- This is one of the last interview Heath Ledger gave to the media after promotion of the movie "I'm not there" in Venice, "Mostra Film Festival", September 2007.
TV reporter, Antonia Mandic, has been warned by Heath's agents, so as other journalists, that any question about his private life is forbidden.
It's easy to notice that Heath was not well. That's the time when he was working on the last movie "The Dark Knight".
Also, as it was announced in the media few days before this interview, his partner Ms. Williams left their home and took their daughter Matilda Rose with her.
With all that in mind it's no wonder that was a very brief interview, also edited and shortened by TV production.
I did translate the journalist's comment and made it as short as possible. Yet, nothing important missing.
This is just one more tribute to the talented young actor, who lived on the fast track and accomplished so much in his young age, what most other people only dream about.

This is probably one of the very extremely rare occasions in which Heath Ledger ever really showed vulnerability in front of a camera. He looks almost ready to cry. He looks really like an exhausted man who is sorely in need of a long rest. ...But, hey, 28 years is way too early to fall asleep forever. We miss you.

What is upsetting is he was about to cry at 30 seconds because at the time him and Michelle broke off their engagement and she took their kid and he hadn’t seen his daughter in months, his daughter wasn’t even with him on Christmas because of Michelle and then Jan of 2008 he passes away.
It's so hard to be able to still watch him talk, and see his movies and see his interviews.
It's like he's still here and then you remember that he isn't.
It's so heartbreaking.
He had troubles sleeping and insomnia. That's that. He would sleep for on average 2 h per night and not more because, as he said, his mind was racing in the very last months of his life. He died because of the wrong combination of sleep medicines and antibiotics.
*Careful with his words, inspired by pursuing to better his talents, not so afraid to fail; just always willing to grow into a better being. It's a real shame that he's gone! I continue to learn so much from Heath, I wish he were still around. That world is just never the same!*

I think this is the most comfortable I've ever seen him in an interview -
I happened to be standing next to Heath at the bar at the Met Hotel in London in Dec 2004. I remember hearing him telling a friend that he was having terrible trouble sleeping and had been awake for nearly 3 days. He took drugs, sure, but its now known that he was battling primary insomnia for much of his later life. insomnia results in prefrontal glucose depletion reducing impulse control, leading to more drug abuse and hence in some cases more insomnia in a self perpetuating vicious spiral.
I can't believe this is the Joker...
He was fidgety because he was tired as all hell and had just broken up with Michelle, and hated the whole media circus. I admire him for trudging on and still going ahead with the interviews. As a chronic insomnia sufferer myself I totally know how he felt which makes me admire him even more for doing such wonderful work and playing the whole publicity machine. RIP Heath.
Guys, I love him and miss him too, but would heath really want us mourning
over him? I think he may want us to be happy. Remember he died doing
something he wanted to do. Acting. Yes I REALLY miss him, but heath
wouldn't want this. So just smile and know that he would be proud of you.

Heath was chronically overworked, exhausted, he had also private problems and after all he was taking medicines to fight with insomnia. I believe The Joker was just one role too many for him.

It was early in the morning and they both were tired so reporter wanted to make just a little morning chat and not the cold interview. No doubt he was nervous but as reporter said she was suprised to talk to such a kind person.

Great job by the interviewer.Heath absorbs the essence of the interviewer in my mind and out comes a reflection of how authentic he feels that person is.It shows in every interview I have watched of him. Heath comfort level is transparent - when he senses the interviewer's authenticity, honesty and thoughtfulness - he loses some of his discomfort and nervousness that crops up with an interviewer that doesn't provide that grounding or platform to express.

He HATES interviews lately. And it seemed that he didn't want to be apart of the industry today. I agree, it's mind braking and for a role of the Joker... was such a challenging role that he pushed himself to try different compared to other roles he had. It's another thing to admire him about.

Dylan's music is the background of the TV interview not a part of the video per se. As they were talking about the biographic musical film "I'm not there" Dylan's songs fit into this video like the silk gloves, especially "Knocking on the Heaven's door". So nothing is ruined here! cheers

I remember coming across this video at the back end of 2008, it was one that inspired me along many other Heath fanmade videos and tributes,memories, to make my channel a Heath Ledger Tribute, now I recall there was much more to this interview about 4-5mins that is not there, of course looking through my collection it has been taken off my channel, not sure if it was because of copywrite or YT, I don't know? Heath got Michelle the small part in this movie 'I'm not there; where she is Coco.....

They did chat about last night. Reporter said that he can drink his tea and she will try to stay awake (sort of joke). Heath asked her if she has been out late last night and she answered that little voice was telling her go home, go to bed, so Heath did agree as he got that same voice.

It's all part of the movie business, it should be a privilege to talk and present yourself and the movie. Nobody will make the interview with the anonymous person. As about this interview, reporter was very kind to Heath and he was not under pressure to talk about anything that he wouldn't like. Look other interviews where journalist were squeezing him like a lemon not even let him talk.

@ifthereareangels I know, it was a misunderstanding she thought I was saying Heath was on drugs and I really meant prescription drugs but she refused to acknowledge that and it made me mad. I've learned not to give trolls like that attention anymore.
