I was a Procurement Manager before I retired and I did costing for a living. For someone who has never done it or says not good at math, you're awesome. You did a fantastic job. I really enjoyed your video. I'm selling my resin work now and I HATE pricing. I know I sold some of my items too cheap but it takes a while to build the confidence up when you go from hobby to selling your creations. Keep up the great job. Really enjoy your videos. :)

Several years ago I started up an ice cream truck. I was given an easy formula: Figure you costs and triple that because in the food industry your costs can go up at any time and you don't want to have to up the price too soon. Or in other words there are variables. You did a great job teaching and you have a good attitude toward complaints. People don't know what our costs are and can only see that it costs more for us as individuals than for the big chain stores.

Great video. Going to show my primary school aged child this video. They have a student business fair in a couple of years and she was thinking about doing this... safely (gloves and respirator mask) and under supervision of course. It will also teach her how the world of business and life works.I've already ordered/received a bunch of molds, various items to include in the mold, keychain supplies, etc. - keeping receipts, etc. to show how the accounting all works. Showed her the various places to source at bulk, etc. Focus will be less on making money versus how profit works.

Thank you for reminding everyone to be empathic/sympathetic/ understanding about money situations. Even though I've been homeless before, it still would have hurt a lot more for someone to have told me my work is overpriced before you said that, because you're right. Back then if someone had tried to sell me a keychain for $20+ I would have bugged eyed them and walked off.

Thank you for sharing. As a fellow resin artist I never know how to price my earrings/ jewelry. I often go too low not including my time and price that the resin and material cost. I just really enjoy doing it so mostly it’s not always about the money. I just enjoy seeing people with my creation on.

I agree it’s all about the passion not the money for me too but definitely important to make sure we’re getting paid for our time, materials, etc. like I’ve said I’m the queen of underselling myself so I think it’s a great reminder to charge what we’re worth ❤️

You kept saying "I'm not good at math/ explaining" but you explained everything incredibly & with such detail. This was incredibly helpful & I think you did a fantastic job explaining it, as well as how to take a step back & realize that one's pricing comment could be coming from a place of financial vulnerability & to be mindful of it, as well as not to take offense, or come back offensively. Kudos to you on all fronts!

I just found your channel. This is an excellent video! I'm a woodworker but I always look for different pricing strategies. In woodworking two prevalent thoughts for calculating labor are: 1. length x width x height x 2 and 2. $1 per minute. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I usually figure cost of materials + $5 shop fee + $30/hour labor. If I am offering to deliver or ship, then that cost is added in, and I advertise "free shipping / delivery". When I start selling online whatever the online fees are will also be added in.

Thank you so much for your video. It is amazing you are sharing your time and experience and expertise to others who are starting out. I think 23.00 is a fair amount for a custom piece even if it is small. You didn't even include the materials for the thank card, or the packaging materials in with the shipping cost. A suggestion: If anyone complains then charge them shipping and lower your cost of the piece. It all works out the same but some may feel they are getting a better deal. This is how other small business do it. Of course you can't please everyone there is always someone not happy.
All your info is very helpful love the video even if I am a year late still helps.

If you want to figure out how much resin a keychain uses, you can weigh it after it is cured and divide the weight into the weight of your resin bottles. I would think you would charge the same amount for each letter. Since some letters use more resin, you may want to do a bunch, weigh them all together, then divide by the number of letters on the scale. Take that number and divide into the weight of your total resin weight in your bottles, then use that number to divide into your total price for your bottles of resin. That should give you the average price of the resin you use for each keychain. I hope you followed that- just do it step by step. 😊

This might be a little different but I live in the United States and it’s a bit different where I live every package less than a pound is that two dollars and anything is a bit more than that it’s seven dollars about like over a pound at seven dollars and then as the item is a package get progressively heavier that price increases by 10¢-15¢

I believe you were very informative ! im new at this but i enjoy making things . If you had a regular job how much would you be making , and how much is to much ? i think if it dont sell its either to expensive or just not a good product and on the other hand if your selling butt loads to just a few people then its to cheap ! Its got to balance out , i make leather keychains and acrylic keychains
along with wood and acrylic book marks , wood signs and metal jewelry and i find the cheapest person in the world and ask how much would they pay for it , then double it !

To measure how much resin just fill your mold with water and measure how much water you put in the mold. That lets you know how much resin it takes. I will say I used 2 oz of A and 2 oz of B so 4 oz of resin and did a whole alphabet and just a little bit extra left maybe enough to do one or two more letters

Thank you for this video! I started making 3D glow in the dark pole dance boot keychains and I’ve been struggling with pricing. I priced everything out like you did but I also looked at Etsy and someone sells 2D boots and sells them at $26 per (free shipping). I priced mine at $24.50 with free shipping in the U.S. but maybe that’s too high for people. I think it’s fair because the boots are made in house. They are sculpted out of clay, molded, and then resin copies are made. 🤷‍♀️ not sure if you have any advice about it. 😩

I'm new to your channel, and also I'm a beginning resin "dabbler". It's only a hobby !!! Shoot, just getting started for a hobby I have no idea how much I've spent so far. I finally purchased resins. I could've fallen over when I saw the prices of resin ! Regular or UV.
Geez, when I saw how much you allowed for your time, I almost saw red !! (So low ? Shucks.) I know many ppl don't like the prices, but resin is expensive in itself ! And you put in your time for each one and should be paid enough that you can earn a living. I thought your time should been worth at least $10 up ! Sigh...
Question please: Do you not use UV resin ? I didn't think I saw any in your breakdown ?
Also, do you feel any need to use a mask or gloves ?? Don't tell me now I need a mask that looks like you can walk thru a burning building ??? 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

@@JustCallMeMeghan I think you can use Chit Chats in the USA but I am not 100% sure, and if so I do not know the difference in the prices since the USA seems to have way better prices than Canada. I can send a tracked package to California from Ontario and that costs about $6.50 ($5.25 USD), while shipping to British Columbia which is at the other end of the Canada is around $10 ($8 USD) and that is with Chit Chats. If i were to go with Canada post it is about $20 ($16 USD).
