George Harrison loved Carl so much that he attended and sang at his funeral when he wasn't well himself. That speaks volumes. What a humble, kind man he was. I got to meet him once in the 80's when he was touring with his sons. Gentle, appreciative and seemed truly at peace with himself and was thrilled to be playing with his sons. They'll never be another like him. Rockabilly heaven got a true gift when he arrived.

I first heard Carl’s music playing on a juke box in a Butlins Holiday Camp in 1956, it was ‘Honey Don’t’ and since that magical day, I’ve never stopped listening to those classic Sun recordings. 62 years later I still marvel at the sound he and his band made back then. I've loved his music for years but didn't know a great deal about him, other than the car accident, I'm ashamed to say. It takes real strength to admit your weaknesses and to be able to turn a bad situation around. In all, he seems like he was a genuinely sensitive, giving, well-rounded person - a real southern gentleman. More people should strive to be like him.
Way back when l was a teen.. Carl Perkins and the other Sun performers were current. A band in my home town had a dance hall in a tourist area and played Sun hits nearly exclusively. My girl friend and l would go there every weekend in the summer and dance for hours ! When we danced round and round to songs like Honey Don't it felt as is our feet wrere 6 inches off the floor and never touched ground while the music was playing ! Wonderful memories ... Thank You Carl !!!

Man , Carl Perkins, I spent some time with man, with Scotty MOORE , & my Sister that was Scotty Secretary . I helped Scotty carry his guitars ,& the Ray Butts # 63 amplifier, quite a few times. My niece took care of SCOTTY & my Sister for a few years of their final years . I did spend some multiple hours with Scott at his home , with my niece , a couple of weeks, before Scott passed. SCOTTY was one of nicest, " down to earth " Friends that I have had in my life!!
Hearing them talk about Carl. It put a lump in my throat. Thinking how much I loved my dad. Who was my hero & best friend, that never gave up fighting family court, until he got full custody. Rescuing me from an abusive life I'd hid from him for over 14yrs. I lost dad way too soon and have never got over it, but I'm glad he got to see & hear me play guitar and sing before he passed. A short 8mo's after being diagnosed with stage 3, pulmonary carcinoma, that metastasized to the brain. He never got to see me do a live performance, but I'll always have that memory of playing some of his favorite songs to him, and the smile on his face. In that tiny motel room in Van Horn TX. I wish that I had paid more attention to this artist back in the 'day'....I knew the name, and knew that he'd written 'Blue Suede Shoes' along with some tunes that the Beatles covered. I happened to hear 'Boppin' The Blues' on a local radio station just a few weeks ago and it totally knocked me out! It was only then that I started to research the name Carl Perkins more. Now I'm just absolutely astounded by the talent he had. I was also touched by his soft nature and humility and modesty.

His second biggest hit as a songwriter was _Daddy Sang Bass_ (#1 on the Country Chart) which he wrote for Johnny Cash. Perkins wrote hundreds of great songs, but none were the massive, global, culturally significant hit that _Blue Suede Shoes_ was and is. Even Elvis struggled to top Carl's version... it took Elvis 58 years to sell as many copies of his version that Carl sold in six months.
Carl Perkins was greatly talented. Thank God we got to experience his rockabilly music and great songwriting. My favorite Beatle, George Harrison loved him and sang a song at his funeral. George was very sick from cancer at the time, but he loved his friend enough to do a tribute of True Love. He had a beautiful wife. Rest In Peace Carl. You are my king. As a kid in the 50's I can remember my brother had Carl's Blue Suede Shoes' record which I really dug. Not knowing what happened to him I wondered why he fell off the scene because he was obviously really good. I was more into R & B but now having learned to appreciate many different types of music I can appreciate his contribution. I was very touched by this documentary and his sincerity. My God rest his soul.Amen.

