Lyrics:
Long time since I've seen your smile
But when I close my eyes
I remember
You were no more than a child
But then so was I
Young and tender
Time carries on
I guess it always will
But deep inside my heart
Time stands still
Stay for awhile
Well it's good to see Your smile
And I love your company
Stay for awhile
And remember the days gone by
For a moment it can seem
Just the way it used to be
Snowfalls, phone calls, broken hearts
Clear summer days
Warm and lazy
Long walks, long talks, after dark
We vowed we'd never forget
Now it's hazy
Time takes its toll
And time alters our view
It would be nice to
Spend some time with you

Who misses the innocent songs of the 80’s.
I missed the 80's so much which was a great part of my childhood.😪😇❤️
There is just something unique about that eighties’ sound
I do!!! Please take me back to the 80's!!!!! ❤
Me me me me. I want to go back.
@classicalretroback INNOCENT? I remember how controversial the 80s songs were. Many churches called rock music devil-inspired, even if it was Christian
.
She was/is the most exquisite beauty. I was 17 years old in 1987--recently moved across country by my parents and desperately alone. This song resonated. When I saw her in Milwaukee in 2023, this was the opening song as she came onto stage...I broke down in tears.
Beautiful and Innocent Times❤
I don't think many people understand how remarkable the music production on this track is! Many think her voice (which is exceptional*) is the main-stay...but the production, downmixing, compression, and composition is a beast!!!! Dang!!!
love the use of the fairlight here too
BINGO.
It was a Synclavier. The production is insane. So much ear candy.
Deep, spooky, mysterious, to the core, pure, innocent and longing love! One of the best, if not the best, Amy Grant song!
The first Amy Grant song I ever heard. Startling.
@@bostonseeker That’s because, it was her first cross over hit and, it got played on the pop radio stations!
@sonyafox3271 INCORRECT. Her first crossover hits came in 1985 from Unguarded. “Love will Find A Way” became her highest charting song that year (Top 20 on Billboards secular chart) and held that record until 1991
.
Took me back to a much simpler time when life was good and innocent and pure ! Wow. What memories this song brings up 💗
@Amy Grant Amy l remember your baby baby that was wicked tune back when l was a teenager in the early 90s you should make a come back there sometimes play your music on uk England radio 2 on sounds of the 90s
One of the first Christian tapes I was given. I remember this song and album fondly. Listening to these old songs actually makes my heart hurt wishing for simpler days when life was less complicated.
This song haunts me. It reminds me of dead people I knew.
Nothing about life has ever been innocent and pure.
You nailed it, much better times back in the day, mostly looney tunes you see today, unbelievable misfits 😊❤
Who needs today's pop junk when you have Amy Grant?
Today's hip hop is awful .crime spreading .we can redo the past and call it present 😅
I grew up listening to Amy's music. She was a good role model at the time, and probably a big reason why I chose to make the right choices while all my friends weren't.
Dios te bendiga, amigo
me too!!
One of those absolute writing-and-production classics of the mid-80s that didn't make it onto the supermarket playlists - you won't hear this today unless you seek it out. I had never seen the video before now, but it's absolutely brilliant artistic work as well. The main part of the song is so cheery, but the beginning and the end are so dark, and the videography really captures that... intense stuff. Written by Michael W. Smith & Wayne Kirkpatrick, with a spellbinding performance by Amy.
