- And this was a CHILL day.
Whenever people ask me what I do for a living, I always have a hard time answering because I feel like I have ten jobs including being a mother, business owner (I run a test prep company), educational consultant, and now creating content on the side. This is why the ideal vacation for me is a day in which I can freely take as many naps as my heart desires 😴.

Taking care of all my houseplants is supposed to be my wind-down routine except for the fact that for some reason, it always ends up being utter chaos, which is documented many times through my Shorts.
The ONLY thing on my houseplant to-do list was to treat for the fungus gnats, and now you see why I can never get to any chores until after midnight. When it comes to pests on houseplants, I will say fungus gnats are probably the least menacing. While gnats can carry bacteria and are super annoying, they're not extremely harmful to plants the way thrips or mealybugs are. My treatment for them is simple:
1. Treat the adults (sticky yellow traps or in my case, I used the insect trap).
2. Treat the larvae (I used BTI drops and systemic granules).
Most people will try to only treat the adults, but the problem is, an adult fungus gnat can lay hundreds of eggs and it will be a never-ending vicious cycle. You also need to essentially treat all houseplants or else the gnats will just hop and infect new plants. The BTI drops have the same active ingredient as mosquito bits, which are extremely effective in treating mosquito and fungus gnat larvae, but I find the drops much easier to use. I water all of my plants with this water (mixed with my nutrient solution) every time. As for the systemic granules, in my experience this will get rid of gnats in as little as two days, but it is a strong pesticide that's not readily available in all states, and if you have pets or children that can mess with the soil, I would avoid.

Mealybugs are RELENTLESS - I would shower the plant and use a mix of rubbing alcohol and water to spray down the plant and wipe everything off. and do this repeatedly :P

I appreciate the gnat drops info- I’ve been using for a little bit, one watering so far and there are fewer gnats on the stickies all the time. I’m going to be consistent and conquer! 🤣@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow I wish. I had three girls. The oldest is 10 years older than her sisters. The middle is 7 years older than the youngest was. I was going to high school, elementary, and then to middle school to pick up girls. They were all in different activities so I ran seven days a week plus I worked 20 to 30 hours a week.
I do miss those days and would love to go back to them. I lost my youngest daughter to maternal sepsis almost eight years ago. She had given birth to her only child (who is healthy and doing well) and died five days later from sepsis. I really miss those days. Hectic but worth it.

Kimchi fried rice is super easy: 🫶
-sauté chopped onions in butter
-add fermented kimchi and kimchi juice
-throw in spam
-throw in rice
-drizzle some sesame oil/seeds
-garnish with green onion!