This is a great tribute and Carl speaks so humbly I was in tears at times. He had a great love for not just music but the people that needed it in their hard lives as a release. Its great to see Lee Rocker and Setzer make reflections because it was Setzer who turned me on to Carl Perkins as an influence for the Stray Cats. I listen to Carl's music more than most other Rockabilly now.

I saw Carl Perkins in Salinas California with Johnny Cash at the Hartnell theater. He was an excellent performer and blue suede shoes. I was 13 years old and the kids got to sit in the floor in front of the band stand.

Wow! I was surprised to hear him mention Amory, Mississippi. I lived there for several years and I didn't know that it was the last time Carl and Elvis performed at a concert together. Awesome documentary! A true legend that will never be forgotten! OBTW, Amory, Mississippi is the home of the last original Fox TV series, American Idol, Trent Harmon.

Even though I am a non believer it doesn't in any way dim my respect, and love, for the great Carl Perkins. He is what it means to be a decent human being, with love and respect for his fellow humans. To be great, and humble at the same time, must be one of the most difficult things for a famous person to do. And this may just be Carl's greatest achievement of all.
I was curious as to how Carl became such an amazing man and artist. This documentary had me in tears. What he gave to the world was much more than music, he gave it LOVE. His children and grandchildren must be so so proud. I know I would be 💟
Carl Perkins was a cousin to my Grandmother’s side , she being my dad’s mother . My grandmother had a natural ear to play just about any instrument . I don’t know any instrument that she couldn’t play and she had a voice of an Angel . She’s gone now too .

I met the son of Bob Neal, the Disc Jockey that played the bran new record of Elvis. The time Carl heard that radio station he was inspired to move on to Memphis . That's awesome. Actually Bob Neal's son got to meet Elvis and they went to a Cotton Carnival Festival together when he was just a youngin. Elvis played one carnival game and won the boy a teddy bear!...
Such a shame that Carl got in that car accident right before he was going to get his big break. With all the things Carl had to go thru he never lost his humility and his careing heart.
@@nugnorab5257 He died in the late 90's. At the time I lived about 60 miles North of Jackson Tennessee. At the time of his death I reflected upon both him and Elvis. I thought maybe Carl got the better deal, he didn't get the fame or fortune but he did make quite an impact on his community and was well respected in both his community and the music business.

His openness in talking about addiction that he struggles with. I did not know all the early R&R musicians that admired him either.

Wow what a guy!! Such a humble man and a legend in his own lifetime and a man who has had so much pain but came back dancing in his blue suede shoes and he wrote some fantastic songs!!! What a guy!!
Man, what a great interview. This man is genuine and humble. Almost, I say almost, almost, almost had me in tears a couple times, lol. Seriously, Carl Perkins is well known and well loved and respected but he still is underrated and under appreciated. His life would make a great movie and it would be true. I've always appreciated his music and such but now I really appreciate his life.

I saw Carl Perkins in Salinas California with Johnny Cash at the Hartnell theater. He was an excellent performer and blue suede shoes. I was 13 years old and the kids got to sit in the floor in front of the band stand.
What a cool guy. I never knew much about him before, but I'm a big fan, now.

Wow! I was surprised to hear him mention Amory, Mississippi. I lived there for several years and I didn't know that it was the last time Carl and Elvis performed at a concert together. Awesome documentary! A true legend that will never be forgotten! OBTW, Amory, Mississippi is the home of the last original Fox TV series, American Idol, Trent Harmon.
This is a really good documentary on Carl Perkins.
I never knew all that much about Carlother than I knew he did the tune "Blue Suede Shoes" back in the day. Now that I have learned so very much more of him, my admiration and respect for him has grown a great deal...

Even though I am a non believer it doesn't in any way dim my respect, and love, for the great Carl Perkins. He is what it means to be a decent human being, with love and respect for his fellow humans. To be great, and humble at the same time, must be one of the most difficult things for a famous person to do. And this may just be Carl's greatest achievement of all.
Such humility, very humbling.
Carl was such a genuine man, and good family man. He had a heart of gold and was just a good person all around.