I’m sitting on my couch with my precious 16-year-old longhair dachshund named Edie (Eee-Dee, not Eddie). She is dying from heart disease and renal failure. We’ve made the incredibly painful decision to end her misery tomorrow afternoon. Until then, we are spending as much time as possible with her, doing her favorite things. She loves sitting in our laps, and as she sat with me just now, the lyrics to this song came to me and I knew I had to share them with her. I thank God for all the beauty and joy she has brought into the life of my family. She’s a beloved member of our family, and she’s a better soul than most humans I know. I am the most flawed and backsliding Christian ever, but I believe my Edie will go to Heaven as she crosses the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow afternoon. Thank you, Amy Grant, for creating this little gem of a song that has helped me smile through my tears. God bless.❤️
I Love This Amy Grant 1986 Music Video, "Stay For A While," Which Became The #1 Christian Hit In America.
I grew up listening to amy grant she had very music back then but talented singer 👩🎤 ❤❤❤
i know this song is considered 'old', and im not a major amy grant fan, but i love this song. My mom listened to her all the time when i was little, so she seems like a part of me.
What an incredible song.
this is a tune man l remember amy grant stuff and music flipping back in the early and mid 90s that baby baby song and stuff l dint even here this tune stay till about 2 years ago
@sebastianwelcome2080 STAY For Awhile was released 1986. It didn’t get any play outside the Christian radio stations & some adult contemporary stations.
Top 40 radio ignored it
Amy Grant is without a doubt one of the most beautiful, genuine people on earth. I have seen her in concert twice and adored every moment. She pours her soul into everything she performs. This song is one of my favorites that doesn't get enough recognition. Her music is so cleanly produced. It gets inside you. Amy, you're the best!
It sounds better coming off the speakers of my HP Stream Notebook than it did off my cassette stereos.
Saw her twice as well. 1987 for the Lead Me On tour and 1989 or 1990 @ Pacific Amphitheatre & The Forum (had floor seats for the latter show).
@@SuperPutzPutz I couldn't agree more. I ended up getting the CD in 1987 because I wore my tape out.
@@SuperPutzPutz 🤭😃😄
My sister favorite song and we played it at her funeral 😢. I miss you Diana ❤❤❤
Where in God's good name did music like this ever go to?????
44skins every generation has their own music. It just gets reinvented with the same notes and scales.
Robin Turner, I think you missed 4skins’ point. I think he meant songs that were sentimental, meaningful, and innocent.
Today’s singers lack the emotion in their songs.
At least I think that’s what he meant. 🤷🏻♂️
satan has buggered up most of our young ones with toxins in the brain of all kinds, shapes, ways and forms. We must fix things or tap into the music from parallel universes. Imagine more Amy Grant songs out there?
@@SuperPutzPutz I had to read your comment twice because I thought you were replying to someone's screen name of "Satan Has Buggered Up" - I might have to file that away for an alternate identity!
Anyway, Amy (Ms. Grant) has several christian/pop songs that are worth a listen that'll drive Satan's buggery out of your world for at least 3:30 per song! Try "I Love You" and work your way around to "Next Time I Fall" with Peter Cetera... all or most are great tunes!

