      @Lucimyr We don't actually know that. The original script for GoT season 8 episode 5 was much different than what we got. Originally, Cersei was supposed to set up wildfire batches all around the city.
      Then, as Dany attacks with Drogon, these wildfire batches would be accidentaly set off and burn the city to the ground.
      Dany was also never supposed to fly around burning civilians left and right. She was originally supposed to burn Lannister soldiers who are mixed in with civilians, but that part got retconned by D&D too.
      Not only did D&D retcon a much more logical and cohesive storyline, but they also either hid it from the entire cast or did it in the last possible moment, since Emilia Clarke mentioned being shocked by what Daenerys did and explicitly stated that she was not aware of what was happening in episode 5 WHILE SHE WAS ACTING HER SCENES.

I mean being constantly told that you're the true King of Westeros and being told lies about people secretly wishing that you're the king and all that other lies makes Viserys an oblivious fool. They knew he wasn’t playing with a full deck but they still came at him like that....I’m sure the entire kingdom knew of his issues with having kids and being paranoid AF yet you threaten the eldest son and ask for his head?
      Fire is an effective champion...I would have burned them the moment they asked for his head. They literally went to a man that was paranoid AF about the death of his family then you make his fears real in a face to face threat knowing he kills whole family’s and houses. Over a lady that didn’t even want to be with the guy and Ned knew this if no one else did he had a notion that she was not happy to be promised to Robert any longer.... she ran off with his son and he wasn’t going to kill his prime heir over some woman lol I can only imagine him sitting there going “I knew it! People want my son killed I have to protect my family my bloodline ...how dare they be so bold I can’t let them leave they will surely pursue my son with or without my help...the Starks must die” lol he had no trust left.

    As far as we know Dany could be mad too. Aerys didn't show signs of madness till his later years and Dany has become more and more bloodthirsty as the books go on.

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 Před 7 lety +295

      As far as we know, anyone in the series could be mad, or going mad. And there are lots of people in the series way more bloodthirsty than her.
      Even if you think that only Targaryens are likely to be mad (in spite of the fact that some other people in the series seem more likely to be batshit crazy, like Cersei or Euron), then you should be also speculating whether Jon Snow (Rhaegar's son) or Stannis (great-grandson of Aegon V) are/will go crazy.

    • @arawn1061
      @arawn1061 Před 7 lety +153

      FrakkinToaster Luvva here's the thing, when siblings have incest and create Offspring then their genes basically duplicate and mutate.
      Jon snows mother, lyanna, was not a targeryen and when a another person with different DNA have Offspring with the inbred then the DNA resets so that everythings fine
      stannis DNA is already alterd to much from egg through the generations
      and Euron is just a sociopath

    • @PartyPoison12
      @PartyPoison12 Před 7 lety +60

      Just because people are worse in the series does not make her actions less troubling.
      Its true that anyone in the series could be mad (and many are) but the writer has clearly stated that products of incest are at a higher risk of that, and like Aron Johansson said Stannis's DNA has altered since his grandmother's Targaryen DNA was added whereas Dany is directly from sibling incest who themselves were born of sibling incest.
      Jon (at least in the books anyway) might not be R+L=J. Also in the books Jon is currently freshly stabbed, if he is dead and brought back to life he most likely will be a different person and possibly mad as Catelyn is.

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 Před 7 lety +84

      PartyPoison12 We weren't discussing the morality of Dany's actions. The subject is whether she is going to go mad. And there is no evidence at all in the books that she's mad, going mad, or will go mad. There's just evidence that she's worrying about it - which makes it all the less likely that she will go mad. Cersei (canonically compared to the Mad King by Jaime, who knew the Mad King very well) never worries about going mad, for instance.
      " the writer has clearly stated that products of incest are at a higher risk of that,"
      Really? When did he say that?
      First off, if that were true in general, then not just Jaime and Cersei but also Ned, Lyanna, Brandon and Benjen would be as likely to go mad/have been mad, as their parents were first cousins. But that does not happen unless there is a recessive gene for a specific illness running in the family. So I guess you mean the Targaryens, under the assumption they had a 'madness gene' in the family. But the evidence does not support that. See my answer to Aron Johansson.

