    Test drove the 2021 OB Touring XT last Saturday. Absolutely loved it. One of the key selling points for me that you didn’t mention (unless I missed it) was the sound deadening glass. The car was dead silent even on a noisy road. I test drove the Ascent on the same road and it was horrid, like sitting next to an engine on a plane. Also, my wife that will quickly mention if I even slightly exceed the posted limit had no idea we were moving as fast as we were. Ended up buying one a day later.

    As a station wagon fan, I love the Outback, but have to disagree on the Java Brown leather. I much prefer fabric seats for starters, but am a bit baffled that Subaru only offers this single color upholstery on their top model, yet in the next one down you have a choice of three depending on external body-color and Java Brown is not one of them.

      @ernstgoldman3634 Před 3 lety +1

      java brown is deal-breaker for me. And as it flows from seats to the dashboard it feels even tackier.

      All the cars with perforated leather feel the same to me, hard and sterile. To me, the Java leather felt like sitting on a comfortable couch.

    The new XTs look nice but we don't have them in New Zealand yet. I just in May 2020 bought a 2008 (!! Not 2018 ... 2008) Outback 2.5XT EYESIGHT with 54000 miles for US$6200. No Apple Carplay or bluetooth integration, but it's got 265 HP through a conventional 5 speed auto (with paddles) with SI/S/S# modes, adaptive cruise control / lane departure warning / pre-collision warning / lead car start warning. The best I've had on a trip cruising at 70 mph is 28.3 mpg (US) which is not as good as the current CVT cars. But that'll do pig, that'll do. For a few years at least.

    Really like your review, a lot of good info. Drove blue Touring and we are likely to get it. We don’t drive much open road anymore, grey hair, so likely stick with standard 2.5L motor. Nothing exciting, is what I describe as "adequate" acceleration. When Outback is 10 years old, no ~10,000 rpm spinning compressor to go wrong big $$... eeke out ~3 more mpgs with base motor as well. Thanks again for good review of features. We also do like that contrasting Java leather inside. Looks good with a medium-dark blue paint.

    I love my non-turbo 2021 Outback limited. I considered the turbo but figured I'd keep it to the simple, reliable boxer 2.5. Such a great car. Best tech (using Apple car play) as well.

    Went to test drive a XT Touring today in the same magnetite grey with those beautiful brown nappa leather seats. Lots of room, nice steering wheel, plush comfortable seats, great features/tech and from the perspective of a BMW and Porsche owner, a high-quality interior. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed during the test drive. The CVT transmission just absolutely killed it for me. Zero feedback, no feeling what so ever. Kept pressing the pedal down further and further and further until I started feeling any acceleration. Later found out that the sensation was what others were calling "rubber-banding". For what it's worth, it handles great but the power delivery was a deal breaker. So sad!

      The XT is a pretty peppy engine. It won’t rearrange your face or anything like that, but it has some decent grunt. It’s different enough from the base engine that most reviewers say it’s worth the money.

    I do not care for auto start-stop, however, will likely get in habit of turning it off at control center. I read maybe there is a half-secret way to override that permanently with software setting. Will see. And our 2015 Outback has gas struts for engine hood, cannot really believe they returned to cheap prop rod. Cheap cheap cheap.

      @@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville the large screen is very slow to response. Sometimes when you turn on the car and turn down the volume because it’s too loud, it can take up to 10-15 seconds to turn down after turning the volume knob. Some days the car will consistently disconnect from your phone with the message “Apple CarPlay unavailable.” I have used four different phones and three different phone cables to try and resolve the issue. Two were apple branded and the other was off brand.
      Let’s say you have a bike laying in the back of the car and it barely keeps the gate from closing so you move the obstruction and close the gate. The car will beep three times every five or so seconds while the car is on. It will not stop until you disconnect the battery and touch the leads together to deplete the energy in the car. Next time you test the car I urge you to use a jacket to mock the obstruction and test it out. Just make sure you have a set of wrenches with you. I also experienced this problem when hand washing the car at the rear. My arm waved by the Subaru emblem which caused it to open and the slight pressure from my arm pushing on the tailgate caused it to malfunction.
