad i can find her here and not go out and spend money cuz i don't have any.
This might be the most powerful song about human oppression ever recorded. I've loved this song ever since I first saw this video in the mid-90s.
I cannot believe these critics who called Amy's music "shallow". I like this song... it packs a powerful punch and tells it like it is. It's like a heartfelt prayer to God to lead us where "the river runs into His keeping" and trusting in Him for His deliverance and comfort and peace in the midst of the storms of life. This song has a great message; I think more need to hear it.
They snitch and gossip and bear false witness and sit on their high horses and call her lukewarm apostate. She has done more to lead Sinners to the Cross for the past 40 plus years than any Televangelist because she doesn't pretend to be a Saint.
Timeless. Classic. Just like her talent, and the Creator of the Universe she sings about. Bravo!
Beautiful lady, beautiful scenery, beautiful song. I still come back here a decade later.
I would love to see a reconceived video for this track as it holds so many visuals and deep messages. It’s a timeless song I’ve loved since day 1.
First Christian pop song I ever heard, after getting saved....it really spoke to me...love you Amy!!
You must be a great person!
I started attending a Christian church in the Amazon, and the pastor’s daughter gave me a tape “ The Collection” and it spoke to me in a special way.
I.Love.This.Song.And.Amy.
But.God.DONT.CARE..About.
Me.Ore..You..😭😭
Amy has always been a mainstay for me through my 30 christian yrs. God`s gift in her goes on and on.
One of my favorite Amy albums and songs. Looks like some of places this was shot were the Narrows in Zion National Park, Utah.
I really wish I could meet Amy grant in person just to say thank you
I did an she’s a BEAUTIFUL SOUL!!! I cnt wait to see her in tour come October!!! ❤️🙏🏼
It also ministers to me, going through the trials now of prostate cancer. "Lead me on Lord to the place that the river runs into your keeping".
Amy Grant was my inspiration as a child, and I loved this song. However, I had no idea until I saw this video today that the second verse was about the Holocaust. Wow! Makes this song even more powerful to me.
Yeah. Won't hear any song like that on K Love today
And the first verse is about slavery. Pretty heavy subjects for a pop Christian song.
@@davidnelson9903 So true! Ms. Grant was always pushing the envelope back in the 80s and 90s.
The Holy Ghost is surely present in this song. Totus Tuus, Jesu!
One of the best songs I have ever heard!
If not the best song ever heard... it's an epic for sure. I remember when it came out and I was blown away. I could not get enough!
Yes! It so good!!
The people of Israel need our support and love more now than anytime in the last 80 years.
Amy was my idol growing up & this is my favorite song of hers. Gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it its that good. I remember how excited I was when my mom bought me this cassette when I was 9 years old.
Her music saved my life
Also look up Connie Scott ... Spirit Mover ❤
Please, what album was this track on? I first heard this album in 1990, or somewhere around then, and never forgot.. I actually happened upon it in a box of cassette tapes.. fell in love with it immediately.. I would be eternally grateful should you reply..
@@askavalnathan379 on the album Lead Me On
I had no idea as a child listening to my mom spin this record that Amy is such a legendary beauty. And as an audiophile and music junkie now, I'm blown away by the quality of the production on this song. And you know she's really singing, no auto tune here.
Thank you, Amy, for your very special and beautiful signature on the music world. 💓
This song is absolute fire.❤ Amy is a legend.
I used to listen to this over and over back in the day and still love this song. Still one of my favorites to this day, never gets old.
One of your best, if not the best. I was introduced to you by a girl who l met when recovering from my third breakdown in fulbourn hospital in 1988. She was a Christian. Sadly she commited suicide in 1989. While still in hospital , ( i had been discharged earlier.) I had contact with her mum for many years. She said the pain never goes away. It was sad , she was only in her early twenties when she took her life.
RIP. Bernadette..🙏.
Lead Me On was the very first song I heard from Amy when I was 15. I have been a fan of her music since. Now almost 51, I still listen to her music to give me hope. When I was pregnant with everyone of my children I played Baby, Baby on my stomach. Fun fact Amy's daughter Corrina, my niece Sam and my youngest daughter Jessie are all the same age.
My everyday cry to the Lord: Lead me on, lead me on!!! 🙌🏽🙇🏽♂️🏃🏾♂️
I love it...she truly is Gods gift to music
hey, she was 28-29 when she made this. she's 52 now and still looks good! so you teen boys can still drool over her today!
