Since you asked. Yes. Yes them people on hot air balloon are armins parents. Armin talked about his parents getting caught tryna escape using a flying device if I remember correctly.
That’s why Armin told Annie in S1 that he doesn’t believe in “a good person” because to his squad he is a good person but to the family/friends of the woman he killed he is a bad person. And she was doing what she thought was right. Perspective. And everyone feels like they have no choice, that they had to do what they had to do in order to survive.

When Sannes was talking about the people the Interor MPs silenced, in the manga another such person was mentioned that was left out in the anime adaptation -- a man who managed to invent a _revolver pistol,_ so the Interior Military Police eliminated him. Note that there are no revolvers here inside the walls and guns usually have frontal loading.
About The merchant from season one. I believe in season one when he was trying to get a wagon through the gates the wagon was full of food. He mentions that the soldiers should help him if they want to eat. While I think he had the wrong priority, I do think he cared. He knew that with the wall breached there would be a food shortage coming and he knew he needed to secure whatever food he could to keep his people alive. So, well meaning but blinded by his own priorities and not seeing the situation he was immediately facing

16:56 I think you very slightly misinterpreted Armin's question here. He wasn't asking why Jean didn't kill her first, he was asking why she hadn't shot Jean yet. Both her and Jean both hesitated. She likely hesitated because Jean had just spared her. Notice the change in her facial expression when she knocks the sword out of Jean's hand compared to when she's pointing the gun at him.

In fact, if we exclude the fact that the wall was breached 5 years ago and recently, then for 100 years there was no threat of Titans, only for those who went outside the walls. And the territory inside the walls is large, about the area of France, and it's like living inside your own country. Yes, it is not possible to travel anywhere, but some people still live happily all their lives without ever leaving their hometown, let alone the whole country.

Yep, definitely the first time Levi’s last name was revealed in the series. Re: Ackermann attached to Mikasa, I think most people figured out in season 1 that Mikasa was not Eren’s sister when they heard her last name for the first time. And also garrison Ian who said that Mikasa was worth 100 soldiers just called Mikasa “ackermann” and not by her first name.

No one can ever be completely wrong or completely right, just people with different justifications, some that hold better under scrutiny, and some that don't hold up at all, but to most people their actions make sense and are justified at the time.
Also, most think that under dire circumstances we won't hesitate to take a life, specially if it means protecting those you love and are completely sure you'd even die for them, but no one knows how we would react under that amount of stress, most of us would probably just get paralyzed from the shock, and most of the remaining would still hesitate, perhaps with the intent of doing it, but perhaps just enough for the other person to act first.
As soon as I saw the scene of Armin shooting to save his companion I mentally drew a parallel with episode 6 of solo leveling; which, despite both situations being quite similar, shows the difference in the form of logical reasoning and emotional intelligence of Jin Woo and Armin.

18:49 You're right. Mikasa has always been the protector figure of the trio and she's been sheltering Armin up to this point. She's seen him buckle under the pressure and Levi stepping in to bluntly wake Armin up, it's understandable that she would like to ease it slowly for him.
If I'm not mistaken you already know about how Mikasa and Levi are connected from the start of the show. This was actually the first instance it was revealed.

Levi's surname is Ackerman.
MIkasa's surname is Ackerman
Its not unintended. That is the reason why the regular titans eat people.
