How I Care for 100+ Houseplants | Plant Chores | Houseplant Care Routine + Tips | VLOG

- When you have over 100 houseplants plus 2 human children, it's simultaneously chaotic and rewarding.
Over the years, I learned that more is not necessarily better because this hobby can quickly become overwhelming. It may not look like it, but I downsized my plant collection considerably (and am still doing so) so that I’m only caring for the plants that (1) bring me joy and (2) can thrive in my environment.
My hope in sharing my full plant care routine is so others can glean from my mistakes and my successes and do what works best for you, your lifestyle, and your environment. Plant care is not a one-size-fits-all approach because everyone’s environment is unique.
The basics: (1) make sure you understand when to water your plants (2) provide adequate sunlight or supplement with grow lights (3) expect and treat/pre-treat for pests. After that, it’s trial and error. I still un-alive plants all the time and each time, I try to gain new knowledge that will help me improve my care for the future.
Propagating plants is extremely fun and rewarding and once you can master growing whole new plants, you can expect your collection to grow without having to buy any new plants (although buying new plants is still always fun).
What’s your favorite part about raising houseplants?
STAY TUNED FOR PART 2!

I am praying to all the plant gods that you upload once a week in 2024. You are already better than 90% of plant CZcamsrs. (No shame to those sad-slow-talkers, but I need your talent to thrive this year!)
You’re so kind! I’m doing my best to be consistent! 🫶
Amen! Amen! Amen!!
The hardest part is if they’re not all in one spot, it’s so easy to forget to water the odd one and then you feel like a horrible plant parent 😭
Exactly!
Fun tip! I used to work at a pool shop and found this out when working there, If you leave the water jug for about 24 hours, all the chlorine in the water will burn off. Your stress coat is good if you're wanting to use it instantly or sooner than 24 hours though :)
Also I LOVE your videos and personality 💕🪴🌱🌿
Yup that’s what I used to do and would get impatient because I needed to water my plants immediately 😂.
You sound exactly like myself hahahah. I have adhd and get so many hobbies and interests and then struggle to maintain them all hahahaha
Chlorine does, but not chloride, which is also generally bad
I just love watching you and listening to you and I really learn so much from you in just a short amount of time, I wish your videos were longer! But I get it, you are so very busy and I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, and your plant journey with me!! Keep wiggling around my friend and I love the idk 🤷♀️ “Stanley and Ollie “walking around stuff you do! I wish I were so agile, BTW I’m really proud of you telling those other people to turn off your channel! Shit 💩 who needs it!! The world needs more clowns to make people laugh and feel great about life in general lol I know this cuz I also love to laugh and make others laugh 🤭 keep on keeping on girl!! Thanks, Ginger
Thank you, Ginger! You are so kind for sharing ❤. This was going to originally be a much longer video but I decided to cut it into two parts otherwise it would have taken me sooo much longer to share hahaha. Glad you enjoyed it 🫶
Thanks for being you with your dancing and noises and wiggly waggly fingers, love watching you just the way you are!
I appreciate you taking the time to share that! Hahaha I shall continue wiggle waggling away! 💃🏻
Tip: Just bring your hose to the jug, not the other way round 😃
lol omg you’re so right ☠️
Ooh! A 10 min video from Michelle?! I clicked so fast 😅 btw, where is the outfit from 👀, especially the pants??? 😍
Gosh I think they’re from madewell?!
You know you’re doing well when you have haters! Thanks for sharing part of your life with us!
Didn’t you stick an air tag on that watering can? 😅
I ended up needing it for my PURSE which I ALSO MISPLACE and I figured a purse probably takes precedent over a watering can 😂😂😂
❤ the longer video! But please don’t stop doing the short videos, they are hilarious 😆 ❤
What if you got one of those plant trays/saucers on wheels and use it for your 5 gallon water bottle?