    • @frakkintoasterluvva7920
      @frakkintoasterluvva7920 Před 7 lety +64

      Aron Johansson No, their genes do not "duplicate and mutate", I have no idea where you got that or what you even mean by that. Siblings don't have the same DNA, unless they are identical twins, in which case they can't have a child together as they are both of the same biological sex. And genes mutating has nothing to do with whether people are related.
      What does happen is that there is a greater probability of the child getting a pair of recessive genes for a congenital disease if their parents are closely related (but only if they have that gene in the first place, of course). Which doesn't mean that it has to happen, or that it can't happen with people who aren't related.
      So, we would have to assume that there is a 'madness gene' in the Targaryen family.
      But then why was Rhaegel mad? His mother was Mariah Martell. She had no Targ blood at all. Why was Aerion Brightflame mad? His mother was a Dayne. Again, absolutely no relation to the Targs. So, 2 out of 4 or possibly 5 Targaryens that were mad (it's debatable whether Maegor was insane or just exceptionally cruel and ruthless, and in addition, his more 'mad' behavior occurred after he died and was resurrected and may have been caused by that) weren't products of incest. On the other hand, there's a bunch of Targaryens who were products of incest but who were perfectly normal, and even in some cases among the greatest monarchs that Westeros had ever had (Daeron the Good).
      So, the evidence doesn't actually offer that much support to the theory of congenital Targaryen madness caused by recessive genes/inbreeding.

    No mention of Summerhall? Arguably, Summerhall was possibly the initial root of his insanity. We don't have many details, but it's pretty clear he saw his grandfather, uncles, aunts, and a good portion of the kingsguard die brutally. Right when his first son was born too. Imagine that, if you can. Most of your family dying on the very eve where you become a father for the first time.
    Aerys shows signs of suffering from PSTD. Literally, half of his descriptions, down to the maniac mood shifts, are signs of PSTD. Surely he had genetic predisposition to madness, but between Summerhall and the Defiance of Duskendale were what broke him, turning him into the worst king to sit the Iron Throne.
    Also, it is arguable that more than just the ones you listed here were, in one way or another, mad. Madness doesn't always equal dancing naked in the halls or taking a shot of wildfire to become a dragon. Sometimes it's as simple as sleeping around constantly and bequeathing lavish gifts to random people.(here's looking at you, Aegon the Unworthy.)
    Even Aegon the Unlikely's obsession with restoring dragons, the thing that literally caused most of the Targaryens of his day to die, could be considered a form of madness.

    • @thearmada6248
      @thearmada6248 Před 6 lety +4

      I don't think he saw his family die. They were deep inside the castle and only a few people were there. Also most of the Targaryens didn't die at Summerhall, only two died and Aegon only wanted to bring back dragons since all the high lords went against his reforms and he needed something to back his power up.

      THE ARMADA
      But knowing that part of your family died like that and that you could have easily been one of them... would it not have affected you in any way?
      I agree with you about Aegon the Unlikely. If one believes him to be mad because of his desire for dragons than everyone creating anything is mad, as there is always a risk of it going south, especially if it's weaponry.
      You could make a strong case of the leaders of the USA having been mad for creating atom bombs, for example. Or the Ancient Greeks for creating Greek Fire.

    I never really thought Viserys was "mad" alot of his behavior makes perfect sense. He lost all of his family besides his younger sister and grew up having to struggle to survive in a world where powerful people wanted him dead. He was the last surviving Targaryen from a long lineage of great Kings and felt he had a destiny to restore his family's legacy. He forced his dreams and aspirations onto his sister whom he effectively had to become the parent of meanwhile being a child himself. One event that especially broke him was having to sell his last bit of jewellry which he kept in memory of his mother. He then made the tough decision to sell out Danaerys as his ticket to the throne.

Aenys probably had anxiety problems, seeing as how he struggled to make decisions for fear of offending someone. Plus, he essentially died of a panic attack (albeit maybe helped along by Visenya) when trying to deal with the Faith Militant. Then there's Aegon III, who seemed to suffer from lifelong depression after watching his mother get eaten by a dragon. His survivor's guilt of escaping from pirates on dragonback and leaving his brother to be captured couldn't have helped either.

The consequences of his actions resulted in war and the brutal deaths of his wife and children.

      Jackie Campbell Rheagar wasn't mad and he wasn't obsessed with having a third child nor did he rape Lyanna. That's only the way Robert told the story, but if you read the books and pay attention to all the storys Meera tells, you find out, that L and R were in love and both unhappy with their betrothal/marriage.
      And for John, if the nightking crosses the wall (which he will most likely do), he will be able to collect the biggest army ever, since all the dead from the previous wars are still there, all the dead Lannisters, Starks, Boltons, Tullys, Freys etc. will join one army. And also winter is there, but the Lords forgot to collect supplys and to ration it. But as the people of westeros know, a winter is always as long as the previous summer and they had the longest summer to ever be in Westeros. If nothing is done, all will starve eventually. So John is actually the only rational person to fight for the north and therefore for humanity, while all the other ones still play their little game of thrones, killing each other and therefore helping the nightking.