Still 27, actually. She released it that July.
All those that suffered & suffer , may the Lord finally give you joy , comfort and rest 💚 He is home.
We Love Beautiful Amy❤❤❤❤❤
Amy Grant is a Spirit Bender.... Great song here
Dear dear Amy got me through some very troubled times and I will always love her.
Powerful song. Makes me think about the Holocaust, The Lord and hope. Beautiful
I love this song... and the music video. Amy Grant has always had such flawless, natural beauty. :)
+Sam Roach I couldn't have said it better!!
I remember seeing her on the bushes yatch somewhere in the mediterainian she was serenading the bushes it was kate bush the elder. I wonder who she's going to vote for?
This Song gives me such Chills!!!
When I'm up in my Hometown of Parry Sound Ontario so full of so many Rivers and Northern Landscapes...This song and along with Down in the River to Pray really Echoes in my Mind and this is by far the best one of all that Amy grant ever released and I godbless her for It!!! Hey as I say christian Life is Great and their is no shame in it at all!!!
Lord God, your name is forever on my lips and heart.Heal me Lord and I will be healed, save me and I will be saved.Valerie C.
People forget how Talented Amy Grant is.
Love Her!!! I have had the opportunity to see her perform live twice in my lifetime!!! Such a phenomenon!!!
After years of searching for this track, and the other tracks from the album, my search is over.
for me the really precious part is her leading us into the feeling, (because she has it in her heart and is giving it away out of her abundance ) experience and atmosphere ,of the really intimate ,childlike love and trust she has for god . only few can give you that .you can see and feel the connection her face.she hooks you up to the majestic holy, awesome bordering on terrible (but in a good way),transcending (earthly focus and worries) presence.to be able to do that she's left a lot of this world's connections behind {that can be the terrifying part till you get connected in a deeper way} ,and she's showing her courage by being so vulnerable.it's an invitation [taste and see that the lord is good] to let go of a lot of worldly props and join me in this depth of presence, riches and security.
this is the way to spread the
word of the Lord, modern, lovely woman great tune
*** This was the very first Christian music video I ever saw....a young girl out in the country.....Amy opened up a whole new of music to me. it was a whole new world...full of possibility and wonder...and a new sound
I remember singing and dancing the heck out of this song! It still is one of my to favorites of all times. Thank you Amy!
As a Christian,, l say forget about the Christian message. , this Is a fantastic songs to be enjoyed by everyone,,
That's Zion National Park in the background, btw.
James Graves *Thank You* I was wondering where this video was filmed & was getting ready to Google it, when I saw your comment. :-)
Happy Easter !!! (in 2 days) :-)
I was wondering the same thing. I figured it was in the US southwest somewhere.
Thank you! BTW, I've heard that Zion has some of the most killer night skies imaginable. Clear air & no light pollution.
This song and LP has helped and encouraged me for almost 20 + yrs.
Thank you, Amy.
Please, what is the name of the album?
@@askavalnathan379 the album is also called Lead Me On
Definitely one of my favorites of all time
This is a beautiful song! I remember seeing this video on TV. I've loved it since then.
I just now remembered my Martin Luther; "Be a sinner and sin boldly, yet believe even more boldly." He went on to say that if you're going to preach unconditional grace, don't attach conditions to it. Jesus died for SINNERS, and we can't stop sinning on our own any more than we can pay for our own sins.
After 30+ years I found out what she is singing about and I started to cry 😭
Such a heavy topic. The Holocaust
Love this song so much!
The best CCM song of all time
she is so beautiful !!!! ..... this is Amy Grant's best work !!!
the content of the song is also beautifool
In the current climate of today’s world, this should not only be inspiration, but a cautionary tale
I remember cranking this up in 1988 my first semester in college. Great song.
What a great singer.
timeless classic, my all time favorite by her.
I love that song sooooooooooooo much!! I love Amy Grant too!
Such a positive and powerful song. Turns rain into sunshine.
Exquisite, soulful being and an artist for the ages.
Always the deep heart of it. Always sing, write, share, connect.
Keep us going and speak the message.
Thank you, Amy.
What a great and powerful song. Has been on my "favorites" list since the first time I heard it. Good music stays with you no matter how many years pass!
Amy's best song.
