Honestly, at this point my favourite part of most movies coming out nowadays is just watching the reviews rather than the actual film.
100%. I dont watch less movies, I just watch older movies instead of going to the theater as much as I did 20 years ago.
There are still good movies coming out, they're just aren't really from Hollywood.
Poor things seems to be a masterwork.

The Whale this year and so on.
Good movies are still out there getting released, we should look out for those.

When people say there aren't good games or movies or music anymore. It tells me they just keep up with the mainstream outlets like Hollywood, AAA, etc.
There are tons of incredible movies music games and so much more still being made. You just got to look beyond your horizons. Hell some of the mainstream outlets still put out actual art and good stuff from time to time.

I feel like Jujutsu Kaisen has already used all of these plot/character hooks better than this movie did. The switching places thing? It's a power that a character uses, and it's an amazing fight. A character that is ridiculously strong to the point of invalidating practically any conflict? They spent several episodes to set up how powerful he is, what he's doing at any time, how he got there, and why he doesn't intervene in some cases.
Captain Marvel is indeed the Superman of Marvel. They never explain why she's not solving all the universe's problems because the way they set up her power it's clear she could by sheer force.
What is going on with the Marvel universe though? Why have we gone from The Russo Brothers directing and making incredible movies to letting almost unknown directors handle big movies like this? Disney is basicly killing off they're biggest franchise.
Because Disney isn't producing movies to tell a story. They're producing slop to fulfill a quota.
Chasing that DEI money that has started to dry up. Disney has some pretty big bills coming up and they gotta keep their ESG score high so that they can take more loans.

If I may... I'll tell you the problem with the film making power that they're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. They read what others had done and they took the next step. They didn't earn the knowledge for themselves, so they don't take any responsibility for it. Disney stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as they could, and before they even knew what they had, they patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now theyre selling it, they wanna sell it.

On the flip side, the creators of the product need to actually have respect in their craft and pride in their work. If your audience turns away, don't double down just to say F you all. Listen to their dislikes and reasses.

A lot of people draw comparisons between Captain Marvel and Superman because of their seemingly limitless power level vs weaknesses, but Superman’s weakness isn’t just Kryptonite, it’s his compassion, goodwill, and his general & genuine love and respect for people. Even people he dislikes. So that’s how you hurt Superman, and that’s how you write compelling stories for a character with basically limitless power. Good writers know how to do this, but they’re not doing that at Marvel and I just want to see good writers writing feature films based on comic books again.
They did Superman correctly in the 1970s, and havent since.

There are so many comics and moments in television/film. One I appreciated was during the animated series he was brainwashed by Darkseid. When Superman had his memories restored it wasn't just Lois defending him. It was a detective friend of his who believed in him despite everything. He told Darkseid to shove it and that they believed in the Man of Steel. It was such a powerful moment, even when Darkseid made it clear Supes was still going to pay a price. He killed his friend before leaving. It comes full circle when he lays into Darkseid.
My favorite burn from Alex is from Space Jam: New Legacy.

Zawe Ashton is a playright and usually in comedy drama. So an amazing fit to play a super villain..all that menace and gravitas. At least the actor lee pace has some screen presence compared to her
Her husband Tom Hiddleston is also a stage actor but has a *MUCH* better presence and acting performance. Nothing against Zawe but this role wasn’t good.
I'm glad to see the majority agrees that Iman Vhelani is good in this role, it's just that she's given trash script to work with just like the rest of the actors, but not even Khamala's enthusiasm is enough to salvage the movie, she can't carry it on her own. This is all the fault of the writers, the actors can't do anything if the script is not up to par.
I'm of the opinion that strong, charismatic actors can turn a pile of garbage into forgettable background noise. But these aren't amazing actors we're talking about

@@MasterChief203 Yup, sometimes a great actor can work their magic, other times it’s doomed to fail. The first Iron Man didn’t even have a complete script, but RDJ led the morale of the cast and basically improvised a good chunk of the film to successful results through sheer charisma. Yet, he was unable to work the same magic in Dolittle.

Haven’t seen this movie yet but from everything I’ve heard it sounds like this movie is Charlie’s angel in space. Iman is drew Barrymore, parris is Lucy Liu, and Brie is Cameron. I think we knows who’s Charlie here.

Bad writing, bad directing. This movie could have been good. But they just don't care anymore, and that's just blatantly obvious by this point. Good writing and good directing could make these movies great. But they don't care anymore..... It's all about the perpetual milking of this franchise.

No they didn't I found this film pretty meh (at best) but the plot was potentially interesting but they avoided showing any real blood or suffering. It coulda been a MoS for the MCU. Instead its far below Avengers but just above Antman 2/3

Marvel cannot comprehend the idea of a hero that happens to be a woman, they always need to objectify people and fit them into essentially "products" which just devalues the genre as a whole. Superheroes cannot be products of inspired writing, experiences, and overcoming adversity. They always need to have messages, quotas, and financial goals met and it's killing them. I can't believe DC actually has the potential to have better movies now bc of how badly marvel has dropped the ball since Stan Lee died (RIP legend).

Superman has a life and likable characters around him who let him shine. Captain marvel is so detached from everything around her that the only reason she shows up to save the day is because she feels obligated to do so and the stakes just aren't there. They should have made ms marvel the lead 100%

I've never heard 'WOMEN ARE BAD' as a justification to hate these movies. It's inserting characters just because 'muh diversity' that bothers people, because 9 times out of 10 the character is never written well or entertaining.
Let me just emphasis: there is nothing wrong with a diverse cast... so long as it makes sense within the context and the characters aren't half-assed thrown in. GoT and BB/BCS are great examples of a diverse cast that feels believable and well thought out within their context.
I actually thought the movie was one of the better MCU movies in a while, the cringe these guys talk about my kids loved and i felt that stuff was written fir younger audience. But overall, I had an ok time and the kids liked it alot, gotg3 was the last one they and I enjoyed but before that it's been a hot minute...

