  • Japan is COMPLETELY different in vibe from anything we've played before. We are isolationists (at least to start!) and must build a complete industry chain from scratch. Do we open our borders? Do we open other people's borders... by force? Let's find out!

The Shinto/Buddhist divide in Japan is actually pretty interesting in real life. The common saying to describe religion in Japan is "You are born Shinto, but die a Buddhist." This is because all of the life rituals the Japanese follow are based on Shintoism, but all of the death rituals are based on Buddhism. During the Meiji Era, the emperor actually banned Buddhism and enforced strict Shintoism as a form of imperial control (the Emperor is believed to be a literal God in Shintoism). However, after the Americans invaded in 1945, they forced Japan to adopt freedom of religion. This almost immediately reversed 50+ years of religious restrictions as the Japanese immediately went back to Shinto-Buddhism. Or at least in public, Shinto-Buddhism likely never stopped being practiced, just taken out of the public eye.

Since the Shogunate isn't in government anymore you can exile the Agitator for State Religion.

I bet some industries would be profitable in Hokkaido if Quill built the Iron and Sulfur mines that can be built there.

I don't have the time or attention, to just sit and watch this game. But I do enjoy checking to see how you're bringing it along with each episode 😂 I just spread through - great job though 💙

man i tried to do a japan game and i got my ass kicked, and i think it bugged out. It said i had 100% colonized Sakhailin (the northern most island above Hokkaido). but only 75% of is actually colonized and it wont let me settle or fight for the rest ^.^ also learned i expand way to fast

I've had the colonization bug, you have to quit the game and re-open it and then it will let you target Sakhailin again for colonization.

As MTGeomancer said, it's a known bug with a simple solution (by which I found it by google searching when the same issue happened to me) of 'Save game, exit to menu, load save and now you can finish the colonisation'. So not that annoying really, especially because it has the 'colonisation finished' pop up occur allowing you to know the bug is actually there.
As for the expansion... Might be a different form but yeah, same thing happened to me in my game. I expanded my construction sector to the 'proper size' and did so completely forgetting that I already had Iron-Framed unlocked, just unable to be active. So when I swapped over to that because my iron mines were finally large enough to support them...
Well, surely my next game isn't going to have Japan bankrupt within 15 years...
