    Regarding the issue that some have brought up regarding viruses found on the drive. I scanned it and I found 'questionable' key generators and game cracks in the PC games section of the drive. I think they're just downloading torrents of cracked games, which often are flagged by virus software. Often these are false flags. But sometimes they are not. I don't care enough to test each and every one properly, because like I say in the video I don't support pirating PC games. I always delete them off these sorts of products to make more space for retro games, so if you get this you can just delete the PC games off the drive and it's perfectly clean without them. As always if you want to run cracked PC games then you'll have to do it at your own risk.

    Very good value. I've been working on my own "Build" of Batocera for 3 YEARS now! Picking "All killer, No filler" games, scraping/manually finding and adding art and gameplay videos. Researching themes, trying to get the perfect "hidden gem" theme. Loading that theme with my own music list, filled with songs that have a obvious connection to games Eg. "Play the Game" by Queen, "Pac Man Fever" Buckner and Garcia etc... Creating custom settings for all the "testy" games, to get them running just right. Even creating my own boot video! All while dumping all of my own perfectly legally acquired BIOSeses and keys and firmwares and finally games.These things take time and PASSION! You don't just embark on this scale of project for "Funzies". If time is indeed money, then this is a cheap 12tb drive indeed (sure they only had to do it once and pump out copies...)serious work was done. Oh and by the way..... MY drive is only a 128gig mini USB HAH!

      Curious to know if you had better results than some of the reviewers - e.g. which games worked out of the box? eg. teknoparrot, arcades, or common consoles like genesis, snes, PS1, DC, N64, Gamecube, and more advanced systems like PS3, Switch and XBOX360. They mentioned many games do not work like 3DS, but if you use your own emulator then you can at least get the roms configured yourself to run. ...other systems are like this too. So a lot of figuring out maybe?

    So happy you got this drive. I recently got this thing for the very reasons you listed. I work allot and just don't have the time to download all these rom's. I would love for someone to do a deep dive on this thing. For example how to properly and most effectively transfer these games to a RP3+ or RP2s. Also I have watched your channel and retro game core for over a year now and have been learning the retro game handheld scene very slowly but for some odd reason I still cant get my games to save. If you could do a small intro on how to do a save state very slowly that would be awesome. I just don't understand what I'm missing.

      @TechDweeb  Před 4 měsíci +13

      Awesome!
      For the saves, you mean in this drive or on your handhelds? If it's on this drive you'll need to open up the retoarch settings (l3 + r3) while the game is open, and then go to the main settings>input>hotkeys, and in there you can set whatever hotkey you want for save (I choose 'select' as the hotkey enable, and r1 as save, and l1 as load). Stop by my discord and ask for help if you need a hand :)

      if you are not tech savy and you buy this, then use an xbox controller. anything else will cause you a headache to reconfigure. Also run a virus scan. there are some trojans, however don't let that scare you from buying the product. Honestly the value of this is incredible. When you run an antivirus on this know that HACKS and CRACKS are NOT viruses. Those are there to either help you cheat in a game, or to launch specific games. TROJANS and RANSOMWARE are the bad ones. I found some of these but were easily managed with the antivirus that comes with windows - microsoft defender. go ahead and quarantine those that have a severe threat label. there is also a good chance that those threats are just false flags.

    For me I do prefer to set it up myself, but I do see the the positives even for $300 if they they are using a new hard drive (and not a renewed one). Most ISPs have a stupid data cap (from 1-2TB per month) so those people will have to wait between 6-12 months to complete it the old fashioned way. It's basically a extra $50 premium to not deal with the setup and wait time to fill up the whole drive. For me I set mine up to make sure all the ROMs are in english (originally or patched), or games that don't need me to learn another language to play.
    However with that said those cracked games may have pitfalls like viruses, because you don't know who's cracks they're using nor where the got them. Also if someone has Steam turned on (even if it's running in the background) when they start one of those cracked games you could get your Steam account banned (or worse). Even though they are cracked most use a phony Steam ID that'll alert the Steam Guard your using a pirated game if Steam is running. That is why if they buy one they need to either make sure Steam is not running, or just delete those pirated games. Oh and scan the drive for viruses when you get it plugged in for the first time..

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Před 4 měsíci +2

      The drive I linked when discussing the price was a renewed drive. I don't doubt that they're renewed, I personally buy renewed drives all the time, never had an issue.
      I did a virus scan. It's clean. I've never heard of a steam acct getting banned for playing cracked games! Is that a real thing?

    • @JeremyLeePotocki
      @JeremyLeePotocki Před 4 měsíci

      @@TechDweeb It depends on the crack, but I have seen my fair share of people that got banned over the years. There are some in the cracking community that do a good job to prevent it, and those that do not. It's best though to ALWAYS be cautious especially since these drives do come from China even if they're sold on Amazon.