OMG THAT IS SO SMART THANK YOU
I always watch your shorts but never the long videos. I loved this so so much. I felt like I was there just watching you work and totter around with your plants. It was so so relaxing to me. I went through a long depressive episode again that lasted months this time. I lost so many plants again. I got everything cut back, cleaned and watered on the 5th of this month. I did lose so many plants though. It was upsetting to see what my mental health consequence was this time around. But I’m trying to breathe and be patient and loves the ones still holding on. Watching your video was just so peaceful to me and relaxing and brings me hope of growth and life. Thank you for taking the time, effort and dedication recording, editing and posting so we can watch your journey with your plants. This video just hit me today and I really needed it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
This made me tear up! I’m so glad it brought you some peace (although im shocked my chaotic energy and videos brought peace haha). I appreciate you taking the time to share this 🫶
I love seeing what products you use for your plants. It really helps me!
I’m glad!
LOVING THE CONSISTENT LONG FORM CONTENT!!! Amazing way to start the weekend… what a treat! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Oh my goodness your so funny! Love the longer videos, thank you!!!!!!!!!! X
Thank you so much!
I love to know all about your soil library as well.😊😊
Ah! I need to feature that. I love my library haha
Most of the soil is from Sol Soils (MICHELLE10 is a discount code): solsoils.com?sca_ref=3172733.oCeRoFRzJr
I use the houseplant mix the most and I also have their succulent and cacti mix as well as some amendments like their perlite and LECA.
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Yeah! Saw that in your shorts! Extra chunky Perlite! It's hard to find something like that in South Korea..😓 Thank you so much for the link! Hope to see your next vid! 🥰🥰
I love your videos because your life is just like mine…chaotic lol! Plant chores are always at midnight once the kids are asleep and everything else is done! 🫠
Exactly. You get me.
So so SOOOO excited you’re doing vlogs now too! Can’t get enough of your shorts so this is definitely a treat 🥰
Yay thank you!
obsessed with this video length for you!!!!
I’m so glad you like it!
Sooo good!!! Your videos are the best ! Thank you for all the great tips to help us all take the best care of our plant babies😊 Can’t wait for part 2!!
It’s dropping this weekend!
You just became my new favorite! So entertaining but very educational at the same time! Keep it up!
Thank you! 🫶
I love your long-form videos! I laughed at "Someone told me that Bird's Nest Ferns should not be watered in the middle of the 'nest'"... do they carry an umbrella in nature? too funny!
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA RIGHT!! ☂️
I LOVE LONG FORM VIDS THAT ARE ACTUALLY USEFUL AND ENTERTAINING ❤️😂
Thank you!

Thank you for your overwatering Ted Talk 🫡
LOL you’re welcome!
I love you chaotic energy 😂
Thank you 💃🏻🕺
Quality content. What a boss
Thank you hahahaha
I swear your content makes my day!!!😁😍
I’m so glad!
Your into was so chaotically energetic and I love it LOL
Hahaha thanks! 💃🏻🕺
It takes me 2 and 2 hours days to water my 150 plants.Another great video!!
Thank you!
Love all your videos and reels!! Screw the haters you do you boo!😊
Hahahaha thank you!
I love how your long forms still mimmick your shorts!
Hahaha I’m glad you enjoy them!
I don't know how you have the time. Amazing
I don’t know either. Thank you hahah 🫶
I love watching your videos 😃
Thank you for giving me some plant saving tips.
Now I really enjoy caring for indoor plants 🥳👍
That makes me so happy!
I love when you upload. You have just a wonderful personality and expertise with the plants and video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and never change! I'm currently traveling for work and don't have a home base but I can't wait to have a space to fill with plants. 😄💚
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoy it 🫶
I'm falling in love with clear pots! They're so good for seeing moisture levels, root health, if they're becoming root-bouund, etc. But also I just love the aesthetic of being able to see soil and roots 🪴
I'm also making checklists of which plants need which care specifics. Eg: water when dry, water with distilled water, refill the water tray with distilled water (my carnivores) etc. That way I won't miss any
You’re so organized I love it
Love your videos
Thank you!
Congratulations! 👏👏👏This was fun! I recognized myself in you: I also cannot just water my plants bc I always find something else that some of them need (pruning, repotting, moving, etc); and while you often lose your watering can, I always lose my moisture meter! Always!!!😂
LOL even if I had a watering can per room I’m sure I’d lose it 😅
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow guess what? I have a moisture meter for every room… 🤣
Oh! The little succulent watering tips with the leaves is so helpful! I've always been confused of how to know with a succulent, than you 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Yess! API dechlorinator is the way to go! 💪
My calatheas are happy for it!