I was curious as to how Carl became such an amazing man and artist. This documentary had me in tears. What he gave to the world was much more than music, he gave it LOVE. His children and grandchildren must be so so proud. I know I would be 💟
Wow... apart from his musical abilities, which were under appreciated for so long, the world lost a truly human man in 1998.
Carl Perkins was a cousin to my Grandmother’s side , she being my dad’s mother . My grandmother had a natural ear to play just about any instrument . I don’t know any instrument that she couldn’t play and she had a voice of an Angel . She’s gone now too .

At first I felt sorry for the bad breaks that his life gave him. By the end of this documentary, I realized that out of all of his contemporaries, he ended up being the most Blessed. Rest with the Lord, Carl...

I am learning more about the history of music an came across this an love it Carl has a neat personality and the way he looked at life. George Harrison , Elvis and many more seemed to learn alot from Carl.
He was ahead of his time and the Lady in that time was Wanda Jackson. If you catch her Town Hall Party she’s dynamite.
I met the son of Bob Neal, the Disc Jockey that played the bran new record of Elvis. The time Carl heard that radio station he was inspired to move on to Memphis . That's awesome. Actually Bob Neal's son got to meet Elvis and they went to a Cotton Carnival Festival together when he was just a youngin. Elvis played one carnival game and won the boy a teddy bear!...

Such a shame that Carl got in that car accident right before he was going to get his big break. With all the things Carl had to go thru he never lost his humility and his careing heart.

@@nugnorab5257 He died in the late 90's. At the time I lived about 60 miles North of Jackson Tennessee. At the time of his death I reflected upon both him and Elvis. I thought maybe Carl got the better deal, he didn't get the fame or fortune but he did make quite an impact on his community and was well respected in both his community and the music business.
Thank you Carl for showing the people of the world who are searching, what truly we should all be doing in our lives, which is to "not step on anyone today"...I love that and honestly I'm about to write a song with that in mind😃

Wow. What a wonderful human being. I did not know really anything about Carl Perkins till I found this documentary. He had that bad luck bad accident, but continued to find a way to play his music. His openness in talking about addiction that he struggles with. I did not know all the early R&R musicians that admired him either.
What a kind man Carl was I really enjoyed this not to mention one Hell of a guitar player always underrated
Carl Perkins and Scotty Moore basically invented rockabilly guitar. Two legends
And Chuck Berry. Lots of country style in Chuck's playing too. Despite what some claim, it wasn't blues guitarists inventing rock and roll.
Don't forget Cliff Gallup and Grady Martin.

What a sweet humble man. I didn't know he was from around West Tennessee. We would have rode by his parents home in Jackson when we were there. I loved his description of success.
watching this with the knowledge that he died soon after makes it so much more difficult. He seemed to be at such peace and happy with himself and his life. What an amazing man. He is very much missed 🕊️🎸

i'm 49 and Carl Perkin's dance album was a revelation! i'm still remember the morning when i buy it in a record store that is still here in Genova - Italy where i lived, was the soundtrack of my teenage with Jerry Lee Lewis Chuck Berry! Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent! when the most of my friends listen to the '80's disco dance..... i'm sure: i was right!!!! -:)))

I was one of the teenagers who brought the 45 Blue Suede Shoes and Honey Don't with my lunch money. Played the jukebox at the beach house for 5 cents, & danced till dusk, when kids had to be home after & afternoon of swimming and dancing. Thanks for the post 🌼🌷🐞

Mr. Perkins you are no way dog ugly you were actually a piece of gold inside and out I grew up with your music and it shaped my life and so many ways, and although the IRS may have a few things to say bad about me I turned out good. See you shortly.
Truly the most underated musician and song writer of the ROCK Era.
The king of rockabilly mr Perkins , turned out to be the full package. A good decent man who was loved by his children. You can’t really top that in my opinion.
Now there is a lesson in HUMBLE !!! RIP Carl !!! God Love Yah !!!!