    Just got this hard drive and been playing with it for hours. I do consider myself an expert on emulation and could build this myself but I can assure you guys it would take months to years to set something like this up depending on how you go about it. So far everything has worked with controls including the pinball stuff and all the obscure stuff. All the teknoparot stuff is working and pretty much everything I've tested so far. Only a few systems like switch and a few others did not have control setup but most of the controls are set. The only other gripe is you might have to use the esc key or alt 4 to close some systems as the pre programed two button process on the Xbox controller does not close everything but closes most systems. If something is not working its probably related to the individual setup. This is definitely the real deal and would advise to grab it while you still can as something this good is never meant to last..

      @@user-vb8ln5st3z The DS games worked on my setup and should have on yours so this is odd. However since you extracted the files they will not load unless you make changes to the emulator settings and or hyper spin itself. Ideally anything you alter you should make a copy of just in case as you can’t go back once you alter the files. You can try converting back to rar files? It hard to know what’s going on unless I can literally see the setup. These setups are extremely complex so if you’re not familiar with emulation and hyper spin stuff you should never attempt alter anything as literally one missing file can break the entire setup. In my opinion this is an incredible value. The 12TB enterprise grade drive and the external drive enclosure alone could cost what this does. Add in the enormous amount of games and emulators that this has. I only gave 4 stars because this isn't exactly intuitive to use. It isn't a simple plug n play unit. There is definitely some knowledge that is needed to make full use of this product. I have a generic Playstation controller that works perfectly well at navigating the menus and getting into the games. Once in the games the controller does nothing. Turns out that I have to go into all of the purported emulators and map out the controller for each of them. Many of which I have yet to figure out how to do. When I contacted the seller for support on this issue I received a single response of, we'll get back to you. The instructions for installation were quite easy to read, understand and follow. Everything went into my system as it was intended. On that end they did a marvelous job.

    I've been running emulators for years, especially on my phone since that's where I run them the most. But over the last year I've been highly considering getting a mini PC and setting up something for emulators for my bedroom TV.
    I honestly and highly considering his. Yes, as the commenters always say, I can do this. I enjoy setting them up. But just the fact that I can use it as a storage for games in and of itself is amazing. What I was looking at doing it going to take hours and hours just downloading games for the PS3, Xbox, and 360. I've got a good collection of PS2 games, but I was even gonna get more for that. So while I would probably still get more, this is already a huge time saver. And it's something I can set to the side so that if anything should happen to the mini PC I set up, I have the games ready to go.
    Not to mention, as you said, it's gonna only cost a little more than buying the parts and setting up a back up system myself. The cost of the parts alone is expensive, so might as well just spend the extra bit and have things already downloaded.

      It's VERY easy to do! The roms are in the Arcade/Collections/ directory, there is a folder for each system, and all the rom files are in there and easily accessible.

      @@mvanalst2003 Since they have it set up to use on Windows the drive partition will be in NTFS so explorer will have no issues accessing it. The Batocera drive is partitioned in EXT4 which can not be accessed in Windows due to Microsoft refusing to add EXT4 or any other Unix/Linux file types (though you can add some types like EXT1-3 via 3rd party software).

    It's pretty good if you want a plug and play for a pc or laptop but the problem is how it was configured. Because of how the company basically just downloaded everything off the internet and just threw it into a free game manager, they didn't really optimize the experience and you might find that some game libraries don't even have pictures.
    I give it 3 out of 5 star rating because like I said, it's good for a plug and play and what you're really paying for is not having to do the work and waste your wifi downloading all these games, but all these games are generally free and easy to download except for new aaa titles. But the fact that I have to configure my pc to run certain libraries of games and that the game managers don't seem polished and optimized, just shows me that they were lazy with it and just downloaded everything to the ssd real quick with very minimal quality control

    Hello TechDweeb, started watching you of janurary last year, your videos helped me so much. I bought the nucbox m5, you think if I bought this emulation drive I could at least run Ps3? Might not get the best performance but was wondering since the nuckbox comes in wednesday.

      Here's a video of a Mini PC with the same processor as the M5, and I show emulation in this video, which should be similar on the M5: czcams.com/video/dNgYst0PumM/video.html
      PS3 is playable, but you won't get perfect performance in every game.

      I know exactly what you mean. Mainstream marketplaces like Amazon tend to crack down more on any emulation gear with any games included with it, in the UK and EU. Often you will see the product come up for a few days and then it'll either have the "No longer available" tag on the product or it's taken off the marketplace and listings altogether. Ebay and AliExpress tend to be better, but there's also a hell of a lot of fake stuff and rip off merchants on them.
