The ULTIMATE Ceramic Wax TEST! I’ve Been Using It Wrong All This Time!!

  • I used a generic ceramic wax and put it through a series of tests to see whether preparing the paint for wax was firstly necessary and, secondly what if I used a glaze or polish beforehand, would it benefit the longevity of the wax or cause it to prematurely fail.
5 separate panel sections of my scrap test panel were taped off and after cleaning the panel, one section was left ‘bare’ to apply the wax, the next section was decontaminated using a clay sponge from Angelwax and Garage Therapy Zero Decon Shampoo.
The next panel was left intentionally bare so that the wax performance could be measured , next to that I used a glaze before applying the wax, next to that I used a hand polish with fillers, and finally a Quick Detail spray was used to create slickness then waxed over to see if the wax would have any problems bonding, I was shocked at the results!!

Thank you Martin!, I get more enjoyment from knowing someone has taken something useful from the video, with more and more new channels popping up only interested in smells rather than how stuff works I enjoy trying new techniques rather than promoting the latest crap.

Outstanding video Graeme - Some really interesting information that have completely reversed what I thought i knew about applying a wax (and plenty of others im sure!!)!
Ive used Cherry Glaze before and I found the same lack of filling, but i do think it works superbly as a cleasing polish (even on black trim!)... Having said that, I still wouldnt have considered applying a wax over it but it seems to have worked really well!
Brilliant video mate, some really excellent information - your videos always give pause for thought 👍🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Thank you Mark! yes I agree a glaze does actually make a fantastic paint cleanser , haven’t tried a glaze on black trim right enuf but the test really did show up some misinformation that’s been banded about over the years 🤔
Just goes to show to not be a sheep and follow the shepherd, wax on wax off my good friend 😅

Fantastic video Graeme as always, well done for putting this out as I've never seen anyone do something similar.
Wow, you just don't realise how to prep a panel for waxing but like you've clearly demonstrated its up to the end user to find something that works for them.
I personally found using Monstershine Glosslock glaze under their Dominator Hybrid wax was so easy and has produced fantastic results. Now having bought 3 ceramic waxes (2x EZ Care care and 1x Monstershine) to play with I'm definitely going to use 3 of your methods for each one of them. I absolutely loved the proverb at the end and this man will certainly try and have fun experimenting.

It was interesting that Cherry glaze didn't do it's job!
My theory is that the solvents in the wax dissolve whatever is already on the panel and the two mix.
The only way I can see around this is to use either a tried and tested combination or to use two products from the same manufacture in the hope they have taken this into account.
    Thankyou for a good insight.

    • @GMDetails
      @GMDetails  Před 3 měsíci +1

Ahhh yeah that’s a real possibility, maybe I should have left the glaze for longer to harden before applying the wax or do you think that wouldn’t make much difference if the solvents are going to remove it anyway 🤔
That must be why I’ve had such good results with Monstershine Gloss Lock and Ceramic Wax , same sort of ingredients from the same brand 👌

You sure got interesting results. I use a one year ceramic coating but that leaves me missing my regular waxing therapy. So I use Car Chem Sapphire Wax over the coating to maintain it, probably ever six weeks That wax is so easy to work with and although it states the usual "out of direct sunlight" I tried it in the sun and it works just as well. It's a leap of faith, as with any product, to say that the protection is there but it beads all year long. Gotta say though, I really enjoyed your test.

My current test (started last week) is full decon then 1/2 bonnet with Stjarnagloss Glasyr, other half with AG SRP over laid with 1/2 BH DSW and 1/2 EZ ceramic wax (so a 3 way test). Its rained and shined and i can't tell any difference whatsoever so far wrt beading.