Won't you, won't you?
Long time since I've seen you smile
But when I close my eyes I remember, hmm
You were no more than a child
But then so was I, young and tender

I guess it always will
Deep inside my heart time stands still
Stay for a while

And I love the company
Stay for a while

And time alters our youth
But it would be nice to spend some time with you
Oh, stay for a while
Well, it's good to see your smile
And I love the company
(Whoa) stay for a while
And remember the days gone by
For a moment it can seem

Stay, stay, stay
Won't you, won't you?
Stay for a while

Just the way it used to be
Won't you, won't you?
Ending is so good, like a jumbo jet landing.
Haha! Kinda true. 😂
This and several other songs of hers brought me a lot of peace during desert storm. And yes, the backup vocals are Richard Page: the lead singer for Mr. Mister.
Kyrie eleison!
Best part of this song! And I say this while being a big Amy Grant fan!!
Thank you for your Service! And Blessed day and everyday!
Amy in her prime. And the musicians, songwriters. Totally amazing.
She still is amazing! Always will be
❤ Makes me cry if honest. 😢Takes me back to the 80s were life yes had it's issues and problems but it was a much simpler times and family ❤and great song's like this ❤ Michael w. Smith as well ❤😊
wow does this take me back. lost loves, missed opportunities, finding my way at a fragile, confused age. bittersweet.
I just absolutely love this song!!!!! It just shows how precious time is and we should cherish good moments w the people we have in our lives....she is so pretty and I love her voice....The ending of the song hits me in the gut....As the teenager in the 80s... her songs have always touched me and encouraged me to be strong in my darkest times...
I saw her on Good Morning America recently after she had emergency heart surgery. She even showed the foot-long scar on her chest where doctors had to cut her open.
That's some major surgery !
Thank God she made it.
I used to hear this song at night when I was a kid on the christian station . Reminded me of an older girl I had a crush on . Could only listen to gospel and christian music as a kid , nice memories .
Amy Grant is so underrated
I love this song. It makes me go into the mind of being around people again. It’s scary to me because I know if I am around people I would just be a burden, I’m so broken mentally, emotionally, physically, yet I’m so tired of being isolated and cut off from everyone.I’m to broken and I have to much healing I have to do and don’t even know if I will live long enough to go thru it all.. I’ll never get over the fact that the government did this to me to steal. What the hell has become of this country. I enjoy your music it’s kind of new to me. I knew the song. Baby baby, it came out right when I met my ex but I didn’t have much knowledge of the others. I like it, many of your songs bring me peace, thank you for that
Amy I've listened to her since 1980's and I love her music
l listed to her since about the 1990s
Takes me back to the Summer of 1990, I was a teenager, great song!
This song came out in 1986.
This song never fails to give me chills.....the lyrics are just so true and somewhat sad......we all should really relish the moment we r in....,.Ive always been a fan of Amy Grant.....she’s naturally beautiful, true singer w a lovely emotional voice and her songs have helped me through my sad and happy times of my life.... this song is always on replay
She still ministers to me with every song, as she did 30 years ago.
She has such an angelic presence
I'm a metal/hard rocker for life, but I honestly can't think of any rock/metal songs that give me nostalgic chills like this song does. An amazing song through and through till the end of time.
Background singer of Mr Mister helped write this. Also Michael W Smith
I loved this as a teen and in 2022 I love it even more!
I know, yeah great song do not call your first love. do not! Lol
I had the extremely delightful pleasure of meeting Amy around this time and had seen her a few times in concert- as well as a few times since- and she was genuinely such a wonderful person. So friendly and so strikingly beautiful! This song just oozes happiness and warmth just like she does!
probably my favy amy grant song of all-time...makes me always rememeber the old days and this time period
Amy. Best of all. 😊.
Amy Grant ; I love you my friend... I love all of you’re music so much today , then 38 years ago when I first heard you. You are still as beautiful today !!! I love this song.
In my eyes it was her best song
Still as great as the first time I heard it. Uplifting, brings wonderful memories. God bless you, Amy Grant.
It really is a perfect song... it's impossible not feeling something at the chorus... the melody is perfect! Lovely. ❤
You have never lied. Those artists were amazing.
Jesiel Lima Foi tema de algum filme essa musica ?!
mom used to blast this when I was a toddler so it makes me think of vacuuming and minivans
aaahhhh me tooo!!!!!!! hahahahaha LOVE IT
Haha nice. The good ol' days.
you can remember being a toddler lol l but saying that so can l. was 11 years old when this song came out but l don't remember hearing it at the time
@@sebastianwelcome2080 Yes I have multiple memories of my mother being pregnant, and I had just turned three when that was the case.
@@CrackaLackaHacka are you a man or a woman?
1986...what a formative year for so many of us out there...anyway, you gotta love Richard Page on this tune helping out on BV's
I got to work on this video and several others with Amy...she was a class act all the way. She would ask about our families and kids every time we worked together.
So cool!!
Brilliant and uplifting song. Brilliant and beautiful artist. What a blessing she was back then and what a blessing she is today. Thank you Amy for seeing me through some tough times. How many lost souls has she guided to God? Amy is an angel here on Earth.
I was the only one in my friends group that loved Amy Grant, songs like this are why and listening to it now brings me to tears as I never found love.
A bit haunting for Amy but one of her best. 80's 👍
Wow -- she looks gorgeous here!! I read she experienced lots of emotional turmoil in the late 1980's after the breakup of her marriage, which the church pointed to her as abandoning her her husband. Amy was also suffering backlash from the church community for going "Pop" in 1991 with the breakout success of "Baby Baby". Oh well, can't have everything. Then of course when she met Vince Gill and got married -- well, more backlash!! But it's nice to see she's kinda come full circle again.
I don't see a full circle
This song has always reminded me of my 1st boyfriend. So much happened when we were just 16 and 17. Completely heartbreaking. He will always be in my heart even if I never see him. 1986 and 87. 💔CAS.
When I was in college, this song crowded the skating rink floor!
@@anncatherinebraxton3378 man that sounds fun l wouldn't mind skating to this tune
Love this so much
takes me back to my sophomore and junior years of high school... listening to it in 2012 does make think its 1987/1988 all over again... the people loved and lost...
This was a great track to open the 1986 collection album with. I love the production. The fat bass sound💯
the ending is my favorite part! Grew up on Amy!