I love your content because of all the gadgets and handy things you have! I wondered about the cloning paste for a while, very interested to see if it works out!!
I made a short on it! It’s working!
We just watched this and it felt like a shorts love your videos
Haha my long form and shorts have similar style because I’m just chaotic 🤣
I don't know why people comment complaining about things like wiggling your fingers and such. I love everyone's own uniqueness, own personalities ❤❤. I guess if these things bother someone, then don't watch?
I really love your videos!
Thank you!!
I love your longer videos! I only have one plant currently but want to have more in the (far) future, and I loved the video nonetheless
May your collection grow beautifully 🫶
I really love your video😊😊
I appreciate you!
I have officially watched every single one of your videos, which I love! Time to make more! :-) No really, they are wonderful.
Wow!!! Hahaa I’m glad you liked them. Thanks! Editing the next one now 💛
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow Not only do I learn TONS, but they are highly entertaining. Shoot I don't watch tv, but if you had a weekly show I would watch it!!
You’re so kind!
Hey, my tip is that you get one of those little wheel-ypour-big-plants-around tray on wheels for your huge water jug thingie. I think you would be twice as happy in life if you didn't have to drag it. :D
GENIUSSSSSSSSSSS
Your SO FUNNY 😂 loved this!!!!!
Hahahaha I’m glad you enjoyed 🫶
Just found your YT. Please make more videos! Your video is so fun to watch. ❤
I’m so glad you like it! I’m releasing part 2 tomorrow (Monday) 🫶
Imagine having the audacity to tell someone to stop doing a thing because it brothers THEM personally? Like who do you think you are lol 😂 I absolutely looove your videos, especially the hand wiggling and the chaos in general. It's very entertaining and your humor is just 👌 also love your plant set ups 😍✨🪴
Thank you so much! People get so bold behind their computer screens and are quick to criticize it’s wild haha.
Probably my favorite content to look forward to on YT 😍 you watered your 5 gallon next to the hose but didn’t put the gallon closer to your door so you didn’t have to carry it all the way 😂😂
Ugh I know. I’m a fool ☠️
As a wise once Kady said… “The limit does not exist!”
You go glen coco
Can you link that caky paste for growth. I can’t seem to find it. Thanks. I like the wiggly fingers. Haha
I just added it to the description! Forgot to add. Thanks!
I was keeping my plants on a weekly watering schedule, just a little bit every week, when I had my baby tear plant (I watered that much heavier) just so I wouldn't forget about anyone lol. I finally got sick of the high maintancence plant and got rid of it, now I haven't watered for like a month, I kept waiting for the tiny bit of wilt and found it on Friday, I took all my plants (I only have 6 at the moment, have room for a couple more) down from their shelves and hangers and put them in the tub for a shower and deep water.
I think they are liking this much more, its keeping them from getting too dusty in my bird room and they have some time to dry out, something two of them like to do. I was a little worried about the Pothos because I was always told they don't like to dry out but mine seemed fine and they weren't even the one that was droopy lol.
Today I'm going to trim some of the longer vines and start them rooting for a friend who is hopefully going to come visit in May.
I'll be on the lookout for my next two I can add, one needs to be ok hanging in a west facing window, the other needs to be ok with low light. Hopefully I find something good come spring!
Yes plants much prefer to dry out and be watered FULLY as opposed to bit by bit! 🫶
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrowyes they have been super happy lately! I just gave them a haircut and am rooting the pieces to give to a friend hopefully in May, she moved recently and had to leave her plants with the new owners until spring and they are not plant people, she’s so sad! I hope some of them survive cause she has some beautiful plants
I will never again say i have too many plants😂😂😂😂 my husband shall not be thrilled
Hahaha cold truths 😂
Saw your post yesterday and couldn’t wait for the video release. Gained a lot of knowledge from your videos. I have a 45 year old jade plant and I suspect it has soft root rot but soil is dry and in a premium mix I water it 2-3 weeks and in a south window. Any suggestions, even people in the comments!
