In 1985 my wife surprised me with a CD player for my birthday. The cheapest she could find was a Technics for 300 bucks.I started selling vinyl to buy more CDs and packed my turntable away around 2001. I have given almost all the rest away to family and friends. No snaps, crackles or pops during a quiet passage. No surface noise or skipping. No expensive record cleaning gear. I love turntables and many of them are works of art and vinyl is cool for some people, but not for me. Great video Bruce and prayers for your wife. P.S. Putting an artist's entire collection on an MP3 CD is great for the car or background tunes.

The price of vinyl is grotesquely expensive now

Been collecting CDs since 2005. It’s my favorite format: compact, great sound, interesting packaging. It’s the perfect middle ground.

Also postage costs to get a vinyl from overseas sent to Australia is crazy. I inquired about buying a Magic Shoppe Shoegaze vinyl. The shipping was $72 USD and that equated to about $100 AUD. for 1 Record PLUS the cost of the vinyl!! NOPE!!

I'm older and retired, and I am surprisingly time crunched with a multitude of things that I need to do! I agree with you about the time available versus the time necessary for proper TLC required for vinyl LPs. I sold off my LPs and my turntable assembly years ago when I had to move and travel about for work. Starting over my music collection, CDs are easier to deal with, and they satisfy my desire for the tangibility of physical media. They are very much easier for me to find and purchase from an old local really good music store and also from Amazon. I have built a huge collection of CDs now and have an older superb CD player to spin them in. I have no complaints! 👍

I more like keeping music I can't get streamed on CD. My father kept all kinds of unique dixieland Jazz, and I have all sorts of stuff you just can't find on streaming. CD's add so much to my listening.

Thank you for a well done video. I think age is a huge factor. So much music and so little time. In the last couple of cars I've leased, there are USB slots and if you put music on a thumb drive (in a playlist format) , you can have an incredible amount of music on a format that doesn't depend on any moving parts. However, nostalgia sometimes overrides all other reasons and so cassettes and 8 tracks have their following. Finally, some folks just love to be able to have the format in their hands as so much of our lives seem to be floating around somewhere in the atmosphere. Thanks again.

Great video @TheBoomerConsumer and I love each of your reasons why you continue to buy CDs in this day and age.
When I got back into collecting vinyl a decade ago, it was a great monthly activity where $100 would get me lunch go to different record shops and come home with sometimes 20 records, most of the time I would get 10 to 12.
I am extremely happy to see the vinyl boom but several years ago I got back into the CD for many of the same reasons I got into vinyl:
    #1 It is cheap
#2 I don’t miss replacing needles or getting up every 20 minutes to flip a record
#3 The equipment is easy and straight forward.
#4 I don’t miss the pops and skips you would get
#5 I love the utility of CDs for the reason you mentioned the ability to rip them and put them on a USB stick to go anywhere.
I loved how you mentioned about long road trips. My wife and I do the same, and what I do in our Subaru we can play music off a USB stick, I got a 128 GB one and I fill it up with music, mostly stuff ripped from the CDs we have and the player in the Subaru has a shuffle option so we aren’t missing a thing!
Recently my turntable bit the dust, and when I looked at the cost to replacing it, it’s going to be a while. I plan on keeping my vinyl I have because one day I will replace the turntable but for now I am enjoying the CD experience and literally in the last 3 years, I have collected everything I ever wanted on CD. Now I am saving for a piece or two, and look forward to newer music to come out.
Like you said, what I experienced in this vinyl boom is I wanted to get R.E.M.’s catalog and each album on vinyl is $40 you see some in my area for $30 sometimes, I was able to get the catalog I coveted used on CD for $40 and it was 12 albums. The vinyl experience is amazing but I don’t feel $40 a pop anymore is my cup of tea

Vinyls became so stupidly expensive that CDs are a great alternative again. I prefer vinyl sound though.

If there were vinyl players in cars, I'd switch to them😁. Unless it happens,I'll be using cds. There is no better , life-proof,durable , portable , playing back without the need of internet connection and sounding great medium than a CD.

If they came up with a nicer standard for storing CDs, they'd be far more popular now. One of the biggest appeals of vinyl is having the different colours, the album art, etc. I imagine they could make better cases that aren't the standard plastic nonsense and make CDs with new processes to make them look more interesting, but there just isn't the interest anymore/yet.

like that tall boxes CDs used to have back in middle/late 80s.