There were some crige parts like the singing and dancing that I was not a fan of and some of the cat shit, but other than that, I though it was ok. Not even Thor 1 or 2 level, but still better than something like She-Hulk or Secret Invasion.

The advertising for this movie was shameless and it was really telling that they’d stoop to a low enough level to use a peak-MCU sizzle reel in their trailers with Tony, Steve and Thanos..

Since Iron Man, I have gone to the theaters to see every MCU movie with my little brother. Multiverse of Madness put my foot out the door. Quantumania made me give up. We don’t even bother going to the theaters now. We MIGHT watch them on Disney+. She Hulk made me give up on the shows. I’m just done with MCU.
I want the DCU to take over finally.
At this point the MCU just feels like a massive homework assignment. Not just for the viewers, but for the Disney executives that are tasked with holding it together with duct tape and spit.
I’m telling you, no company of this pedigree fails so badly on so many fronts unless it’s entirely intentional.

The world and the characters absolutely sucks, no wonder Ms Marvel was never popular in the comics. No director could salvage this. And to be fair, that movie about the immortal characters... goddamn, I forgot the name, lol anyway, Marvel hired a Oscar winner director to work on it, made no difference. Meanwhile a unknown director worked on the Tom Holland's trilogy, it worked, mostly because Spider-Man is a beloved character that will always be iconic, unlike the z-list characters

My idea on this is that a giant AI experiment is being conducted. They are letting young, inexperienced, directors have huge budgets then forcing them to impliment AI in the writing or some part of the filmaking process.
They might be rotating which element they incorporate it in, film by film.
The goal would be to study what works and what doesn't while sacrificing a genre that they knew was on the rocks, already and directors who wouldn't get wise to what was going on
1:36 This is one of the reasons Disney is failing lately, if you alienate half of the audience less than half of your audience are going to go watch the movie, instead of a movie date people will opt for a meal or anything else to avoid being preached at.

Glad you caught up and we can finally be on the same page, Joes. We don’t hate the current state of Marvel because we hate Marvel, we hate it because we love what it truly can be, and how disgraced it has become.
It’s like seeing a girlfriend you really loved, abandoning you for an abusive boyfriend. You hate the sight of it, but you can’t do anything about it.
You try to tell her to drop him, she calls you jealous and says everything is fine, you try to get others to do something, they tell you nothing is wrong, you eventually just have to leave it and hope she realizes her mistake before it’s too late.

At this point Marvel fans are so burned out, but are still expecting a good film/series in the future.
Marvel should start taking risk and actually make elseworld projects that are completely independent from the MCU, and just capitalize on the Multiverse so that they could still have them be somehow connected.
We want more projects that aren't bounded by the formula and that actually fulfills the directors full vision.
I miss the times when Superhero films are actual cinema like Raimi's Spiderman and Nolan's Dark Knight. As of now we only have DC's Joker and The batman but we want something from marvel too damn it.
Atleast do a Punisher? Blade is rumored to be Rated R so I hope they take more risk.

It baffles me why they are doing this. Are their pay rates too low? Are they too hard to work with? Do they have a reputation for taking too much time and burning you out?
You'd think even if the pay wasn't quite commiserate with the status of the project, and the demands were onerous, that good directors (of which there are so so many) would be queing up to have a pop at helming a Marvel piece. How can their selections be so bad?

They are given a movie to make and told what happens in it and how to do it. They do it, Marvel slaps their ESG winning directors name on the project and move on. These director’s aren’t actually Directing anything. They’re named Middle men. This is why this movie is delayed 5 times and reshot however many times. This is why Black Widow was absolute hell to get made. This is why Secret Invasion is what it was. These are cast Directors.
it's also filmmakers that are known for small depressing indy flick and it does not fit with big light heart special effect flicks. it was the same issue on Eternals
@@jopearson6321 Disney are pretty cheap. They won't hire the best writers and directors because of that. Kevin Feige had promised us getting the best for Fantastic Four but he changed his mind. Imagine giving Peter Jackson a Fantastic Four Trilogy. Would have been amazing but we'll never get that
I might be the one or few person to say this in your comments, but I honestly liked the movie.
Especially compared to Thor 3, and Ant-Man 3.
The action scenes were better than both for sure. The whole switching mid combos gave me Marvel Ultimate Alliance vibes😂
Ms. Marvel and her family was a delight anytime they were on screen, and the emotional weight was there anytime they interacted with each other.
The story was more interesting because it wasn't just some villian being evil just to be evil, but someone being desperate to do whatever they needed to win, all because the protagonist thought their previous actions were the right thing to do and ended up not just dooming her enemies but any innocents that had nothing to do with the original problem. Giving the whole "With great power comes great responsibility" a larger scale than just one city.
Spectrum was actually cool and didn't feel like she was on the back burner like I thought they'd do with her. At first I didn't understand her issue with Captain Marvel not coming back when she originally she would, but thinking back on it, it makes sense when you link everything from the past movies together.
Always good to have Nick Fury there although his role was more of showing more of what S.A.B.E.R was all about rather than being a team assembler. And oddly enough I enjoyed Captain Marvel in this one way more than the first movie. She was actually able to show emotion and show some vulnerability since she's finally been away from the Kree and connected back with Nick.
All in all, I feel like in the Phase 4 of the Marvel movies/shows it's definitely in the upper tier than folks give it credit for, but at the same time I think the other bad "products" before it gave it a bad rep before it even came out.
I'd say a 7/10 at the lowest. Definitely wouldn't mind watching again.
P.S. Both end credit scenes got me hyped😁