The content I’ve been waiting for! Totally copying your watering jug for my plants. Do you recommend any particular grow lights for plants?
I have a ton of grow lights! There’s a section in my video description called “Growlights” with the ones I use!
You are phenomenal lol
lol 🫶
I can’t ever just water a plant either lol. I watered a burro tail I had forgotten about last night only to discover, a colony of odorous house ants had decided to move into it. Literally hundreds of them came out the drainage hole with the excess water carrying eggs and babies 😖 had to check and take every plant off the rack and start treating the room
EGGS! Omg.
The sound effects tho!😂😂😂
lol editing takes me forever
Haha how do you even sleep in the living room with those light on😆 The jug is a great idea, especially if you'd buy or make a dolly (plank with wheels) to put under it.. Saves you some pulling :) I have one for moving heavy stuff, for now I can move my bigger plants on my own but once they size up more I can just put them on the dolly if I want to move them outside in the rain for example
THAT IS GENIUS
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow 😁
I used keiki on my bare nodes on my vsoh too a few weeks ago! They did make leaves but some kinda look oddly deformed 🙃🙃🙃🙃 so I don’t know but I’ll be trying again and seeing!
So I’ve SINCE learned that you’re only supposed to apply on 1-2 nodes at a time because it takes quite a bit of energy to produce those leaves. Let me know how it goes!
Why Michelle!!! Why?? Every single video I buy something new! I need to know more about this stress coat! Is it working for you? I have highly treated tap water and almost as many plants as you do so the distilled water buying is out of hand 😂 1:39
LOL. I’ve been testing out the stress coat through several watering cycles with my most sensitive calatheas and have not gotten any crispy edges so I call that a success! I refuuuuuuuse to BUY water for plants now haha
I looooooove your videos! Finger wiggles and all 🫶🏼 fellow plant lover here but you are way ahead of me 😅 if you see this comment would you be willing to make a care video for watermelon pepperomias? I think I saw that you had one… I am STRUGGLING so hard with one right now and no matter what I do I lose. Is it just me?
Hi! I have pepperomias (not watermelon though). I wait until the soil is fully dry before watering and it’s under a grow light!
I have so many comments as I’m watching! Your kids are very lucky. We used to play with blankets and chairs to make forts lol. Your kiddos have a play house hahaha that’s so cute.
I’m only saying this because I know you’re an educator - but to “how to use keiki paste” part is spelled “hot”! Not complaining at all but I suspect you’re a little like me when it comes to grammatical errors. 😅 Thanks for showing that the keiki paste can work!
lol ong thank you for finding the error
I would love an update in the node part please 6:50
I posted one on my most recent video!
Does the pump you use have a filter built in?
It does not! It just draws the water up
Are you still using the water softener and if so what are the major differences you've seen?
I am! It’s part of my standard watering recipe. It’s not a softener but a solution that removes chlorine and choline. With it, my calatheas stopped needing distilled water and getting crispy edges. ALTHOUGH, I will say the crispy edges came back but that is because it got spider mites and I had to do multiple soaks and showers with tap water that reluctantly also watered the plants 🙈
2:20 i keep my water pump next to an outlet because its constantly needing charging
4:48 when i water i let it absorb at the bottom so it absorbs what it needs so i wont overwater
I do both! That’s what the container is for. It bottom waters simultaneously. Overwatering has to do with frequency not quantity of watering so I like this method as well.
Would you ever considerer trying a different soil, with more water retention, or semi-hidro, so that you wouldnt need to water too often?
I do have plants in semi hydro but I actually am considering moving them back to soil. I’m getting over the whole flushing LECA business. My plants actually don’t need to be watered too often. For me it’s a QUANTITY issue. I likely need to downsize my collection 🙈
Soooooo is the garden hose long enough to reach where your jug sits? If so you wouldn't have to drag it across the concrete lol. Just found your channel today and subscribing as soon as I send this.