      Anna Avertho I absolutely agree with you about Jon, but Jackie has a point about Rhaegar. Yes, he may have been the most beloved prince his dynasty has ever seen and was at a very good person all around, but that does not negate the fact that he WAS obsessed with the prophecy of the Prince that was Promised and as a consequence made some terrible and rash decisions that, as said, effectively wiped out his family and ended their reign. I don't doubt that him and Lyanna were in love and I personally love their story, but I'm sure they could have had the third prophesied baby another way that wouldn't have involved needlessly starting a war. That's just my two cents however, feel free to disagree. It's good drama either way.

    Rhaegar Targaryen could be added to this list because of his obsession with the prophecy of ice and fire, and the Prince that is promised.
    One of the theories is that he only married Lyanna Stark because after Elia Martell gave birth to his son he found out that she had become barren, the reason for this was that he believed that to make the Targaryens great again the Dragon needed three heads. he planned to get Lyanna pregnant with a Daughter that he would later marry to his son Aegon all with his other daughter Rhaeny.

They have potentially the most interesting storyline of all, if you like the dragons, the tales of Meraxes covering whole cities with this shadow before engulfing them in flame, the dragon attack at Harrenhal (whose evidence we still see when Arya is Tywin's servant there(, and how the citizens of King's Landing came to the dragon pit and killed the dragons they found there certainly bear some chapters of their own somewhere, if only someone writes them down in another book someday.

    Daenerys has gone mad because of all the losses she suffered, remember that she had no family, everyone wanted her dead, her husband Khal Drogo died, she couldn't have children anymore because of the witch and she lost respect from the dothraki, she obtained three dragons that she treated like her children, they were kidnapped by the mages of Qarth and after that, she had lots of troubles in Meereen with the sons of the harpy, the dragons that she couldn't control anymore, she learned that Jorah had betrayed her, she lost ser barristan, later in season 8 two of her dragons died, Jorah died (and that was a big loss for her) she learned that Jon was her nephew so he didn't want to continue their relationship, Missandei, her best friend, was killed by Cersei and that's what made her destroy King's Landing.
    She wasn't born mad, it's the people of Westeros who broke her, they took everything she had so she killed them. And i forgot a lot of details.
    Anyone with a dragon and an army could've done the same thing. Fuck Jon for not trying harder to stop her and Tyrion who turned an idiot in the last seasons.

    "Everytime a new Targaryen is born the gods toss the coin in the air and the world hold its breath to see how it will land" I always wondered that Oberyn would suit this saying if the coin fell on the side and stood upright. Too bad Martin killed him off way before his time
    You could also argue that Aemond, the one who fought Daemon the rouge prince over the God's Eye, was also mad based on his actions as both a child and an adult. I think the best way to tell whether a person is mad or not is to see their action as a child like Joffery. The other "Mad" people grew into madness rather than being born with it.

    I believe we can add Dany to the list although she's more driven mad than born mad. I agree that her brother Visceris was mad, we could have actually seen more of this madness if he succeeded to become king. Plus the way he would sometimes look at Dany made me think that he would have probably married her afterwards and continued this madness tree family.

    • @howhiareu1020
      @howhiareu1020 Před 4 lety +1

      MFUNI KAKAYA DEBORAH most targs weren’t born mad neither. Even Aerys was a kinda normal guy, till he got captured and taken as hostage for about a half year at age 40. Viserys and Dany probably wouldn’t have become mad if they had grown up in a better environment also. In psychology they believe that madness is caused by genetical defects AND the enviroment you grow up to. Viserys was under the influence of targaryen propaganda most of his life, had to see his mother die & his father becoming insane, was confronted with the brutal deaths of his parents, brother, baby cousins and most of the loyalist of his family at the age of seven. Then living with his sister on the streets for long periods of time... Dany had it also very bad, never knowing a place like home, having a abuse brother no family left, being forced to marry and raped at the age of 13. Seeing your last family member (and only person you knew for more then a month), husband and son die. Then being given the highest amount of power possible, becoming a leader and queen in a year, supported by people who believe you’re a god. That even people with normal genetic would become at leats very labil at this point is no question.

    Madness is not always inborn like what the gods toss coins or something. It could be induced like what happened to Aerys, the Mad King & his son Viserys, the Beggar KIng. Aerys by his traumatic experience in Duskendale drove him mad, really mad! while Viserys actions of "madness" or folly was only because of the pressure & the gried of loosing his throne, birthright & home. It was said that Viserys was kind to Danaerys once, but stopped smiling when they have to sell everything they have, wandering the Free Cities, asking or begging for Magisters or Nobles reclaim the Seven Kingdoms.