God, I love this song! I could listen to it for hours on end!!
theres's an even better song I think it's song number two that's about jesus coming and it's got drums for about 6 bars not quite similar to phil Collins silent night done accapella
Yes it's the one titled "Alright"
yes i succeed you are infact right. love that line about how woman hurt each other so true christian tranees are very violent I think it could be the crack
We cant judge anyone less we be judged,Our judge is on high and is our only judge.
Finally!!! Bit of this song have been stuck in my head for about 2 years.
This looks amazing in 3-D!
Still love this song. :)
one of my favorite songs...God bless you Amy!
This remains one of Amy's most well-known songs, and for good reason. But what many probably won't notice right away is that Michael W. Smith actually wrote the music for it. He affirmed as much in his Change the World tour, when Amy joined him on stage to sing this song for a huge audience.
Still love this song!
now this takes me back! old-school 80's. my second favorite amy album, unguarded being #1 for me. amy was my introduction to christian music back in 1987. i just invented a new game, "the seven degrees of amy grant". it's the ccm version of the six degrees of kevin bacon, same rules. seriously! amy was at her peak before heart in motion.
I'll never understand why this wasn't a bigger radio hit.
She sings about a train with a golden star heavy-hearted boarding and whispers in the dark where we going? Song about the Holocaust dude
I've always been a huge fan of hers! Back in the eighties there was this Christian Store in the valley where I grew up, and they had this life-size standup cardboard poster thing of Amy Grant with like a bunch of red roses in a black dress. I always wanted to get that stand-up cardboard life-size poster thing, but I was always told no even when my mom tried.
I have actually never seen her in concert. I never had the have the opportunity, so I decided to buy tickets to see her in October with my girl Natalie 👍😊
@@djlacey100 I recall the life-sized cardboard of Amy holding a bunch of roses. It was even displayed in downtown Nashville on the rooftop of a bookstore next to the Belmont Church, as I recall (I was in Nashville visiting around that time, in '92). I heard her in concert once @ Hoffman Estates amphitheater near Chicago in the summer of '85 or '86. It was filled to capacity, and she rocked the haus, starting the concert with "Too Late". I remember regretting that she didn't perform "The Prodigal" at any point. Bless ya!
@@djlacey100 She's not promoting the likes of the Holocaust. She's driving home the point of "man hurts man time and time again" (and the horrific fruit of hatred), using the Holocaust as a classic example. We read of the crucifixion of Christ in the Bible. Does that mean that The Book is against Christ, or that Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John were espousing hatred of Christ. The answer is self-evident.
Because it’s about truth and goodness.
Does anyone else think she has gotten more beautiful as she has aged? It really works for her.
Yes, powerful tune with the nature enhancement, sweet ❤ Oh that voice 😊
All good and perfect gifts to you Amy Grant and family. God bless you. Oh how the years go by...
wow! such classic gospel style that will never die...the fresh memories in my early years of my first love...Amy you're amazing... : )
I actually saw her live during the tour for this album. I'll admit, I've never been keen on her preachy lyrics...musically, this was a great album and she had some pipes.
God be the praise by your life Amy Grant.
Oh wow, super voice! I really like it❤🎉!!! Thank you so much, dearest Amy!
Amen. Great music
still listening in 2012!!!! who else
I was jealous my sister brought the cassette tape for my niece and not me 😂
I am a Christian and I still struggle with a multitude of sin. I do not say the things I should and I do not do the things I should. But God's grace amazes me, I do not deserve it, but yet God has chosen to forgiven!! God always leads me back to Him. In the dark, in the struggles, God is there!
Remember the words of the great Martin Luther: 'Be a sinner and sin boldly, yet believe even more boldly'. Trust in God to forgive and lead you to Holiness. You can't win a struggle with sin any more than you can save your own soul. Pray, read your Bible, and trust God to lead you away from sin. Remember the Lord's Prayer: 'Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil'.
What really is sin? Sin is an attitude. Better believe it.
No, Christopher, God gives the definition of sin, in His Word.
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.1 John 3:4 KJV In other words, to sin is to break God's commandments.
peacelovehk1 Amen, I can relate to your every word.
yes. thankyou.
To me this song means my fight with myself asking to the Lord to save me from my anger... Lead me on Lord, I pray💖🙏
1st day of Summer 2021! This song and testimony still reigns.
I love getting a rusty trombone while this song is playing. Am I the only one?
I have friends who worked for both families. There is a lot of bad on their former spouses that's not common knowledge. I respect them for how they handled it.