Omg someone else mentioned that and now I feel like a doofus. HAHAHAHA thank you for the tip
@ohtheplacesyoullgrow lollll. Don't sweat it. Sometimes we just need a different perspective to see things differently. Your shorts vids are hilarious too btw.
That helped me so much.
I like the way you do some things with your watering. I just don’t know how you can have a full time job and children/home/husband…..HOW DO YOU DO IT 😳😳PS- KEEP WIGGLING YOUR HANDS😬
I don’t know how I do it. I need less plants 😂
Find them new homes, like puppies!!!!
I’m struggling with one of my plants. It WAS a pothos. 😂😂
So the water you use is the ice cold water? Am I spoiling my plants too much with tepid water?
Haha it’s not super cold where I live and I let the mixture marinate for a bit so it’s not FRESH tap lol
Apparently, your gnat drops can't be shipped to my state of Washington. Do you have any other recommendations?
Oh no! Hmmmm if you can find mosquito bits, it’s the same active ingredient. You make a “tea” with it and water plants.
Is that 4 tablespoons or teaspoons for the stress coat ?
I used whatever dosage is suggested on the bottle!
I really like your videos, I live in Italy, the products you suggest don't exist. ❤
I’m glad you enjoy them! Ahh I hear that many of the stuff I use is not as readily available elsewhere
Can you use “recharge instant compost tea,” mosquito bits, & “hasta grow?” Together in a gallon sprayer for plants???
I’ve never personally used all that together so I can’t speak on it!
@@ohtheplacesyoullgrow so I tried it. My plants are still alive. Thank you baby Jesus!
BUT I had some left in the sprayer & sprayed later…OMG…don’t ever leave anything left over. It smelled sooooooo bad. 🤣☹️💩
I am confused. Where do you buy the liquid gnat killer. I can only find links to little pieces of gnat killer. Help please if someone knows.
It’s linked in my description!
Love your videos! Wish you could come to my house and help me fix some of my plants 😅
lol thank you!
I admire how you get so much done! Please, never get a mother of thousands (Kalanchoe daigremontiana). So easy to propagate that will fire back to your need for propagation. Or will act like an intervention 😆
HAHAHHAHA noted!!!
How many times do you hit your legs with your bed frame..? I had a similar one and would always bang my legs with the corners 🤬
Ive never had that issue! Haha
Hi. Love your videos. I want to share this with everyone. Ive had plant collections on and off for for 40+ yrs. I've learned a lot in the past 5 yrs from trial/error and videos. Everyone wants someone to give them a quick fix to their current plant problem(s). People it's not that easy because they are not in your environment; please stop asking for specific advise. Read, watch, try, fail and learn. Why do you think the care guides are different depending on what you are reading/watching. Its maily trial and error. Do you not HEAR influencers saying to learn YOUR environment. I once was one of those that bought everything I saw someone using. Nope does not work like that. Probably the biggest thing i learned; i can't grow all plants (150+ collection). I give it the 2x try and then I'm done, its not for me.its a great and fun hobby. There are no short cuts, easy fixes or one size fits all for these living things that we are trying to force to live indoors in millions of different environments. Take all videos and other forms of information as a guideline and then tailor to your situation. Failures are opportunities to learn. Relax and enjoy❤ Gods beautiful wonders.
Well said! Everything I share is what works for me in my environment and it’s all about learning your plants and your environment 🙌
I've been using stress coat for about 5 months now and my plants are looking great, even my problem child, Mr. spider plant.😂
LOL if Mr. Spider approve then it’s a success for sure
I think more than thirsty they are stressed because of no watering for long.
Some for sure
+1

I give you so much credit not putting on sweats & Netflix 🪴🪴 would love a Hoya tour sometime.
Hahaha tempting to do sweats and Netflix!
I have been wondering about using stress coat for watering! I'm so tired of refilling water gallons at the grocery store. 🫠 Is the aloe in it ok to go into other plants?
I haven’t had any issues with it!
I am proud of myself; I made it through (part 1 of) the plant tour without meeting a plant I "need" to get! Is this just because I have so very many plants already? 🐐
💚🪴💚
LOL it might be! Releasing part 2 tomorrow though so jury’s still out haha
