  • Japan is COMPLETELY different in vibe from anything we've played before. We are isolationists (at least to start!) and must build a complete industry chain from scratch. Do we open our borders? Do we open other people's borders... by force? Let's find out!

    You can export steel while waiting for steel frame building so that the price goes up, and you employ more. When your internal price goes up you just won't trade as much and can cancel the routes.

    I vaguely remember when Potato McWhiskey did his series on Vicky 3 Japan, it was all about producing paper and sulfur to feed universities and government administration to break the power of the shoguns and monks, which enabled rapid law changes. After that it was all telephones, radios, and engines. The pre-WWII history of Japan in a nutshell.

    Grand episode Quill! However, may be you could form a government? I believe it was dismantled after your transformation into the Empire from the Shogunate.

    For the love of zeus, quill. Please play on speed 4 so you stop missing half the things, and read the tooltips that tell you what something will do.

      Yeah he even called out that an election was coming and then the free reform blew past because he was focusing on another menu at the time.

      He has to prioritize making a compelling experience *for the viewer* over good gameplay; I do find it frustrating to watch too, but compared to livestream games where he plays slower and fills the time with chat shoutouts it's great.

      @@robertbarber5580 In his defense, the way the voting came out, there was no way he would have been able to form any government other than the one he had. But still, I would like to see him take the time to slow down and check.

    Can someone explain how he is able to just use the investment pool? I got the game the other day, and the only way the investment pool seems to be used for me is private investment. How is it that he's in control of how that money is used?

    • @ThomasDega
      @ThomasDega Před 23 dny +5

      There is an option to disable the investment pool under game options. This has to be done before you begin a new game. The option was mostly available so players could use that if the current patch is buggy and the investment pool is behaving poorly, which hasn't been the case for a while. In fact, the investment pool is one of Victoria's best and most distinctive features so I don't know why he decided to turn it off.

    • @Nazrega
      @Nazrega Před 23 dny

      @@ThomasDega So he decided to turn off private construction? What are the benefits of private construction? Because in general I would want to turn it off as well, since I would like greater control of my economy and what I am building. Is it actually better to leave it on and just not build all the time? My income keeps tanking from construction costs, and it feels like I can't avoid defaulting.

    • @ThomasDega
      @ThomasDega Před 22 dny +5

      @@Nazrega Do you want to play a game with realistic political systems and capitalism or do you want everything central planned by one individual (YOU)? You cant pretend you run a lesse-faire economy and then demand that only buildings that you alone command will be built.
      Also private construction makes it easier to keep your economy balanced. For example I will rarely ever build an agricultural building, but the investment pool will build enough farms and plantations to keep the prices of these goods reasonable and prevent shortages. No investment pool means having to micro manage everything yourself, something that experienced players will do better at than new players. However, most experienced players would rather not worry micro managing and leave to the investment pool.