The ending vocal is Richard Page from Mr. Mister.
And Michael W Smith
@@MichaelSouhoka Richard Page is such an amazing singer/songwriter! His vocals here are perfection.

I hadn't had a chance to watch the video and big tears run down my face at the same time that Amy's voice takes me to heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hauntingly beautiful... this song is so in tune with the feel and idea of the topic!
This is so 80s! And Im ABOUT it!
This is so weird how much I cant stop listening to this old song!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAHHHAHH! oh lord whats happening to me? Naw I have always loved AG I just forgot about you! we were so young and tender.......!!! Oh, How the years go bye .....!
Darkly beautiful...
This song is nostalgic therapy.
incredible mainstream song I'm amazed it didn't end up on the high end of the Billboard charts back then.
While I was a DJ at an Akron Ohio Christian radio station back in the late 80's, this song was on the play list and I loved it as well as a lot of other Amy Grant songs...never knew there was a video..........thanks so much for the share! Godspeed!
Man, those words - ring true.
2020 I love this music.Amy grant is wonderful
A Timeless Masterpiece
Amy is amazing. This is when she opened up the door to the world and connected with what was deep inherent with human nature. To need and be needed. God bless.
Amy G. such a warrior and pioneer of breaking the religious status quo in music and because of no fear and a real heart for music and God she has blessed so many heart that would have never set foot in a church and God has blessed her for it. Thanks A.G.

Wow...all of a sudden I am back in my 20's again! I remember this video very well. Just love Amy. Peace be with all who watch this.
Amy and I are going to stay together forever and ever! It's good to each other's smile. I love Amy's company and she loves my company too!
I love this track.
One of Amy's BEST!!!🙌❤
I'm in love with Amy Grant!
First heard "Stay for A While" back in winter 1988 (a young 16 year old) who'd just met my first love... it's funny how profound 2 teenagers thought the lyrics were back in 1988 as 16 year olds in puppy love... and thinking back to that time today in 2015... really drives the message home louder than ever... and just like the lyrics... remembering the days gone by... missing the smile... "for a moment it can seem just the way it used to be."
+ryanarcuri my friend you said a mouth full
same here same age Great memories
same her and i was 12. great song!
Hopefully Amy did not encourage you to fornicate. She was a spokeswoman for Satan. This whole song is saying to go out and godless sex.
@@erikjager4704 It worked. I fornicated over and over. Thanks Amy!
yes she is married to vince gill, we are from nashville and see them out from time to time. i have been a fan for 25 years!
I remember being 9-10 years old, listening to this over and over on my iPod.
Now I'm 18 and I actually understand the lyrics xD
Amy is the best
loved the way it ended. tiiight!!!
One of my favorite songs and videos, ever! Amy is such a genuine person...such a genuine artist...such a genuine soul.
One of my favorite Amy songs. Cannot listen to it enough.
The harmony is very haunting! It's actually one of the reasons why I love it.
Also, the melody in both vocals and the violin are dark.
Which is strange but so beautiful.
This was probably unintentional. But the song was too good to be let go!
Cledyston Dos Santos 0:23- creepy though unintentional. But you have to love it!

Wednesday,July/08/2020.Amy grant the best.
my God this song is so gorgeous!
Used to listen to this song before Mr. Mister got their break and Chicago had not hired Bill Champlin. Recently I listened to the song again and immediately recognized Richard Page (lead singer of Mr. Mister) at the beginning and Bill Champlin in the mix giving the song the needed soulful voice and texture. Great song... :)
I song expresses with ever single word and phrase how I feel about my first love, I was 17 and he was 16, my mother told me it was puppy love and I would forget about him but I haven’t. We’re both married with families of our own and we haven’t talked for decades and I still love him always.
Magnific song and fantastic core, blessings for all.
